Yeah so true. It was light, but still made contact. If you can still be reported for attempted striking (can you?...I don't know, but it used to be the case) then a closed fist contact is worse than that and worse than a slap

Not sure of the detail, but I think it's around the fact that people do not have a copyright over their own image, i.e. you can take a picture and e.g. publish it on social media, they can't stop you, but they do have a right to not have their image associated with a marketing / $ making message without their permission.

It might be arguable that they have a case, but IMO it's an odd thing to sue over. You go from being remembered for an iconic image, to being remembered for suing over it.

I do recall a manager ( maybe Jess) setting up a Top 10 about 30 years ago and wanting the AFL to pay a licence fee for any images used in promoting the game of those Top 10

You mention social media - but those are mostly private people - shouldnt the 1st port of call be NewsCorp as (Ray Titus assumed) took the picture for marketable gain as opposed to Joe over the fence with his Sony digital camera . (which makes me think of Shaun Smiths mark)

Like you I can see the merits of the case but not the loss of goodwill etc that will stem from it

However I am surprised Troy has agreed to go down this path - very disappointed in him.

Don't pay him a cent and take what was a wonderful image off everything. Pretty sad his legacy has been reduced to this.
