anyone else get the feeling that Dawson won’t get an All Australian selection?

I reckon he’s an easy one for the selectors to miss so they can put in one of their favorites
Didn’t even make the squad last year so I wouldn’t put anything past that selection committee

He’s the only one of our mids that gets a tag now unfortunately, we need speedier players around him so he can shine to his absolute fullest. Our selection committee has not been kind to him post bye

North Melbourne have won a flag more recently than us

Melbourne is the club that shits me.

Poor Melbourne we’re so bad under Neeld, record losses, etc etc. AFL give them draft picks and advantages, including paying for Roos, and now they’re a ‘powerhouse’ and could win their second flag in 3 years.

We might get that sort of leg up in around 2050-2060 if we're perennial cellar dwellers and a laughing stock too

Don't forget that the VFL blocked the secondary deal that could have helped us get Crouch through to a pick 2 compo. The exact same type of deal that had been done before and will be done again this year.
They really do love to hate us.
They seriously never miss a chance to **** us over. Is it any wonder we’re approaching longest premiership drought?

On a separate but related note - Did anyone else notice that this season once we became a possible premiership threat, we copped significantly biased umpiring against us that we hadn’t seen for any of the years that we we down the bottom? Coincidence?

This made me wonder what, if any, is the home ground (or home state) advantage. My hypothesis being that these differentials are influenced by the "interstate travel" factor.

So I've run the numbers.

46 Qualifying Finals.

20 of them in a neutral state (I have included Melb v Bris at AO in 2021).
14, or 70%, were won by the higher-ranked team.
6, or 30%, were won by the lower-ranked team.

26 of them in a state where one team was travelling from interstate. Of those:
18, or 69%, were won by the home (higher-ranked) team.
8, or 31%, were won by the away (lower-ranked) team.

So there's no difference between "neutral" games and games where one team has had to travel.

Hypothesis busted. It's all about ladder position.

have you run the numbers seperately for 1v4 and 2v3 though? My hypothesis would be the gap between 1 and 4 will override travel factor but 2v3 much less.

I have confidence in the 2050s that we can win our third flag, Im expecting Rankine and Rachele's sons to be an integral part of our forward line,
with Roo's son our likely coach.

Buckle up, its 30+ years from now.

Those that are 70+ years of age, stay strong. A woman in Henley Beach is 111 years old and oldest person in Australia.

That flog Barrett has mentioned Liberatore and 'Karma' on the AFL website
Can someone with Twitter tweet that prick asking where the replay of Liberatore's goal being definitive is??

what a royal brown sniffing rat
And its relevance to the result, considering it was in the first half, not a minute from the end.

If they could show one definitive angle that it was a goal, then fair enough. Liber kicked a point.

Speaking of Purple

IF ...

the Crows, as expected, finish last and then get pick two as free agency compensation for Brad Crouch ...

THEN ...

that would expose, yet again, the total farce that is the AFL free agency compensation system. Compo has to go, immediately.

Not sure he’s as vocal about the prospect of north getting pick 2 for McKay.

B Crouch is a far better player than B McKay

1 v 4: 23 games, 12 neutral, 11 involving travel (obviously it's team 4 that's travelling).
(Remembering that the overall win rate for team 1 is 74-26%)
  • For neutral grounds, it's 75-25% (for 1 v 4)
  • For travel, it's 64-36%.
So oddly enough, 1 has a lower % win rate when their opponent has to travel.

2 v 3: 23 games, 8 neutral, 15 travel.
(The overall win rate for team 2 is 70-30)
  • For neutral games, 63-38%
  • For travel, 73-27%
So 2 has a better win rate when their opponent has to travel. Which I suppose might be expected if the "gap" between 2 & 3 is lower; travel tips it in 2's favour.

To be fair, he's said that he doesn't think NM should get pick 1, yet alone pick 2.

He thinks there should be punishment for being terrible this long, which frankly is an interesting concept.

I don't mind it, prefer there be a lottery for the bottom 5-10 teams for the top picks though. Makes it not certain that being terrible gets you the best player
