I’m sure he was wanting to be drafted by Port, parfit was also a Port Supporter growing up. As was Cockatoo and C.Ah Che. I am sure I remember reading or hearing pre draft interviews for them all.

Most ruckman don’t show much at all in their first 3-4 years in the league.

They wouldn’t have been chasing him until mid this year if ever anyway. He finally broke out at 25 and improved significantly this year.

Whether that will translate to the AFL is an unknown but given the evidence of late blossoming rucks over the past 30 years, it would be much more likely he’ll be a decent player now at 25 than he would’ve been at 22.

It’s a good situation for us. We are cashing in at what looks like the beginning of his peak, while he has no trade value and is stuck behind the best ruck in the comp.

It’s a low risk, high reward move for us.

There's clearly marginal difference between the two, other than Hayes has had the line put through him for whatever behavioural reasons they decided we're unacceptable.

I can just see Hayes at WB, and when we play them English is injured, and Hayes destroys Lycett's corpse with 47 hit outs and 23 HTA's.
