Yeah old Sambo Salmon and Spencer was mid 60’s old style ruckman.
Leon Milde would be the worst kick of a football I’ve ever seen, could easily miss a goal from 10 metres out.
Robert Dolan won us GF against South (I think) and then sailed off into the sunset.

Russell was the first elite ruckman we had since I can remember , we had Kieth Spencer , Kevin ? Salmon , Leon Milde , Paul Marret , John Spry was adequate for a few years , Robert Dolan rucked in a premiership year Chris Natt , David Hynes who was more of a second ruck but Johnston was the real deal
Named as ruckman in the team of the century and extremely well deserved. Think he was underrated I watched him beat Carey and Redden in a lot of big games. Tremendous captain.
Wasn’t he compensation for Mark Williams going to Collingwood in 1981?

Also rucked in the 1980 grand final, swapping at full forward with Natt after Tim Evans broke his thumb.

Steve? Traynor?
Ian Hannaford - although maybe he was more of a CHF than a ruck?

Bustling Bobby Philp.

Kim Curtis as a chop out ruck when not playing CHF.

D Poole and D Mead as undersized (but incredibly competitive) KPP's who were turned into rucks.

Loved Spencer. Phenomenal leap. Remember him and Ebert taking hangers standing on Dean Farnham's shoulders every time Ron Elleway kicked off from a point at Lizbef oval one day.

Yes he was. Johnno's new team mate David Granger had been suspended for 3 matches for striking him in 1979.

There was a reason for our long premiership drought in the 60s/70s. A different one for our almost twice as long current drought, of course.

Perhaps then he sailed off into the sunset. We got him from Norwood, I think?
edit. All I remember from that South GF is that it rained from start to finish
Yep it pi&$ed down, was just about all over at Qtr time as I think we kicked with the wind in the first Qtr.
Remember some nice goals by Darrell Cahill.

I vaguely remember they gave out a paper sheet of the words to Souths Club song in case they won, they were pretty firm favourites that yr.

Go down the Star Ware path: get Hans Solo and Chewbacca
Chewbacca would be an awesome first ruck, is he available for our third rounder?

Even if Jordan Sweet is Sam Hayes mk11 with a more AFL type physique he has to be better than that prisoner of gravity Scott Lycett, and as per a number of others I would prefer Hayes retain his spot on the list than the current number 29.

Throwback of Sweet training with Ports in 2015.
