I literally only found out about Dalrymple and now I hear that North are after him, gee I feel like a laggard!
To be honest, I don't think you have too much to worry about.

Dalrymple left the dogs because the coach had too much say in his role.

Last time he spoke, he stated we were a very well run club with everyone playing their role from the executive to the players.

Word is Clarko likes to run multiple roles, a bit like Bevo and ScoMo!

Can't see him going to North any time soon...

Agree, sure has an eye for talent

I am of the strong opinion that a recruiter is far more valuable than what most people think and really should be one of the highest paid members of any club. I mean look at Essendon and what happens if you have a bad recruiter.

A really good recruiter is to me more important than a really good coach, though obviously both are important.

Love the reference to our club being well run. I have felt that based on what we can see from outside but it's great to have it confirmed.

2018 to 2020 drafted 15 players:
7 playing seniors
2 solid depth seniors quality
6 delisted
2021 too early to call but none look like duds.

As President of the Justice for Brady Rowles Society, I would just like to point out that were it not for COVID, he would still be on the list, and dare I say it, would be a regular in our 22 by now. The kid was good.

So was Foot, without the "e".
No doubt there were reasons they were both let go, we just don't know what they were. Neither has resurfaced in the AFL. Nor Malachy. It's a hard road.

Oh I think we do know. COVID cuts effecting list sizes. Rowles was showing great promise in the mess-resembling-a-reserves-season, and Foot was only at the end of his second year. No way in hell either would've been going anywhere end of 2020 if list reductions weren't forced upon us.

As you say, neither have resurfaced in the AFL sphere, and I agree that it speaks volumes about how difficult it is to get back into the AFL once you've had that experience and suffered the cruel and surely demotivating blow of being delisted whilst trying to develop as a youngster. Feel for both of them.

No doubt I’ll be in the minority, but if you remove the top 5 and academy picks (which basically picked themselves), his only major success has been Warner.

The last 2 drafts remain to be seen but 2022 doesn’t look very promising

Just going through his drafts since 2018 with us, noting there's national draft, rookie draft, supplementary draft and so on...

2018 was a ripper just about everywhere for our picks, huge success rate there, our best draft in a long time without academy hits dominating our successful picks.

2019 was a complete disaster aside from Warner. Caveat is that it was a very weak draft. Completely blew it with Stephens. Elijah Taylor looked a great get though and a big stand out late in the draft till he blew up his career. So could have had Warner and Taylor which would have been another great get.

2020 another ripper national draft. Lol Norf stuffed up not taking Logan McDonald, we took our 2 academy boys. No rookie has kicked on but a great draft albeit blind Freddy could have taken McDonald, Campbell and Gulden.

2021 interesting can be argued both ways noting we just traded Jordan and Adams in to fix the list whole of inside mids after we drafted Sheldrick and Roberts with our first two picks and Van Rooyen went the pick after Sheldrick. Sheldrick pick almost feels like a whoops we should have taken Serong fix up. On the flip side Shledrick and Roberts look absolute players and Corey Warner is showing promising wingman signs. Paddy in supplementary draft too.

2022 potential to be worse than 2019 without a Warner hit, again though a fairly underwhelming draft its looking like aside from the early first round. Totally get if people say too early to tell, just giving my gut guess is all.

2023 too early to tell, but no glaring stuff ups. If anything the opposite, will be very interesting if Green ends up a player we have solved our ruck glaring hole for 10 plus years.

So to be fair probably need 3 more years to go by to see whether 2022 and 2023 draftees come good but he did nail the 2018 draft!

yeah just did that little exercise myself, I concur.
No doubt that Dalrymple was a hardworking and competent talent spotter and will continue to be so at Saints. No-one gets it 100% right with 18 yo kids. Reckon 50% is a pretty good hit rate. I hope there was nothing untoward in his leaving, just a better offer and maybe a return home.
