I probably would have gone with Curtin at the time, but having seen some of the training footage, I am very bullish about Watson. We may have an abundance of small forwards at the moment but both Breust and Wingard are in their twilight years and Watson looks as though he could be special. We have McCabe and Ramma as key position prospects and Curtin wants midfield time, where we are loaded. We may be still in the market for a quality key position player at the end of this year but we we will be in a strong position to lure a suitable person, if required. So the forward line is going to consist of two tall marking forwards (at this stage Lewis and Chol), one medium tall/3rd tall (Gunners) and three small crumbling forwards. The latter will, ultimately, come from: Moore, Chad, Bruest, Wiz, Dimma, Ginni and maybe even Butler. Seven does not go into three. We are overloaded with small forwards.
Yes, it's crying over spilt milk, but I still think we should have gone for Curtin over Watson.
Still, now he's in Hawk colours, I hope the Wiz does really well.

I am not saying he is Cyril incarnate but that kind of danger in the forward line just makes such a difference. You want the opposition to shit itself. Loving hearing that he reads the ball so well. Cyril almost time travelled with his awareness. In 2 - 3 years time there’ll be no Breust, Gunston or Wingard. You don’t draft for the now when you’ve been bottom 6 for 4 years running.

And Butler may not even end up a small forward anyway - playing on wing at presentBreust, Gunner and Chad are just about done.
Butler may not make it.
Dimma may return to defence as we don't really have an elite small defender.
Chad’s form has been good for the most part. He’s really struggled with injury though and the injuries are likely to increase from here.Chad is 30, if form and fitness hold up (and admittedly those are big ifs), he could play another 4-5 years.
Breust and Gunston might retire at the end of the season.... Butler is dominating time trials but still needs to play footy still. Hardwick hasn't even played a game forward yet. I think Watson was almost the ideal pick given how hard it is to replace someone like Breust, and how important having that elite small forward is that has genuine 'x-factor'. Also we got McCabe who is a floating, tall defender and seems very promising. If we went another defender we wanting more a very solid 1 on 1 (see O'Sullivan), rather than going Curtin on top of McCabe. So the forward line is going to consist of two tall marking forwards (at this stage Lewis and Chol), one medium tall/3rd tall (Gunners) and three small crumbling forwards. At training and they had a goal kicking that included Breust. The wiz walked away with the prize with two back to back rippers. One left foot snap from the right forward pocket followed by a set shot on the right from the same pocket closer in threading the eye of the needle.
Worth remembering the kid is 18 will be phenomenon when he gets some footy age
With the stacked forward line going into 2024 could Gunston play a role behind the ball?
I have thought he will play back since he was brought back. Hopefully this happens.
Do you understand the caveat/disclaimer I put in that post? Do you understand the concept of the caveat/disclaimer?Wow that is a BIG call given how hard it has been for him to get on the park.....
The dreaded Hawthorn 'rolled ankle'Was down this morning, must have happened a bit before I arrived because he was getting iced up as I arrived but DGB had ice on his ankle not sure if it’s just a sprain View attachment 1889747
In regards to the role being played. He was a lead up forward not a crumbing forward.Huh? Dimma is barely 6 feet tall?
Just trying to dodge the otherwise mandatory 20 minute media commitment post-training.The dreaded Hawthorn 'rolled ankle'
Only players who have elite durability make it past 32/33 (I'm talking Burgoyne, Pendleberry, etc).Chad is 30, if form and fitness hold up (and admittedly those are big ifs), he could play another 4-5 years.
The caveat / disclaimers you put make the comment almost irrelevant. He could play for another 20 years if his body and form hold up. In reality, if he plays more than 2 I’ll be flabbergasted.Do you understand the caveat/disclaimer I put in that post? Do you understand the concept of the caveat/disclaimer?
