The Athletic’s Paul Dehner, Jr. reports “all expectations” are for the Bengals to use the franchise tag on Tee Higgins.
With Joe Burrow’s cap number remaining reasonable in 2024, the Bengals could afford to slap Higgins with the tag and pay him $20.7 million for next season. Higgins, who has missed 12 games with various injuries over the past three seasons, could also work out a long-term deal with Cincinnati before the tag is applied, or be traded to another team after application of the tag. For fantasy purposes, Higgins would see a significant boost if he got out from under the target-hogging shadow of Ja’Marr Chase. Franchise tags must be applied by March 5.

Brandon Aiyuk said he hopes to remain with the 49ers “if it’s the right move.”
This comes less than 24 hours after one of Aiyuk’s friends posted to Instagram saying, “This is the exact reason why we leaving San Francisco. Thank you 49ers for drafting my brother we are forever grateful.” This was undoubtedly somebody venting after Aiyuk managed just three catches in the Super Bowl loss to the Chiefs, but speculation about Aiyuk wanting out certainly turned some heads. Aiyuk is under contract through 2024 and is due more than $14 million. If he is moved this offseason, teams will have a give up a decent haul to lure one of the most productive receivers in the league from San Fran.

L’Jarius Sneed expected to land massive payday after Super Bowl exploits as NFL teams aim to poach Chiefs CB away from Kansas City

The Chiefs are still celebrating back-to-back Super Bowl titles after their victory over the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, as the parade is scheduled for Wednesday in Kansas City. Yet once the celebrations are complete, the focus will quickly turn to next season and free agency, as the team hopes to keep two defensive stars.

Two pivotal players for the Chiefs, defensive tackle Chris Jones and cornerback L’Jarius Sneed, are slated to become free agents in about one month’s time. The team has already announced keeping both in the fold is a priority, yet that’s going to be difficult.

Jones, one of the best defensive tackles in the league, missed all of training camp last summer as well as the first regular season game in a bid to sign a new contract. He never did receive the contract he was looking for, rather the Chiefs reworked the final year of his deal for an estimated $25 million, including $19.5 million in base salary. Part of the deal included the Chiefs retaining the right to place the franchise tag on Chris Jones this offseason, which many see as a distinct possibility.

That is, unless the franchise tag is placed on Sneed.

Sneed, a fourth-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft out of Louisiana Tech, has been a starter since his rookie season in Kansas City. In 57 games he’s picked off 10 passes and broke up 40. Sneed publicly stated he prefers to stay with the Chiefs, but retaining both he and Chris Jones may be a bit too expensive.
There was talk during Senior Bowl week that Kansas City could place the franchise tag on Sneed this offseason, a move that is projected to cost around $19 million. If he hits the open market, expectations are that Sneed will sign a long-term contract that averages around $18.5 million annually, just under the tag amount.

If the Chiefs can’t sign Sneed in the offseason, where could he land? Keep an eye on the Atlanta Falcons, Dallas Cowboys and Las Vegas Raiders.

The Cowboys would have to do a lot of work to make enough room under the cap to sign Sneed. On the other hand, the Falcons presently have in excess of $25 million in cap space heading toward the new league year.

Yes please.

The levels of cringe... WRs are something else. :$ Trying wayyyy too hard Aiyuk.

I get that it would be kind of hard, but it's another example of taking a deep breath after a tough loss.

Take some time off and leave it for a week, damn haha.

$18.5m AAV for Snead is unders imo. I see no reason why he wouldn't get a top of the market deal

Yep, that's why I said he deserves to be the highest paid corner in the league. Travels all over the field unlike a lot of other corners that are considered great, beast in the slot or on the boundary.

When you play soft coverage against the game winning drive when the opposition has the worst set of WRs in the league you have to pay the consequences.

Mahomes didn't even do anything amazing on that last drive, dinked and dunked down the field until Shanahan got tired of the defensive calls and called a time out to adjust to man. By then it was too late.

If only Kyle would do the right thing and sack himself for a poor performance in the Superbowl. He was far worse than Wilks.

You know that's not how bosses work.

If it was the case I would have had about 200 of them by now.

TBF, it just never gelled, they got out of the blocks hot, fell into a slumber and were disastrous in the playoffs until the SB where I think the personal pride of the playing group was more responsible for the performance.

I can't think of many times where Wilks outcoached the opposition.
