Hate to say I told ya so, everyone's a genius in hindsight, blah blah blah, but I said all along we should/should have grabbed Curtin...
Real d*ckhead areas here mate....don't be 'that guy.'

Positives only.

Chol having a great pre season is huge for us. Looks like he could be the vital structural piece we needed in the forward half.

Watson, Ginnivan and to a lesser extent Gunston look to be going well which is also crucial. They add much needed flair and goal scoring options.

Huss and Frenchy having big pre seasons is great timing. They will get plenty of opportunity to show us what they've got.

Ramma going to another level by the sound of it. Hopefully he's got a few more left to go. Same goes for Croc.

Lewis, Sis, Reeves and Newk all fit and we know what they can do.

We now have an array of mids, wings and flankers as cover options. Bring on a double dose of Bevos Bulldogs.

If you were gonna make this statement (which you shouldn't have) you should have at least said Connor O'Sullivan who was probably the best Key Defender in the draft just gone. And even then it's still a ridiculous statement.

Devastated for Blancky, had done everything right, got a contract extension because of the work he had put in and now he's gotta sit out an entire season. Hope he has a lot of support around him as it would be mentally challenging to find motivation in the early days after getting that news. He'll be back bigger and better next year!

If you had any hindsight, you'd realise what a ******** you sound like now.

When you were polluting the Nick Watson thread every third post with "I wanted Curtin", that was bad enough, but this is beyond the pale.

I reckon you've lost a lot of ground in people's eyes here..."hate to say I told you so" my arse

This is wrong on so many levels I don't even know where to begin.

Agree!! We have been looking for a small forward with the so-called 'X' factor since Cyril and at the end of last season we pick up two who I am sure other clubs woulod line up for. As good as Curtin is, we also managed cto steal Bodie Ryan who mangaed to take care of a pretty good player last year and has been showing good form during pfre season.

Yes because now we are once again forced to use Sicily as our number one key defender (Frost ain't good enough to stand the likes of 2MP, Curnow, etc) and he won't be able to roam free across half back.

I was so looking forward to seeing the damage Sic could inflict if he was allowed to roam free like Tom Stewart is.

Blank ain't no world beater but it's going to cause all kinds of issues down back from a structural standpoint.

Great assessment, spot on with the last.

Does Mitchell stick to the structure or bite the bullet with Sicily and swap him back to the #1?

My thoughts it's to early to abandon the plan. We have two hitouts vs the dogs to figure it out! They will stretch us (Naught, UGH, Lobb,Darcy)

I hate to admit it on these boards, but I’m a Frosty. His attack on the ball and speed is exceptional. Sure, he’s far too wayward with his kicking and transitional decision-making is 50/50, but he’s pretty clutch when the attackers are loose and the ball is there to be won. And, to be fair, that’s a position we’ve found ourselves in a few times over the last two years.

So, I don’t mind Frosty. I sometimes think that his transitional miscues are so noticeable because he seems to make them just after having made some remarkable win for a contested ball. He throws the win away with a big clanger.

Anyways, I’m glad we have him back there. On balance I think he’s better for the defense (despite the clanging frustrations).

He does a job well. A strong and fast defender

The only issues are when he tries to show finesse, and creativity. Turnovers kill in the modern game, and when he tries to be too delicate or precise, it breaks down too often..

The Jonny Hay rule...

Frosty, don't think...DO! Just run 20 and then hoof it 60 to contest!

I was very keen to bring in Chol during the trade week and its clear why.

He offers so much more than Kozzie, has the ability to hit the scoreboard, provide forward pressure, a good user of the ball & brings the ball to the ground.

Will be a very good partner to Lewis this year.
Just needs to keep wanting it, and that alone is his biggest issue. Could work out to be a great duo with Lewis.

Should get him a shock collar.

Whoever has the most touches on the bench gets to play with the remote.

If he even thinks about a short kick I want to see the Newk mashing that button like a Street Fighter combo.

Blanck was probably the player we could least afford to lose this season. There really is no adequate replacement or him. As he is the only guy on the list that has the size and strength to play on the big key forwards. As others have mentioned, this is not Frost’s one wood, nor is it Sicily’s. Yet one of them will find themselves playing in a role they are neither suited to or comfortable in. The saving grace from this occurrence is that, with the exception of Curnow and Hawkins, there aren’t any forwards with the necessary attributes to exploit this structural weakness. In a different era this blow would have been far more difficult to cover.

I trust we make room for Phillips.
LTI on Blanck is a no brainer...we were obviously very close on Phillips beforehand, and he is the identical role to Blanck.

I'm struggling to think of a way we don't take Phillips next week

I once said Morrison wasnt as good as people let on and wouldn't be in our next premiership and I thought i copped some flak

This is just next level lol

Takeaways from today:
  • Shocking news with Blancky's ACL injury. When he was assessed and went down the tunnel without ice on the knee it wasn't a great sign. Incredibly pleased he signed his extension so he has security for his career at least.
  • CJ injury less than ideal, but happening now means he can get back early in the season, rather than missing most of it. Was good to see Sam take Tew up to the rooms to see his brother after it happened.
  • Ramsden's third quarter kicking 3 goals for the Blue team was great to see for his confidence and ended the intra on the stronger team. Hale was asked about Ramma in the media conference and spoke about if we played 2 rucks, one would need forward craft which he has in spades.
  • Chol's handful of goals was great to see, but loved some of his defensive intent. At one stage chased Impey and almost caught him which was pleasing to see.
  • Watson's spark when he went near the ball was a joy to behold.
  • Hustwaite had close to 10 clearances in the second half in what was a much weaker midfield unit and his poise was great. His spin out of traffic, run to 45 and slot it was pure class.
  • Frenchie getting time in the middle and breaking away from packs showed that the extra work on his fitness this pre season has him in good stead.
  • Dimma looked dangerous as a leading forward and interestingly enough, once Blanck went down, there was no throwing Dimma back in defence for the restructure, but rather moving Serong to the gold team
  • Massimo and Amon kicking out from the back half will excite and thrill supporters this season. Massimo said afterwards that he feels at home with the team and like he belongs here, which he didn't ever feel at the Bombers. Hale spoke glowingly about those two in the media conference as well

I like your optimism. Unfortunately, he has no game sense with the ball in hand and his brain farts can be team sapping. That play v Carlton last year, missing a simple handball to Seamus and turnover goal when Hawks where getting some respectability back into the game is etched in my brain.

On top of that, the umps most predictable decision in any one on one contest he is involved in is a free against. His reputation for f***ing up stretches to the umpire fraternity, unfortunately.
