Has it been mentioned that Naismith is our 2nd option? Everything I have heard, is that he is insurance only.
He is definitely on board as insurance but I would not call him 3rd in line. Naismith is a talented ruck and I could see him ousting both Nank & Ryan to be number 1, if he stays fit, a big if though.

I would put that down to still being so young at 22 years of age

Whilst some do have that 'Campaigner' in them at a young age most dont and they do develop that part of the game when they get to around 24/25 once the body is stronger and they get the ruck smarts

Max Gawn played 9 games as a 23 year old averaging 10 disposals and 14.8 hitouts Ryan 7 disposals 12.2 this year
but Gawn is an athletic beast now and not sure how he was when at the same age
Gawn’s rise was incredible and I do have his career in the back of my mind and hope Ryan can do similar. Gawn still had more mongrel in him early though and was hindered by injuries , but was still as clumsy.

Naismith will be 32 mid next season and has played 30 games in 10 seasons of AFL. Yeah I’m not holding my breath bc of his injury history. He’s insurance backed with health insurance. 😂. God if we could get two good seasons from him it would help our depleted ruck stocks greatly, but ???

Naismith is an AFL calibre back up that if things go badly we can bring in as cover. As it stands I still have Nankervis as the number 1, but Ryan should be aiming to try and surpass Nankervis by the end of 2024

If you’re 200cm plus and you can’t mark, fall over often and get rag dolled then you should really be looking for a career change. He looks timid and disinterested and I just don’t like his body language as it tells players I’m an easy kill. He needs an injection of aggression in him.

He has plenty of campaigner in him, just watch him at VFL level.

It's obviously going to be a slow burn for Samson. I still have high hopes.

haven't seen it yet, but could be a player if he improved all his deficiencies I've mentioned. slow burns can lead to delisting's if improvement isn't happening.

Just shows you don't actually watch him closely then... no point you saying anymore about him until you actually wacth him, rather than just pot him.

Yes i do as he's the same stage as 6 months ago. How about you open your eyes rather than blowing smoke up his arse and carrying on with BS.

I was a big fan of Samson and often made excuses for his inability to take a mark. What I saw on the weekend worries me greatly and has me thinking will he ever make it. He seems to get into all the correct positions so his ability to read the ball isn't the issue, the real issue is the basic skill errors and inability to take a mark. Honestly at the moment Naismith is miles ahead of him for the second ruck option. The other issue is that he hasn't really advanced his development, I hope we don't just gift him games.

This time last year Samson had a great practice match V the Dees and out marked May and Petty several times. At this stage I think he's more suited to the KPF role and will naturally mature into a ruckman in time. If Naismith and Colina are available Samson should be used exclusively as a key forward in the VFL.
