I think the only thing that stops him extending his career is his first touch under pressure at AFL level. He has to be cleaner and more one touch to allow him to use his speed. I though he was ok at VFL level in this area in the games I watched, but not as good when he got his AFL chances, except for maybe the Gold Coast game.
This has always been and remains an issue. With confidence etc he has improved but he is not naturally super clean, certainly not one touch which when your main attribute is covering ground to link up is pretty crucial.

Has gone from hard to watch to quite solid and at worst is a good 25 - 30 player.

It seems pretty nuts to suggest about a four time premiership coach but Clarko needs to prove himself again. 2015 was a long time ago in terms of how the game has changed and he made a lot of mistakes rebuilding the Hawks in terms of top-ups and gameplan.

I agree with the above that he's essentially in year one now and I've got the feeling that standards have improved but whether or not we play finals with Clarko is very far from determined.
Hence why he took the gig ultimately I reckon. He’s a mad driven hard bastard football genius but he also needs to learn, adapt and evolve. Signs were good with studying in US and with Ange before the Hawthorn shit.

If he can turn an all time rabble like we’ve been around and win just one flag it’s between him and Barrassi for GOAT coach surely? If he can do better than that he is the GOAT.

Reid didn't do much today. Pretty happy WC took him and left mckertcher..
One of them was always more equipped to make an immediate impact at the level than the other. Tank and accumulation ability is the holy grail of traits for rookie mids who want to jump straight into it. Pace being a bonus.

Reid will take more time. Doesn't mean shit regarding their careers as a whole

He was very good against two Premiership rucks.

Cross that pre season anx off the list thanks very much

I didn't get to watch a lot of the first half. Everyone is saying Wardlaw was amazing but obviously his stats are pretty grim from a high % CBA midfielder (9 touches with 66% efficiency in a half and no tackles/marks). What was he doing that got such a positive reception? I assume it must have been something that doesn't show on the stat sheet.

From that sheet it also seems as though Powell was clearly the best of the three 'seconds' midfielders, which is interesting and not what I'd have expected going into the game. Amazing for him, though.

I don't think the Wardlaw possession stats are accurate.

Was physically imposing on the contest, seems to have a knack for breaking packs open and keeping the ball moving our way without getting an actual possession.

He generated our first goal through closing down late to bump Noble off his kick which led to a turnover and goal from. I think it made our socials.

Edit: Yeah it did.

I just watched the last quarter today - RHJ’s stats are wrong.

There’s also a clip of Wardlaw shutting down a pies player in our forward fifty - so he definitely got atleast one tackle.

As an aside...this is why Powell is way ahead of Phillips. Will can't do that. No chance.
