Whoever mentioned that Zak Jones is a good handballer, this clip sums it up. Drew the opponent with the dummy handball only to hit a perfect handball on his non-preferred and open the game up. One thing Jones regularly does it shift defensive lines with his speed, his candy selling and other smart ball movement. He is underrate

Windhager

24 possessions
16 contested possions
7 clearances (6 centre clearances)
6 tackles

to go with relentless attack, pressure, and seemed to have more spring in his step than everyone around him!

One of our midfield questions answered

It was his (Windhagers) speed of movement and his ability to drive and work out of congestion that was something we have been screaming for for years. If we can get him playing at that level consistently he will become a very good and integral player. Then if Owens can continue to have an impact at the break downs and we can keep Jones fit and playing, Dow back on the field our midfield will look even more dangerous.

The entire side were brilliant last night even the lesser lights -

Windhager played his best game ever for the club 2nd BOG for me,
Cordy had a great game in defence,
Stocker shut down Elliott,
Ross did a job on De Goey and contributed as a mid,
Higgins got on the end of few and really competed in contests,
Sharman's 3rd quarter was absolutley sensational he worked his arse off.

Then the stars were allowed to shine -

Naz was brilliant BOG by a long way,
Steele was back to his old self,
Marshall lost hitouts but gave a contest and won the most clearances of any other player, his work rate is ridiculous,
King looks like he belongs and is starting to display that alpa male leadership and attitude,
Wilkie he is so good we forget the level he plays at every week, he is unbelievably reliable,
Henry is exactly the player we need with his speed and clean ball use and is dangerous around goals.
Hill also worked his absolute arse off all night the amount of ground he covers to work to block space and pressure is super human.
Membrey just keeps getting it done competing against players heaps bigger and taller than himself.

What a difference a week makes in footy!

Sorry let me clarify my point to yours.

In the second (mid to end of the quarter) we lost the ability to transition. It became a scrimmage.

We really struggle when we can’t break even from stoppage as it lets us put our own speed on the game.

So the ball would be won and go deep in D50. We rebound and can’t transition - go long and lose the next kick. Or for a stoppage and lose that.

It’s a theme across the first 2 games.

The moment we get some space to go and put speed on our ball movement. We look really good.

It’s why I felt like Caminiti might need to play if we can’t sort out those runs the good sides get and lock us down.

We need another tall who can mark or kill the ball down the line. In the first half of Q1 - King was high and it were transitioning. But no tall deep and we kept getting the pies killing us on turnover.
The only thing I would add is that in Q3, once we started to control the clearances from stoppage and ran, the Pies couldn’t go with us - they were chasing and by the end of Q3 looked completely shot.

Once they drop off more time & space is created and we really start to dominate.

Considering we paid $100k to transfer...I heard it was about break even (at 70,000)

~42k - public
13,200 - AFL
14,650 - MCC inc.
(5,800 - - Vis. Tix)
Maybe so,. but i doubt it was about whether we made a profit on the day, its about, how much more money came to the DFC then if stayed at Marvel. I suspect its much more.

Going to be very interesting with Crouch and Ross moving forward. I really hope they've made a decision that only one of them can play in the same team. I'd have Crouch in that role if he's fully fit, but Ross was solid last night.

i dont think its crouch or ross who will feel the immediate pinch

it will be someone like hunter clark and zak jones who are going to find it very tough moving fwd

the plan will be that they use the experience of Crouch and Ross whilst the kids develop. Eventually guys like Windhager, Owens, Pou and Darcy should be pushing them out into retirement.

Funny match. So glad we won.

Windhager and NWM were elite. Owens was good. Higgins answered the critics (not having set shots is a big factor) and there were others who performed well.

Some concerns are our ability to bring the ball to ground and moving the ball fluidly. We can really make things difficult for ourselves in transition. Ironing that out will be key. I don’t think many teams will be able to stop us when we get it going by hand and run.

Watched the replay and can we discuss how bad the commentating was. BT ruined the goal of the year, no insights on how the game was won and the tone when mason wood was injured was school boy.
Literally came here to say that. Absolutley shit all over the telecast, with the final excrement mark being the call over the siren, crapping on about Collingwood being 0-3 and Easter Thursday etc. BT had about 6 minutes prior to that to discuss the shock waves of Collingwood being 0-3, there's a reason good commentators use the seconds before and after the siren to make comments about the winner. So out of touch

Anyway, here's actual quality commentary of Higgins goal

More than a year down the track, and I still have no idea why Carlton delisted Stocker.

I know he doesn’t get heaps of it, and when he does he’s pretty conservative when choosing an option, but he’s strong, clean, cool under pressure and tough as they come.

Carlton delisting him makes absolutely no sense, but boy I’m glad they did.
One hopes we're saying the same about Dow in 12 months time.

SEN has a sync option, turn off that fat Collingwood loving slug BT and listen to the SEN commentary.

Yes that is correct.

But everything starts in the coal face. If we get obliterated in there. Then it’s very very tough to get on the outside and use our weapons/play our game.

Which is what we have seen in periods during the first 2 games. Geelong clamped us down and should have buried us at half time. Pies went from a noose around their neck to putting us on the ropes at half time.

Just on BT, do remember in this match he did state how Membrey had kicked his first, awkward 3 seconds later, actually he has two; and he then moved on to another tangent to cover his screw up.

We should not be critiquing a commentary based on an idiot not watching or noting anything down about the game he's at since he's obviously not watching it live. The others in there with him are just as much to blame.
