Feel sorry for Members, a shell of his former self.
Reckon he's cooked

I'm not convinced it's all him.

Both he and Sharman keep swapping, each time they blitz it in the VFL then when they play senior footy they stink it up. Like everyone else trying to play as a forward for the senior AFL team.

Seems like playing forward for us is an incredibly hard task and maybe that's the bigger issue.

Yep, it was the Footscray game. Doogs went down in Round 16 loss to Carlton, and finally, Tom Highmore got a recall for Round 18. He was done. And looked bad....after such a promising start. A couple of times, he has space, and possession, and misfired. A sad conclusion to a brief career. And as Jimmy Webster went under pre-Round One this year, I wonder if he could have learnt the low bullet pass?

You stated that he ""Néver recovered"" which is why I replied. He was just never good enough, and that was why we ended up letting him go after giving him a go.

All players can have shockers. Even the guns.

His confidence was not shattered and he has continued to have a good VFL record. The next game after you said he looked bad he played a stellar game for Sandi.

It was not just one last AFL game that brought him undone. The selectors most likely decided that he was not going to improve to reach AFL level for the flaws in his game that I mentioned. Most players drafted do not become regular AFL players.

He was 23 when he played his first game ,and he played 16 games.
You don't get as much slack at that age.
You can expect some improvement after training in an elite program ( were we elite )? but i'd suggest the club figured, that after 2 years he really wasn't that much different than he was on day 1.

If you look at ALL of our "third tall" forwards played this year they have all struggled. Pou, Owens, Sharman and Membrey.

Personally I think one reason is that we have been playing too many marking targets at once in our forward line this year. Remember too that Higgins often plays more like a marking target than a traditional small crumbing forward. And then at times King, Caminiti and Hayes as tall targets.

That is a lot of players competing for a pass to them. Or even for a pack mark.

Now with the injuries and suspensions to Butler, Higgins and Henry that has limited the selectors somewhat this year.
But it used to be Higgins, Butler and Gresham together.

Agree. That is why he was let go. Not just the one bad game.

Agree with this point as well.

I'm not in any private DM groups but I heard a rumour Arie launched one at training that crossed the border into Chelsea Beach.

The border of Chelsea Beach and Moorabbin?
You believe too much stuff from social media.
You know the truth is he kicked it over to South Road so he could run to get the ball and visit BWS and pick up a slab to share with the primary school kids who were watching.

Luckily our 1st and 2nd talls aren't struggling..... oh wait.

I think three tall forwards can work as long as they are not always leading to the same spot or trying to take the same mark.
3 can definitely work.

I think part of our issues is we are trying to play a 4th with Owens being some sort of hybrid key and then Higgins also spending time deep as a marking target.

King needs to find a way to lead out away from his opponent .

Caminiti can stay closer to the goals, and needs to better intimidate his opponents.

Astute observation there TP. In fact, that happens to be the exact formula for success when you are fielding key forwards in any number greater than 1 !! That also seems to be a key failing in the functioning of our forward line and can be summed up in a single word - SEPARATION!

That looks a lot like BJ in the background of the photo of Roo, but it obviously isn't, because he's not pointing! Anyone know who it is?

The guns look like Armo.

Is it just me or is it every time Shoenmaker is mentioned on this forum the maximum distance of his kick increases.

True story.

There was 2 kicks in pre season that the boys always go on about.

Both landed roughly 70m.

One was a full back kick out in match sim.

One was a torp outer side wing where they were taking the piss out of each other and he let this monster kick go towards goal (I believe it missed)

I don't really gamble but the line of 35 points would be tasty.

We've lost a few but you'd still expect it to be low scoring and close.

So when they score a behind , we should put our fastest runners near the middle, and instruct Ari to let-er rip.
The runners then chase the ball that is flying over their head.
