No way Carlton will never let it go that they got the best kid in the draft. This is going to backfire spectacularly for someone.
Plenty had him as the best. Who gives a ****? He's a Carlton player now. They did well trading up to land a top 3 pick. Now hopefully he never has any success at the Blooz.

He won't, because wherever he goes that dud Smith will be in the team.

Bottom 3 could still be

West Coast
Norf
Richmond

LDU leaves that s**tstain of a club via FA (Band 1). Means picks are:

1. Richmond
2. Richmond
3. Norf
4. West Coast

Richmond trade 2 and 2026 1st to WC for Reid.
West Coast trade 4 and Hawks 1st to Sydney for Warner

1. Sharp (Tiges)
2. Rodriguez (Eagles)
3. Another midfielder (Norf)
4. Whoever is left for WCE

Sharp and Reid makes us shoot up the ladder in 2026, so our 1st then isn't super low
Doesn't seem a very good deal for WC TBH. The big question to me is, is Ried that much better than Sharp? If we target Ried, can we pay Lalor and Smillie and a couple of KPP when they are all in their prime and worth $2M each in a few years as they develop. It just seems unlikely even with the future cap space that we could afford to overpay another No1 draft pick in Ried.

First of all he said likely, not would. And secondly he said the risk was too great that someone would swoop in for Saints 2nd pick to pinch Smillie. Which given how many 1st round pick offers were being thrown about must've been a real chance.
Saints knocked back a Kings Ransom for their 2nd pick - it was no chance of being traded out

Doubt that very much, king's ransom. Like what?

North offered them their future first and rightly so, it was knocked back, saints made it well known prior to the draft that they were open to trading their 2nd pick for the right price, they wanted a couple of 1st rounders for it.

To say saints had no chance of trading is 100% incorrect. Richmond did the right thing instead of leaving it up to chance. Just because we didn't pick a player you obviously rated doesn't make the decision made by the club wrong.

Sounds like we had massive intel on what the Swans were wanting to do all night. Wonder who the leak was at the Swans?

Also, Smillie wasn't sliding to our next pick, as the article said there was a real possibility that another club would have traded up for that pick so taking him at 7 was a wise move. So, if you honestly think he was going to be available you are a tad naive.

I think it’s largely made up by twomey. Every year we seem to be grabbing a player before Sydney. Brown the last one.

Maybe but out of all the media pre-draft none of them picked the first 9 correctly. I think there is some truths in what he says whether a few clubs feed him wrong info deliberately isn't him making it up.

Clubs are very open with their intel and order post draft. Twomey has written this type of article at least for the previous 2 drafts also

We played it conservatively. If we weren’t so risk adverse we could have ended up with a higher rated and better balanced haul. Lindsay or Tauru plus the same first 4 we did get

Conservatively? We went for the high upside players when there were more bankable players with nearly every pick.

It’s bullshit because if we don’t take smillie we have to take someone. If it’s travalligia or tauru then smillie doesn’t fall past the saints.

Or if we take Lindsey he doesn’t pass the dees.
