So Carlton and Suns will be able to shuffle down the board to get a pick that is within 18 of a bid.

A pair of top-five draft picks are expected to be dropped on the AFLW trade table this week as Carlton and Gold Coast shuffle down the order.

The Suns currently hold pick 2 in December 16’s first truly national draft but clubs are expecting them to move back to prepare for a bid on ace academy prospect Havana Harris.

And similarly, the Blues are expected to seek offers for their No.5 choice, which would be swallowed up by father-daughter talent Sophie McKay.

McKay, the daughter offer 244-game premiership player Andrew McKay and the sister of co-vice-captain Abbie, is a speedy midfielder.

She has nominated Carlton as a father-daughter selection.

Standing at 183cm, Harris has been capable of rucking and playing as a ground midfielder in her draft year and could have been a No.1 contender if she wasn’t entrenched in the Suns academy.

Gold Coast is no stranger to selling picks and moving down the order, with the mens side having shifted top picks in each of the last three years.

It could prove to be a busy trade week for Gold Coast, with captain Tara Bohanna having requested a trade, as Victorian clubs line up.

The Suns sacked coach Cam Joyce on Monday and have also been linked to Melbourne’s contracted star Lily Mithen.

Unlike the male rules, where clubs can stockpile picks in the later rounds to match bids, AFLW clubs require a pick within 18 selections to match a bid, so sliding down the order needs to be contained.

Geelong’s Darcy Moloney, 22, has requested a trade, with West Coast and Sydney her two likely landing spots.

The Cats are readying for draft capital in return for the 46-gamer, who hasn’t been able to fully crack Geelong’s tight midfield rotation.

I’m sensing the trade period will leave us with a less glamorous draft hand

Still, nice that with Daisy in charge we become a destination club
It shouldn't. I hope.... If we trade our first pick I'll be very unimpressed. This draft is fking stacked. Trading a second or 3rd for an established player that will have immediate impact I can live with. What are the rules for AFLW? Can the league trade futures?

Not sure on whether we can trade futures.

We currently have pick 6 and as you say, if traded it will need to be for very top end talent. With Suns and Blues likely to trade out, we will get the 6th best prospect that is not club tied. In our list build we need to take the cream when you can. Less concerned we use our R2 or 3 but I’m not want a 28 year old

Moloney might have been worth a 2nd pick a few years ago, but only a 3rd rounder this year, if that.

Too hard to figure out how this affects us. It depends who Gold Coast and Carlton sell their picks to. There's talk the Suns want Mithen from Melbourne, so if the Dees end up with pick 2, like-for-like replacement would be Zippy, so there goes our shot at her. And she's a perfect player for the Dees, plays exactly how they like, and a great environment for her to take a few years to learn her craft at her own speed.

Which again, if we keep our first pick, means we probably end up with Sara Howley, or Lou Painter, or Sierra Greives, all great midfielders, but not quite Zippy.

Good to hear Lakay has been signed up, she really built back to some of her best by the end of the season. I'd reckon she's still the clear number one ruck especially if she can build on her fitness, but adding extra depth in the ruck role on the cheap doesn't hurt at all either.
Yeah if we can get Liz for a bag of ships sure. But trading anything of value for a player who can't crack the senior side (granted, in the best team in the comp) would be silly one would think.

Rookie Me have their AFLW draft guide out.

Here is a little bit of a snapshot of the draft as it stands now

With the Suns and Blues able to match a bid on Harris and McKay so long as it is within 18 spots, I expect the Suns will definitely trade 2. The Blues are more interesting as Sophie is tipped to be in the 5 to 15 bracket and Blues might well run the risk hoping she gets passed 4 meaning they get 2 elite players (they will be able to match Sophie at 23 provided she gets passed 4).

Please note that the colour coding is not 100% aligned to U18 teams as Stingrays is Vic Country but covers a lot of outer Melbourne and the Jest covers western Melbourne and rural so it is my interpretation of being city based.

I suggest there is zero change Zippy gets to us at 6 but O'Hehir could well do so, or we would have either Painter or McDonald. That said, McDonald being the highest KPF forward is most likely to go before 6.

So at 6, there are some great options and hence we do not want to trade it unless it was a great deal player wise

Good, I wouldn't have traded our second pick for her anyway xx

Thoughts on us chasing and being strongly linked to Liz McGrath and what do you think her her trade value is ?

We currently hold:
6, 24, 42 , 60 and 78.

I couldn't accurately say as I know next to nothing about her as a player, only that she can't crack the Roos senior side and is their 3rd string ruck 🤷‍♂️ only played 3 games at Port in her debut season. So maybe 78? 😅

Hope Daisy and the club can work some magic this trade period. Really too bad this is the first 'open' AFLW draft. Would've loved getting Zippy Fish in...and what a name.
Would be a great get, but gee Zip, if you support 4 clubs, throw us a bone at least. No love.

Three-year deal for Schilling and two years each for Zakfer and Bakker.

Sarah Black Eliza Reilly also reporting Lakay has signed a one year extension, but that’s not part of the official release.

Slide from 42 to 54 and get a backup ruck. I don't hate it but only time will tell if this is a good trade or not.

I don't mind the trade, this move looks like we might be grooming LWakfer to be a KPF.
