KPD. What is the plan? Is there a plan?

McIntosh, Jacovich, McGovern and Barrass all spent a load of time playing CHF before moving down back.

I cannot see Jamieson being on the list much longer as his body cannot cope

Allen may well find his knees are better when playing CHB

Maric is looking a gem

Archer looks like he goes in and out of the game as a forward and hence why a few of us think he might be better served down back

Barnett - ruck looks less likely so I’d like to see him as the 200 cm full back

We have plenty of tall options. We can relax

Correct.

We have plenty of options.

And a plan.

Just need time to find out who is up to the task. And who isn't.

Harry Edwards and Jaimison.

Or Archer Reid.

Maric at 196cm is training in defense.

Ginbey and Bo are 190cm plus half backs with pace to intercept.

Hough is taller than both.

We get the manic pressure right up the ground then defending becomes a new ball game.
Edwards is struggling to stay fit and I would be flabbergasted if Jamo gets another contract. Maric is more a distributor that happens to be tall rather than a KPD than mans a KPF. Don’t think he has the body to transform into someone that can do that either.

Agree with the pressure further up the ground but I still see us struggling massively vs Curnow or King types.

I get your point but Curnow is only 194cm. Good player mind you but not sure the gorilla is what is needed for Curnow.

Maybe the plan is not to overly rely on big KPDs but more mobile defenders who can run off their opponent which will be dependent on pressure further up the ground

Like how Richmond played

Rance (195cm) wasn’t tall and Grimes (193cm) who anchored the defence after Rance did his knee was shorter. And Balta is 194cm

At Melbourne, May (193cm) and Lever (195cm) aren’t tall either

McQualter is on record as saying he’s bringing in a lot of what he’s learned at those two clubs so perhaps he’s looking at a more swarming intercept style defence not unlike our own Weagles web

Suspect we’ll get a better idea post Christmas when the players start training defensive setups which hasn’t been done as yet. Hopefully we get a look at Barnett and Maric as defenders then. And Edwards provided his foot injury responds to rest

Strong chance that Sandy Brock is officially added to the list by then as well - only a hunch but I think he gets the nod ahead of Burgiel
I had a look at other clubs, and there really is a bunch of clubs that have shorter KPDs, more than I thought.

To add to your examples of shorter backlines:
Sydney run with McCartin(194cm), Francis(192cm) and Rampe(187cm) as their 3 guys who take on big forwards. Francis is in and out of the side too.
Geelong who dropped Dekoning toward the end of the year and played Henry(192cm) and Kolodjashnij(193cm).
Carlton run Weitering(195cm) and then some random fringe player.
Crows have Keane(194cm) and Murray(195cm).
Gold Coast have Collins(194cm) and Ballard(196cm).

We are probably actually fine with Bazzo, Maric, and a KPF who swaps to the backline looking at this

Did you just call Mitch McGovern some random fringe player? ;) :$ :joycat:

The Curnow issue is not the height, it’s the athleticism. He would torch HEdwards and outmark a smaller athletic type. Someone like Zach Reid would be a good match up for him.

If we land Starcevich at the end of the year we'd be pretty set.

Bazzo/H.Edwards

Maric 3rd tall

Hough can play small or tall

Starcevich can play above his height

Starcevich Bazzo Hough
Baker H.Edwards Maric

Darling struggled more against medium defenders not the big talls. A defender who could stay with him on the lead and spoil.

The taller less agile defenders he could handle.

I was having a quick Google trying to find Maric next to someone for reference.
I found this next to OA in the middle of a pack....Then I saw the hand of Petch in this phot illusion :tearsofjoy:

Looks like he's nicely holdong his old boy

Could be the only touch Petch gets. I’ve got Maric as 193cm, would be nice to get a club update I don’t believe he’s 196cm.

Well that photo shows he is closer to Allens height than Darling.

Definately taller than Darling. More than 3cm clearly.
Don’t think we can read too much into that, Petch looks like he’s Oscar’s height. Would just be nice if the club/AFL released some accurate figures of the last body metric we’re allowed to know.

The way Hough is filling out there is a chance he may be able to take on the KPB role this year if required (in case of injury and lack of options). He has all the attributes, perhaps a touch on the shorter side, but if he has the strength now to hold position against the big boys then he might be a left field option.

You need to hold back on Houghs size. Yes has put on some muscle but he's far from big. He would get rag dolled by a big forward.
