You know, the level where he's making a shitload of test runs.
The "rules", like making runs?
Guess what? Smith has never played a test against Bangladesh or Zimbabwe. And I'm guessing you'd agree that SA has the best modern pace attack in world cricket, unless you think Steyn, Philander and...
No, the rinse/repeat with Marsh is he makes a brilliant century against a very good attack, then goes missing for five innings, then is dropped, then recalled and makes a decent ton, then fails four times in a row and is dropped….
As I said and have continued to say, I know he can bat. Most people do. But be honest, would you have been surprised if he'd made 4 (one beautiful on drive) and then gone out? I'm not saying he can't bat or didn't bat well in Adelaide. I'm saying I'm confused as to why he keeps getting chances...
Where did I say they were available for selection?
That was my whole point, guys back then were lucky to get one chance, if that. Marsh has had several in spite of a mediocre record due entirely to his inconsistency.
I'd have much preferred they gave Ferguson or Klinger a deserved...
There's more to it than that. His inconsistency is the reason why people don't rate him. When he does well he looks as good as anyone in the world, but when he doesn't (which is often) he is back in the shed. Test average of 32 and FC average of 38 show his inconsistency over a long period, yet...
No doubt, but I selected them at full strength discounting injuries. Starc, Haze and Siddle should still be our starting three without injuries, and Patto can displace Siddle permanently when he shows his up to the rigours of 5 day cricket.
I literally don't rate S.Marsh at all, regardless of the fact the Aust selectors keep bringing him back. He is a fine batsman but his inconsistency means he will never succeed long term as a test bat. I love him in T20 and 50 over, hate him in the test team.

Just watched this footage. Have never understood why cops attending these events wear protective vests but not helmets.
Klinger in both XIs.
Dunk's FC stats are good this year and I've only seen him in the Big Bash. Is he really a test quality opener over someone like Bancroft though?
I don't disagree with this at all. To me the team looks better with Smith at 4 or 5 and Khawaja at 3. And I don't think it matters to much. But FTR, Smith is averaging over 70 at #3, and 63 and 66 at #4 and #5 respectively. Smith's versatility is a massive bonus to us though, because not all...
To me it's an easy shuffle to get Burns into the middle order once Usman is back. Khawaja is very capable of opening and he and Warner seem to enjoy batting together. Plus Smith makes runs whether he's at 3/4/5 so it doesn't matter where he goes.

If you don't think McGrath is amongst the greatest fast bowlers of all time you know SFA about cricket. The guy's record was unbelievable everywhere and he virtually never failed. Always got top line batsmen out. Add to this that only Walsh and Kapil played more tests as a fast bowler. Guy was...
12, DNB, 68, 47, 8, 10, 74.
Three decent middle over scores all at a good clip. Pretty much what you'd expect from an ODI batsman over six hits I'd have thought.
And why wouldn't he want to captain Australia to a WC victory? You or I would both want to if we were in his position.
