There is always a story behind those mid season coaching replacements, if you read those articles above that 35Daicos posted, it says he may resign then after they loose to Melbourne he conveniently has business that clashes with his football, so resigns the coaching and captaincy, plays one...
I am after some information about the 1926 season. It appears North Melbourne had 3 coaches, Wells Eicke (R1-3), Stan thomas (r3) and Gerry Donnelly (R5-18)

also it seems there is an assumption that...
I believe i found the Melbourne goal from the demonwiki page ( http://demonwiki.org/Round+1+1897 ) I hear it is often unreliable so glad there is a proper record of it somewhere.
The other inaccuracies come from the clubs history books, and just show how tricky the history from back then can...

This was my reply from a club contract.
The club’s official history has Tony Tyson as coach for 1920, but, like you, I had seen references on Trove to Ivo having been coach.
You can certainly say that I believe he was coach and that the records are being reviewed to confirm this. But no...

Further research has led me to discover that the name same Old's was first found in the newspaper around 1889 and the song was written by one Albert Fox of flemington and was based on an old poem they set some time Music to. Looks like it's time for me to scoure through a heap of old poems

Essendon's first VFL captain George Stuckey not only led his team to the 1897 premiership but he also won that year's Stawelll Gift in 12.2 seconds, off a handicap of 12 yards. On top of this he also played first class cricket for Victoria!
Yes just realised I was a year early.
And in a era when allegations of corruption were rampant and knowing a few weeks later Carlton would have players suspended for several years over bribery.

The same Old Essendon will have it in the...
