Ardmona gone into recess due to lack of players for 2022. There no town at Ardmona other than a few farms. Too many clubs in the Shepperton area already. The available players can help fill the gaps in some nearby clubs struggling to fill reserve / junior teams.
Walwa cound not find the 60 or so blokes needed to field two mens team apparantly. If the comp was changed to a single grade, like Northern Riverina or Millawa FL (Mildura area) then chances are they could have found the 30 players. Pity the league won’t adapt to suit the population.
East Warrnambool have gone into recess. They have struggled for playing numbers for some time, and not been able to field teams in the junior comp for the last two seasons. No ones fault, just too many clubs across Hampden and the district league for the population of Warrnambool. Pity they...
Bullioh kicked 47 goals against Cooryong.
The depressing thing is this was not the most lop sided match this weekend. That goes to Cudgewa kicking 48 goals to nil over Border Walwa. Something drastic is needed.
Agree with this, West Gippy would be better with 10 teams instead of 12. Kilcunda Bass are bottom of Seniors and not fielding teams in thirds or fourths - Dalyston not much better. Both clubs would be much more competitive in Alberton.
I think the winner of the Alberton grand final should be...
Hi folks, it is looking like the Upper Murray league is on it's last legs. Most clubs can't field reserves or juniors anymore.
So chances are maybe two combined teams from UMFL will be transferring to Tallangatta League next season. This would make 14 clubs, which is too many. So the logical...
Heard Hay are contemplating a transfer to Northern Riverina. There is just a single men’s grade (no reserves) plus netball and minimal player payments which is very sensible and would be good fit for Hay. A similar format would suit Golden Rivers. However is too radical for some so will see...
Surely it would be better having just a single grade senior comp and drop the reserves. The clubs only need to find 25 -30 players, it’s just finding 50 for two grades that’s the problem. Works well in Omeo and Northern Riverina comps.
Wakool gone for good. I fear for the future of Golden Rivers if they insist on playing Seniors & reserves. A real struggle for most clubs to find the 50 blokes needed to field two mens teams.
Rather than fold the league and have a combined TDFL club, why not drop the reserves comp instead. Most UMFL clubs can find 25-30 blokes to play. The problem is finding 50+ needed to fill two teams. One senior team per club works well in Omeo, Northern Riverina and Millewa comps.
According to the census, Undera population dropped by over a hundred in just 5 years to just 442. The primary school has only 9 boys from grade 1-6. I'm thinking in years to come a few players from Ardmona would help fill the teams - and it's only 10 mins drive away.
It's a case of not enough players in the district for the amount of clubs. They may be better off seeking a merger for next season rather than falling by the wayside.
Can help but think Nunawading would be more competitive in VAFA D4. Canterbury have prospered since they transferred a few seasons back. Only drawback would be travel to the likes of Box Hill North, Mt Lillydale & Whitehorse Reserve.
Any truth in the rumour Werribee Centrals are thinking about following Werribee Districts lead to move to WRFL. What level is Geelong District league equivalent to in WRFL? I would guess Centrals would be near the top of Div 3.
