What mergers could you foresee?
As an outsider, maybe Quambatook into Mallee Eagles (stays as ME) or else Pyramid Hill-Macorna?

Any others?

Nully and wychproof have spoken. I’d personally like to see Lalbert and Nully or Lalbert and Ultima. Boort and Quamby should have done it years ago. Macorna and Cohuna? I can see Murrabit Wandella forming a mega club if they are smart

I’d imagine Quamby’s only chance is Boort and with Boort really struggling atm their is an outside chance they can save their club. Even if it only gives them 2-3 games a year at Quamby it’s better than nothing.
Apparently Wandella are happy to go it alone in NC but it would be interesting to see a Murrabit Wandella merger. They could probably become a powerhouse of the CM. I can’t see it happening though.
Sadly it’s hard to imagine any club willing to merge with Marcona or Moulamein.
You would imagine Ultima would be looking to join a CM club. As you said Eagles, Boga and Tyntynder could all do worse.
Nully are a bit of a funny one because they are probably a fair bit stronger than all those other sides so could demand more in a merger than the rest. Wyche seem the obvious match for them but as you say even the Eagles would be a good move for them. I think it will just depend on what way they want to go and where they can get a better deal. I really hope we do see mergers rather than lose a heap of clubs for good over the next 5-6 years because clubs are too stubborn.
I’m very outside looking in but have been going to a few games out at Ultima over the last few years and the change in attitude and accepting that change has to happen is quite profound.

Quamby/Boga or lalbert
Ultima/Tyntynder (same as cricket)
Nulli/wyche
Marcorna/pyramid hill or wandella
Moula/Balranald or nyah
Murrabit/barham

I think that football in country Victoria is going to undertake some massive changes in the next five years. I believe that we are going to see the demise of the Alberton, Golden Rivers and one (or maybe two) of either Kyabram, Murray or Picola.

The Alberton league will in essence become West Gippsland's second division within twelve months, we will see GRFL teams merge and enter the Central Murray while the Goulburn Valley will have either one two-division competition (regionalised into North and South) or two district competitions below them in the Goulburn Murray region hierarchy.

We should be prepared for some of the biggest changes that country football has ever seen with a number of clubs from smaller communities around the state facing a 'merge or die' scenario.

All the Alberton clubs have applied to join the Ellinbank league from next year Ellinbank clubs have 16 days to reply. Mid Gippsland were hoping for one or two, three to apply to them but after merger got quashed Alberton clubs decided to go elsewhere

Good win for Ultima they will be pretty hard to beat this year. Nully didn't get much out of Dean Smith. I'd expect them still to be top 3 think Wandella will be in for a good Season as well.
And Ultima should get another player or two to come in as well. Sounds like they will be as strong as they ever have been so hopefully they can get the job done this year.
Smith certainly didn’t do as much as the other times I’ve seen him.
Apparently Nully had half a dozen out though so I’d say they are still favourites.

Apparently Wandella and Ultima was a cracker on the weekend. Wandella putting their hand upas a contender as well. Nullyhad a good get picking up Cam Streeter after 1 game at Mallee Eagles he was in the bestfirst up forNully on Saty.

Poor buggers are just too far from anyone, Deni way?
Heard Hay are contemplating a transfer to Northern Riverina. There is just a single men’s grade (no reserves) plus netball and minimal player payments which is very sensible and would be good fit for Hay. A similar format would suit Golden Rivers. However is too radical for some so will see clubs fold instead because they can not find the 50+ blokes needed to fill two mens teams.

In the case of the GRFL, I would have thought that having something is better than nothing.

Best option is to have seniors and reserves - but obviously that is getting harder to do.

The next best option is having seniors only as most clubs would still survive - one side is better than none. And towns like Wakool have a better chance of coming out of recess.

I reckon option three would be amalgamations - you might get your name in a merged entity's name (e.g. Wycheproof-Naraport) but then again you might not (Pirron Yallock and Irrewillippe became the Western Eagles in the Colac league).

But if the clubs and league aren't proactive and don't do something about it, then there is option four - oblivion. There are a number of examples of this on any map of Victoria. They include clubs like Korong Vale, Bunnaloo, Nowa Nowa, Invergordon and Merton that either simply ran out of steam or chose to put local rivalries ahead of future survival and rejected the idea of a merger.

At the moment I think the main problem with this league is junior numbers. Yes there are some clubs that struggle to fill reserves teams but there are over half the clubs that would be pretty happy with there reserves numbers. If you take away the reserves these clubs will loose half there numbers mostly young people not quite up to the standard for senior football or older blokes with kids coming through that you also loose from your club.
My feeling is mergers are the way to go if you want your clubs and leagues to stay viable.

Surely wandella and quamby could make a merge happen the clubs have a fairly good relationship off the feild a few local quamby boys are already their potentially join the north central league and play two maybe three games at quamby rest at wandella I'm sure wandella have the numbers on the feild and quamby could bring over some extra financial help to ensure they are a strong side

North central have hockey also. I know when leitchville gunbower were in that league the hockey side of the league weren’t real happy about having a week off every time they played them

Surely Wandella could get one. They have all of Kerang to pull from
I don’t think Wandella would be that silly considering what local numbers they have left running around out there, I think a wandella/murrabit merge would be the way to go
You would pay good money to watch a Wandella Murrabit intra club game. Would the last man standing please close the door
