The most frustrating thing was watching Brisbane doing exactly what every piece of analysis had said they would do all week - It seemed we hadn’t planned for it, and had no willingness to adapt or change our structures to shutdown the uncontested marking game that was just killing us.
I also...
Thanks. Seems we’ve made a few tweaks on and off field in the way we are going about things this year which seem to be working, so fingers crossed this is another
Think we just need to acknowledge Geelong’s masterful coaching performance - not just on the day, but across the season.
I’m not sure how widely known it is, or if it has been mentioned in this forum yet, but Chris Scott and Geelong ripped up the coaching manual at the start of the year and...
If it hasn’t been said already, big shout out to Clarke again last night. Absolutely rinsed Salem - not once did they rebound out of defence. Has added another dimension to our team since coming in, credit to him for taking the chance and the coaches identifying the value
- All round great performance. The kind of game where you feel most teams may struggle to beat us.
- Agree with the comments on Wicks here. Seems much more suited to our team over Ronke (not having a dig at Ronke)
- Thought Logan’s pressure as a key forward was incredible…just so agile...
Disappointing game to be at, and if we are honest, the better team won.
We seem to be unsuited to the SCG, with our quick ball movement and running game - much easier to defend against. In a way I’m “too optimistic” that this translates to greater success at MCG in September.
Games like today...
it was the kids in the last q (plus heeney) who got us over the line… Ronke, JMac, and also thought Campbell was huge.
Ladhams admirable in the ruck
Ziebell kicking 5 on rampe gave me real Dangerfield finals vibes from a few years back… hard to match up on.
Aside from the obvious - what an incredible night. Great to see the love for Bud from all.
For the first time in a while, our back 6 is starting to look really settled imo - McCartin brothers, Cunningham on the small, Blakey and mcinerney rebounding; rampe now free to play a role where he...
Giving a bit of love for Fox too.
This is a bloke who was delisted at the start of the year, and has fought back to be a lock in our back 6. Really hope we reward him with a contract for a few years as has been great this season.
Just smart footy - used our youth and pace around the ground and completely nullified their strengths.
Great contribution all round the ground, and best game we’ve played since Richmond.
Amartey had a really good game, created a contest every time. Looks a great mark
Like the move getting...
Seemed from watching that JMac was playing in the back 6 for a good portion of the game. He played well, but much prefer him on the wing delivering into 50
Good contest and a good game, one we could have won but didn’t.
Backline absolutely copping it here… not their best game admittedly, but the amount of games they have won for us or been on the wrong side of the I50 count is significant.
Parker was an absolute beast
Dawson, Hewett and Fox very...
Lot of ppl giving Wicks a hard time.
Whilst not his best game I agree, he had the second highest distance covered on the ground by any player (and most for swans), ranked 3rd for “pressure acts” for all swans players (behind Rowbottom and Mills) and spent almost all game time on the ground, so...
Felt we were lucky to get away with that one, even though they didn’t really dominate or deserve to win.
Anyway, take the win and move on.
Very few standouts for us - no one particularly good over the full game.
Thought Amartey looked really good - great hands, athletic and inventive in the...
Classic swans arm-wrestle.
Thought it was our youngsters at key times that lifted us - the likes of Warner, Wicks, mcinerney. Very keen to see where those 3 kids in particular can take us. Each brings something very different but hard to replicate
Cunningham had his best game I have seen -...
Probably deserved to lose really on balance, but my god that was frustrating.
First things first, I’m not sure what was worse - the umpiring or the commentary. The amount of incorrect disposals and holding the ball that weren’t paid was embarrassing. Both ways too. Just cold ball drops not...
Need to give some love to hickey and rampe too... rampe we just take for granted, but he is just one of the most consistently good players every week.
Hickey beat Grundy all on balance. Love what he is about
6-3, don’t think any of us expected this.
totally agree - his running has been huge this year and often when no one has a marking option it is him who really runs hard to create the option. Watching him at the game he ran almost half the length of the field a few times to create the option when no one else did
Fair play to dees... they are set up well and didn’t allow for any easy passages out. They were the better team, but somehow felt like we should have finished off the 4th better.
Clayton Oliver is frustratingly good at getting quick hands at the stoppage and they are out.
Crazy to think we...
i thought COR had a great game... go back and watch the second quarter and he was very good. Won about 3 one on ones and his delivery out of defence and into the forward line was really good - didn’t blaze away at all and hit the man each time.
Team high 8 intercept possessions too
I love for Hickey’s sake that he is having such a good run at it.
He’s been in the system for 12 years, 4th club... many others might have given up, but he’s stuck it out and now getting the reward. Great story about Perseverance for all - footy fans or not.
And even better that he is at the...
Had a horrible feeling going into this game this would be how it played out.
They completely torched us, credit to them. All over the ground they were better. Set up better, seemed they had an extra man up front and then 2 down back and others in the middle.
Second week in a row we have...
I think it was Florent from memory but your point is pretty valid.
GWS did well in the last to man up to almost all of our kick ins. There was not a lot of run coming from any of our players. If anything Haywood was the one presenting inside our own 50.
I’m not sure why we switched from Dawson...
Watched the game live so always a different perspective to TV... for better or worse
The SCG all of a sudden feels very small for fast ball movement. Maybe it was good coaching, or maybe it’s easier to shut down, but felt the Bombers did a good job closing us down on the whole
Buddy’s best...
Decent result in the end - only saw the second half, but exciting to build off that for next year.
All in all, I think the hubs will only serve us well in the long run. The connections made for a young group should pay back in spades in future - relationships between the players, the couch...
Best game we have played in two seasons. Every single player played their part
O’riordan - best game for the swans tonight. Good one on one, and composed with ball
Papley great with his 1%, and not trying to be the hero every play
Sinclair really good tonight.
Blakey. Credit where it is...
Good contest in the end... bounce of the call mccartin’s way and we may have pinched it.
Agree with most of the comments so far.
Wicks and Bell hit the contest hard.
Stephens has that look of confidence about him, hoping that he is one of those players who can really develop in a few years...
