Does anyone have a spare ticket to the AFL Reserve today? I am a Gold member but originally couldn't go. Now desperate to get one. I will pay face value.
I know neither team wants to seem too confident but in the modern game teams just don't lose the way Melbourne did. They weren't just outplayed. They just didn't show up. I don't think they fix that in a week like teams used to do in the 80s and 90s after a belting.
Mark Neeld. Dean Bailey (RIP) a close second.
With Neeld, he was brought in clearly to bring the playing group in line after they protested against the administration. It backfired and I've never seen a playing group more miserable. We were bad in the first year vs Roos but we at least looked...
No one gives Melbourne enough credit for margin minimisation.
Since we lost to Port in Round 9 2020, we've lost 24 games.
Only one of those has been 5+ goals.
My honest opinion is that a combination of 6-6-6 and hyper defensive deadball gameplans exemplified by Collingwood 2022-2023: absolutely kill the ball if you're not going to win clean possession going forward, and corral the ball until you're tackled. Build momentum and then kill the opposition...
Not sure if I'm losing my mind or what but this season in general has been underwhelming and uninspiring. A few good games here and there but there are more teams playing poorly than there are playing well. GWS has been a clear standout for mine.
The season started way too early, and opening...
So the issue is that the league is allowing clubs to list fake injuries. Not that it's driven by drug use.
Warner has jumped the gun here with a scattered angle. He doesn't know whether it's a drug story or a faking injuries story. Nor does he know who it inplicates.
Wilkie is talking to it as a drug problem that could compromise the sport's integrity and betting. Warner is reporting it as a scandal. They are very different angles. Of course this is the AFL's policy? What so you expect them to do if a player self-reports? Let them play?
Getting to a Prelim let alone a Grand Final is very tough. It's highly competitive. Most clubs strive for a flag but getting to a Prelim alone has significant financial benefits. A losing GF record imo isn't worth of scrutiny. Getting there is in itself a "success". IMO the scrutiny should be on...
Not against COLA but I find it interesting that it's only relevant in Australia. In the US you have significant variation in taxes and cost of living: in California for example you have a high cost of living and high income taxes but some states have no income tax at all. The main difference is...
For what it's worth, lots of murmurs from people within the club that Goodwin was uncharacteristically vocal after the Carlton game. Very loud and singled out certain players, in particular Pickett who despite playing quite well was very undisciplined.
The picture of him and the team standing...
I don't mind the bloke normally but I tried listening to his podcast and it's the most self indulgent rubbish I've ever listened to. Didn't last 5 minutes.
