    Player Watch #36 Joel Amartey

Amartey's athleticism is really shining through with an improved fitness base and confidence in his body. I once half jokingly referred to Amartey as our answer to Charlie Curnow, now I'm not so sure if I was joking. LOve seeing him making such an impact further up field

The sight of McKay and Curnow relegated to plugging holes in their defence - priceless.

Media Swans Talk in the Media 2024

The media do seem uncomfortable with being resigned to dishing out superlatives for Sydney. And a one team competition is the AFL's worst nightmare, so I'm not surprised with the way the narrative has shifted to Get the Swans. Best case: We win another flag and the next and the next, until we...

Really? Always like Bucks. He usually seems fair and thoughtful. Nothing in it but wouldn't be surprised, these things are looked at.

    Player Watch #36 Joel Amartey

That's the game we wanted. Almost a perfect follow up. Amartey drew defenders, worked bloody hard and unselfishly to set up others under tough conditions. Unlucky to miss a couple of opportunities of his own but this was an opportunity to give back to his teammates. Doesn't matter who kicks...

    Player Watch #36 Joel Amartey

Whether Amartey kicks them, McLean does or McDonald doesn't matter. I'll gladly take an even spread of midfield goals and a few Papley specials. As long as our three talls are working hard together, whether marking or bringing the ball to ground. The soft drop can be as good as the pack mark if...

I assume you meant an even better game from a key forward, but yeah, absolutely, I agree completely

IMO Sydney's advantage goes much deeper than just a lucky year for injuries or even our improved depth. Continuity is the biggest factor. It's important in any team sport and our list change (at senior level) has been minimal over the past 3-4 years. I was watched Rd 2 2021 Sydney v. Adelaide...

Media Swans Talk in the Media 2024

I agree any team is a threat, but I don't see the Pies as our biggest threat. We had a 63 point turnaround on the weekend and it barely got a mention. North have learned nothing. Teams that try to shut the shop and hang onto their lead are vulnerable to the Pies running in waves. We did too in...

That's a wind up surely. Isn't Collingwood the team that just pipped North by a point? And only with some late help from the umpires.

If the media could get any traction on this story they'd flog it to death but it's hardly a big news item. "Good player expects new contract offer towards end of next year. Other clubs doing some early tyre kicking" Yawn...the story practically writes itself.

https://www.afl.com.au/news/1154535/gws-giants-forward-max-gruzewski-to-debut-against-sydney-swans GWS are rolling out young Gruzewski for his debut against us. Looks a nice moving big unit for a 19 yr old, going by the highlights reel. Did anyone else notice how long his goal-kicking runup...

I generally like Selwood. He was a great leader for the cats and he has a lot of insight into what a team in such a strong position can do to ensure they don't fumble the big one. Even winning 24 of 25 games counts for little if that last game is a loss. We can control what we have control of...

Of course you're probably right Mighty Caeser, but I also think they're a teeny bit too keen to leave him off. It's pretty clear to anyone he's a special talent. Shooting goals off his hip from 50+ on one step. What a weapon. Glad he's backing up last year after a slower than expected start At...

  20. RubbaDuck

Media Swans Talk in the Media 2024

I have a beef with the AFL (VFL) fan survey. They list a bunch of players 21 and under and ask the question. Who do you think will be the best of these players in five years time? None of them will be better than currently 21yr old Errol Gulden, who was left off the bloody list. Seriously AFL...

    Player Watch #36 Joel Amartey

One thing our Swans boys can all be proud of is Amartey doesn't work alone. Damn, if I'd kicked nine I'd have had to wear a lead-lined bag over my head to stop my grin nuking the back rows of seats. The way Joel spread the cred to his teammates made me proud. Like Chad, Heens, Errol, Grundy and...

    Player Watch #36 Joel Amartey

I don't disagree with anyone on this. The whole footy world knows Amartey is a genuinely good forward. Let's say those who wrote Amartey off were mistaken. That's kinder. Most of those have changed their view at some point along the way and realised they were mistaken to write off a young...

Media : Pies in second greatest comeback of their history Reality : Pies scrape past AFL's weakest team by a point, and only thanks to a couple of glaring pieces of umpiring "luck" going their way. Media : "You have to love this team that always finds a way to win" Reality : Except when they...

Gee it's good to see Amartey proving his critics to be short-sighted and ignorant, heaping shit on a 28-gamer (pre-2024) who has never played a full season. To those who saw the talent and believed. Cheers. You'll find your First Class seats at the front of the Amartey train. Toot toot.

They're all around about average for set shots by key forwards but they add other dimensions too. The accuracy will come. I guess playing up the ground then running back means they're taking more set shots from long range.

Happy to sit back and watch people struggle with the only language they know. The irony is when these same folks demand that immigrants speak English. I think you'll find it's shoulda, coulda, woulda - deliberately tongue in cheek.
