That's fair - and possibly a reason we're not willing to pay out a contract. We can't know either way how much is spare in the budget. But this doesn't mitigate the fact that we are carrying some deadweight into next season because of our list management decisions.
Future picks into this draft is an option. We're not doing it, bit doesn't mean we shouldn't have cut deeper and manufactured a decent 2nd pick.
Or hell even a rookie pick on a developing ruck - we know what we're getting from strauny, burgess, and smith and a few others. There not going to...
Of course I don't know for certain it would be doable. But considering our only acquisition for 2024 was Burgess - I can't see us pushing 100% on the salary cap for 2024. But again it's more about how we have gone about managing the list to get to this point (smith trigger, burgess, signing on...
Think this is my biggest issue with this off-season. Apparently a super draft (or at least deep draft) and were only grabbing one player (plus Welsh).
Could have paid out a couple of players and had a few more cracks at this pool of players. Especially with so many picks on the table due to...
Point is you can't prove anything he did right either based on your level of proof required - same applies to most roles in footy (always someone else to blame) - so we might as well not discuss anything.
The problem with pointing to this as a key indicator of why we're at the bottom is if we had won more games our draw inherently becomes easier. I.e we beat Hawthorn and instead of playing against a top 8 team twice it would be 10th or 11th twice. We lost to Richmond at home. And 6 of the bottom...
Based on form yes - was clearly out of form early on (apologising to the group, playing on the bad back etc.) And should have been dropped sooner. Also shouldn't have been recalled when Cook was out.
Gifting him games just so he can hit a trigger is silly - especially cause there is nothing...
I think the general problem is we played every senior we could in the first half of the year and were still well out of the running. Then hanging on to players like Murphy, bringing Smith back only for him to get sick and be a late out to not return, Jones in a similar situation - when really...
Who else was held accountable for the port loss? Gallant? Would have been dropped for Tex even if we by 100+.
Literally the only person who's been hit by the selection integrity axe - and one of very few for the whole year.
And as others mention Nicks says its multiple things, Dawson says its...
Seems like another tunnel vision selection - fair chance he is delisted at the end of the season - but picked because he kicked a bunch of goals.
To be fair though not sure if we get much out of playing berg or burg either.
Honestly feel like we will come out on fire get a run at the start before WB claw it back. But think WB will run away from us in the last half before we kick some in junk time to make it respectable - Dogs by 28
Good retort. Of course we need balance and saying we haven't prioritised the youth or managed our list well enough (see playing the same 25-26 every game last year, giving games to seniors that were low on form or injured, giving games to future delistees etc.) Isn't saying drop every senior...
If experience is everything then it's about getting as many players we see as best 22 to 100 games as fast as possible.
Just by your post we'd be 20-30 games closer to our premiership window now if they played earlier. Assuming these players are part of it.
Bit of a crap game to watch and not a lot of highlights, especially when the only thing on the line is pick 4.
But seeing the kids run around and have a real crack was great. TT return was great, and hopefully fit enough for next week. Fogs monstering of the three defenders to still get it out...
It's always the argument.
People call for a kid to debut- rebuttal is they are not ready, got stuff to work on, won't be better than an incumbent.
Injury happens, they get called up. They play well then it's 'they must have been picked at the right time'.
Meaning no one has ever spent too...
Yeah feel like TT sub will be the call. With a tactical sub at half time...
Fingers crossed no injuries.
Definitely better ins than expected - but yeah that FWD line will be pretty top heavy if TT starts.
Agree 15th or 14th likely.
But finishing 15th and getting pumped by teams is different than finishing 14th with some 'honourable' losses and a couple of uninspiring wins. One might lead to a change at the top.
So Nicks will be picking for the latter option - rather than just focusing on...
Results are results. Other coaches have been sacked after being signed on the same year (we've even done it). But really its about the bigger picture for next year. Every win for him this year gives him more latitude next year.
And honestly I think if we lose enough games (and by enough), or...
