Is Gary Rohan the worst finals player of all time?

I initially thought he played a stinker. I rewatched the grand final. He was in there pressure-wise in a few stoppages. Ran up to half back. Chased players with the ball. Maybe even unlucky with the high tackle near Swan's forward line. He's another target so Cameron, Hawkins and Stengle are...

    Autopsy AFL 2021 2nd Preliminary Final - Port v Dogs Sat September 11th 7:40pm EST / 7:10pm CST (AO)

I just do not understand booing a player who has outclassed your team. The booing in the first quarter was just immature. Where I am from, you only boo dirty play. If you are beaten fair and square, you can't "boo".

Toby Greene makes contact with umpire - Update: Suspension Increased to 6 weeks on Appeal

Fining a multimillionaire anything less than a million dollars is unlikely to have any impact on their behaviour. He wouldn't even notice the impact of these fines if they all came at once. Given they are spread out over years, it would be like dropping a few coins down the back of the couch.

Toby Greene makes contact with umpire - Update: Suspension Increased to 6 weeks on Appeal

Agreed. He's a dirty rat of a player. I cringe when people say "everyone loves Toby". I don't. It's not punching people face to face, it's scratching and kicking. It's funny that Greg Williams came up as an early case of interfering with an umpire. He was as dirty as they come too. Although...

Toby Greene makes contact with umpire - Update: Suspension Increased to 6 weeks on Appeal

Three weeks is generally pretty soft but given it is finals and the AFL love bailing out stars at this time of year, it's pretty severe.

Toby Greene makes contact with umpire - Update: Suspension Increased to 6 weeks on Appeal

He won't get rubbed out. It's the finals. It's Toby Greene playing for interstate club. If it was a nobody playing for the Bulldogs or even Geelong, sure, the AFL would rub him out. Greene is an absolute grub and unlike many, I don't like to see him play at all. But this is finals and there is a...

Players who have gone on one year too long

I would have said Buddy Franklin (and probably did over the last few years) but a couple of years of doing nothing seem to have paid off and he's been good when I watched him this year. Will be interesting to see what happens going forward.

Players who have gone on one year too long

I thought of him. I am just not sure of his role at Geelong. He was a mature head at the kangaroos. Geelong has enough old guys. Higgins was also smooth with the ball when many around him were not. At Geelong, plenty of accurate kicking. If he played well against Carlton...no big deal. When he...

    Past #13: Jared Polec - delisted end '21 - redrafted w/ #1 in '21 RD - re-delisted end '22 - 42 NM games/20 NM goals

How long was he on the field? I'd say it was half way through the final quarter. In that time, three tackles, three possessions. What evidence does BT provide? A picture of a player with folded arms. I'm not saying he's gold but this criticism is utterly pointless and baseless.

Game Day Collingwood v GWS Giants - Preliminary Finals — Sat 21 Sep, 4:35PM AEST, MCG

I'm not kidding because I was just asking a question, not arguing. Thanks for the explanation.

Game Day Collingwood v GWS Giants - Preliminary Finals — Sat 21 Sep, 4:35PM AEST, MCG

I just watched it and couldn't see the touch. I'm not saying it wasn't there. I was just curious.

Was the last kick out on the full?

The AFL should just make suspensions only applicable during the H/A season

I assume this is rhetoric. The current system is stupid. However, allowing any offences to go without the pretence of punishment would be insane: melee: umpire calls for players to stop. No way, Razor Ray. Twenty minute punch on. champion with the ball: head high forearm to the head. champion...

Live Event Toby Greene fronts the tribunal - Suspension appeal

I'm not really sure why anybody would like what Toby Greene did. I'm not even sure why anybody would defend him, even if you barrack for GWS. To be sure, the tribunal is a joke but why waste your keyboard demanding a different outcome. He was a grub. He didn't learn. If the pathetic AFL finals...

Live Event Toby Greene fronts the tribunal - Suspension appeal

Agreed. I'm tired of these footy "experts" (not just Carey, Russell, McClure, Maher and on it goes) waxing lyrical about Toby Greene "playing close to the line". From where I sit, it is so far off the line. Nic Nat slamming somebody in the course of play is close to the line. Stewart slamming...

Live Event Toby Greene fronts the tribunal - Suspension appeal

In a nutshell: - last week's incident was worse - there is no excuse for grabbing at the face - Greene (in each case) looks around to see if he can get away with it (it seems he forgets about cameras) - I'd have more respect for Nic Nat body-slamming me or Tom Hawkins hitting me than I would for...

Live Event Toby Greene fronts the tribunal - Suspension appeal

No doubt that this is a finals penalty. $7500 is nothing for someone like Greene. He clearly scratched and grabbed at Bont's head and pulled his hair. He looks to see who is watching then does it again. It was just dirty; you can't argue against that. With his record, he should be out for three...

    Season without a tied game

I count 28. Nevertheless, 1 in 4 is surprising. This century, we're running slightly under. None in the nineties but over-represented in the eighties. Do you know the season with the most draws?

    Season without a tied game

I think I put this in the wrong spot. I assume this place is better. So many close games this season but all decided in the end. It seems hard to find statistics about this (at least for me, I am putting it out there because I am sure some of you know). When did it last happen that there was no...

    Analysis Season without a draw

So many close games this season but all decided in the end. It seems hard to find statistics about this (at least for me, I am putting it out there because I am sure some of you know). When did it last happen that there was no tied match in an AFL season? How often does it happen?

Was this the best Grand Final of all time

I think the AFL needs to look at the award system as everything (bar the Coleman) is for midfielders. If I was to pick a team in the old high school fashion, I'd be picking McGovern over anybody else on that team (although Kennedy is right up there as a forward target). His importance cannot...

Was this the best Grand Final of all time

I reckon they were about the best team I have seen. They didn't have a weak link. I think it was 2004 when they pounded St Kilda in a final. I've never seen anything like it.
  25. R

Was this the best Grand Final of all time

Yes, they kept the door open for Collingwood. 2003 was a better representation of their mastery.

Was this the best Grand Final of all time

That is why I would probably pick the Brisbane Lions wins against Collingwood. The Brisbane team from the early 2000s was an absolute treat to watch. Such flowing play. I know the Swans / Eagles games were close but the football skills were not as appealing.

Was this the best Grand Final of all time

I thought McGovern's mark was better. A Leo Barry moment. Ryan was amazing though. The whole passage will be etched into many memories.

Autopsy AFL 2018 - Grand Final - West Coast v Collingwood

I think McGovern was pretty amazing. Whilst a lot of focus is on Sheed at the other end, it all started with McGovern. What a mark at a crucial point in the game.

2018 Brownlow Medal - Congrats Tom Mitchell.

Yes. I based my belief on just two incidents. Other than those, I had no reason whatsoever. As I said, I apologise for my spurious claim and concede. No, in fact I agree with Clarkson that Hawthorn are treated very badly and understand his decision to go directly to Gil. It was perfectly...

https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/brownlow-medal-2018-who-polled-the-most-votes-at-your-afl-team-clubbyclub Worth a look. Most votes go to Collingwood, then Melbourne then Hawks, then Cats. The probable grand final result (Magpies win) may validate this score in part but partly askew with the...
