Opinion Richmonds future direction with Hardwick

Fair enough :), but he's not quite done there yet. Let's see what happens. In any case, I think he would have done a lot better with the Tiges.

Debate - Do you think Damien Hardwick is ruining Jack Riewoldt's instinct and game winning ability?

You have to kick goals to win games. Hobbling your best goal kicker doesn't help do that. I understand the need to spread it around, but when a guy is wins the Coleman two out of three years, where is the logic in reducing his ability kick goals in favour of some theoretical idea that we need...

Opinion Richmonds future direction with Hardwick

This is what I think. He's into his fourth year. Not that long back (say last year) a lot of people were saying we had a very solid side, if not the makings of a great side. Either a lot of people misjudged the depth of talent, or somewhere along the line over the last 12 months, things have...

Debate - Do you think Damien Hardwick is ruining Jack Riewoldt's instinct and game winning ability?

No, just wish Jack was playing like he did three or four years ago.

Opinion Richmonds future direction with Hardwick

The Tiges will never win a premiership under Hardwick, unfortunately.

    Wallsy Doing His Thing

Seems to me Vossy had a fair run. He had five years and they finished semi-finalists in his first year, then 13th, 15th, 13th and 12th. This would be doomsday for almost any other coach. He was sacked. Why would you bring back a sacked coach with that record?

    Wallsy Doing His Thing

"Could a 17th premiership be a possibility? You never know. The footy gods are smiling." Read more: http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/blues-fans-can-dare-to-dream-of-a-flag-20130606-2nsii.html#ixzz2e00sVVIT

    Wallsy Doing His Thing

Wallsy's off in La La Land again. First, it was how great a coach Buckley is going to be, and now he wants to bring back Vossy. Note to The Age: Please stop paying this bloke to write rubbish.

Goodbye Carltank - dont let the door hit judd's face....

Ah, nothing like the gratitude of a Collingwood supporter. 1998-14th, 1999-16th, 2000-15. Three years later under Malthouse, Grand Finalists. Four Grand Finals from 2000 to 2011. First premiership in 20 years.

The Duck says we will not make finals next year

Some Carey magic: 1)"A surer bet is Sydney winning back-to-back premierships. Reigning premiers rarely start the following season well and so it was with the Swans, this year. But after that sluggish start, they are hitting their straps and now I can’t see anyone beating them."...

    Malthouse or Dimma?

All fair points. Replacing anyone with Sheeds would have been a terrible move. Nothing would make me happier than for this thread to be bumped in a couple of years with heaps of "you were wrong" posts. Only time will tell, I guess.

A Collingwood Football Club Tragedy Part 1

Essendon (sub Collingwood, Brisbane) people can't afford to be wrong about their love for him. Those that idolise him have invested their pride and hearts in it, and to stop believing in Hird (sub Buckley, Voss) is to stop believing in the part of themselves they have given. It means trashing...

    Malthouse or Dimma?

Great work mate. Almost as long as my post :) A couple of points. One, to compare Malthouse to Wallace is ridiculous. Two, you say " The answer is simple... "name" coaches don't sign to develop teams, they sign for the here and now." Collingwood finished 14, 16 and 15 in the three years...

    Malthouse or Dimma?

Amazing. So are you saying that you wouldn't rate the coach if Richmond had reached four grand finals in the 2000s? Nonsense. Buckley cost them the 2011 GF, not Malthouse.

    Malthouse or Dimma?

Four grand finals from 2000 to 2010 is also a fact. Our grand final appearances in the same period?

Okay, thanks for your response. Appreciate it.

    Malthouse or Dimma?

Okay, I thought you meant three different clubs. I'm not bagging Dimma. I think he has done a great job. And I think he is improving. He may well turn out to be a coaching legend. But he's not one yet. Let's see. I think by any objective measure, Malthouse is a coaching legend. I guess...

A Collingwood Football Club Tragedy Part 1

Nope, not bulllshit. I did address this in Part 3, but then I guess you never actually read it. Here it is again. "But let’s give Eddie and Nathan a bit of leeway here. Perhaps in 2009, Eddie sensed that Mick was coming to the end of his tenure. Probably a false conclusion, but let’s say he...

    Malthouse or Dimma?

Three teams? I don't know how you can say he is overrated. Every coach needs decent players and good admin. Are you saying Dimma would be a great coach with crap players and a shoddy admin? Are you also saying Leigh Matthews doesn't know what he is talking about?
  20. T

A Collingwood Football Club Tragedy Part 1

I guess you didn't read it. Buckley might prove to be a great coach. We'll see. The point was it takes some deluded self belief to effectively have a coaching legend kicked out after just having taken the team to grand finals, because you believe you can do better (despite never having coached...

A Collingwood Football Club Tragedy Part 1

TFR :) Part 4 (The End) As a Tiges fan, I should be deleriously happy at what should be Collingwood supporters' fury. However, I believe that, with Eddie McGuire’s massive error of judgement, the Richmond FC may have missed a golden opportunity. An opportunity to develop a list that shows...

    Malthouse or Dimma?

I guess we'll see if Malthouse is passed it. I was talking about two years ago. Ridiculous to compare Sheedyto Malthouse in 2011. He had just taken Collingwoodd to back-to-back grand finals. Don't see how you could say he was passed it then. "His record is actually very ho hum"- two...

    Malthouse or Dimma?

I love Dimma too. I hope he gets us there. Only time will tell. I just think if you went back to 2011 and said who is more likely to get us to a Grand Final, Malthouse would have been the better bet.
  24. T

    Malthouse or Dimma?

I agree that Benny and Dimma have done an amazing job. I love Dimma as a bloke, like most people. He is obviously improving as a coach in all areas. I guess my point is that Malthouse, as Leigh stated in his book, is one of the best two coaches of the last 40 years. Two years ago, he still...

    Malthouse or Dimma?

This is Part 4 (and the final part) of my tremendously popular thread, "A Collingwood Football Club Tragedy" in the Bay 13 section. Essentially, the thread put forward the view that by shafting Malhouse for Buckley, Eddie blew apart any chance of Collingwood establishing a Geelong/Brisbane type...

A Collingwood Football Club Tragedy Part 1

Okay, okay, settle down. Keep your pants on. Here it is, the much anticipated part 3. :) Of course, we know Buckley refused to do this. Due to his incredible self belief, or self delusion, he actually convinced himself he could do a better job than Malthouse. He didn’t step aside in 2011...

What has Glenn McFarlane been smoking?

Two of my personal favourites are Wallsy and Lyon. These two are experts at writing the bleeding obvious and almost never revealing anything insightful or original. An insult to readers of The Age. Lazy, arrogant, "journalism".

    How important is Lids?

Yeah, that is similar to what I was thinking. He has fallen away a bit, but the other guys have improved out of sight this year, and he is not quite as crucial as he was in the past. A nice position to be in, really. Now we just need to see them continue on for the forseeable future, and not...

A Collingwood Football Club Tragedy Part 1

Due to popular demand :) , part 2. TLDR Warning!! Will Nathan Buckley be a champion coach? He could be, and Wallsy’s prediction will come true. But even if Buckley does turn out to be a premiership coach, he will almost certainly not return to the Collingwood Football Club, that which...
