Magpies more than some other clubs also seem to have a stronger reliance on their NEAFL guys. Seems like there weren't many of those on the weekend either? If any?
Dress it up all you like outandabout, you stacked your side via permits from another club who had a bye. You didn't just get blokes to make up numbers, you got Div 1 players from a senior side at another club that directly improved your chances of winning artificially.
All the other variables...
You're right, I (we?) wouldn't
But I do know you did pay them. How much, hardly anyone would ever know. The point is that the Siders have often liked to pretend they paid nothing, when they did pay something. How much? sounds like only you and the players concerned would know (which is the...
Making claims that you were the lowest paying club suggests you have intimate knowledge of what other clubs were paying.
If you're doing all the player contracts, that suggests every player was paid?
Nobody would ever suggest Morningside paid like Southport - but the old claim that Morningside...
Couple of upsets in Div 4 on Friday, really opening up heaps of possibilities with the final 4 and placings.
Woodies would be kicking themselves dropping the game against Morningside, given they could have gone top of the ladder with a win.
Then even bigger surprise was Sandgate comfortably...
Promotion relegation will have little impact on this comp, but this was always going to be the best and most competitive compeition under the new structure.
Bond will be relegated for the winner of Div 2, likely Aspley, Moreton or maybe Kenmore an outside show and that winner will go up to Div...
Groundhog day.
Sandgate early ladder leaders, chirping all over the place - unpopular with other clubs (and their own?)
Now falling apart and getting beaten easily.
If each team has 5 or 6 standouts, then drop off rapidly - then one would think the addition of a few standout players to any team would massively improve their team.
Ormeau are essentially being treated as the bye by most clubs, resting good players, giving blokes a go etc and they are still...
Not much chat about the top of the table clash in Div 4 tonight. Clash of the titans!
Would think Zillmere at home too strong, but the Woodsmen travel well. If they kicked straight earlier in the year, they probably win that one.
Had a peak at sportingpulse, both teams have a few outs who...
Content and ferocity in equal measure. also the fact that the kenmore boys were all talking about it when they came out for the 2nd half instead of focussing on their own game.
The bake worked too, as they banged on a few quick ones when they came out for the 3rd quarter and were never headed...
Watched the Bears vs Roos on Saturday in an extremely entertaining game, with the Roos just holding them out.
Really see-sawing game, Roos would kick ahead, then the Bears would peg 2 or 3 back and it would be on. Roos would then break the stalemate and, Bears would fight back - but apart from...
Have to wonder what Daniel Stubbs was doing playing and Daniel Pigliacelli must have been up here on holidays?
Having said that, if 2 ring ins can create a 10 goal victory against the Park Ridge all-stars - something is seriously wrong.
According to sportingpulse though, those were the only 2...
I think the issue is that sunny coast footy really thrives on local derbies between Noosa, Caloundra and Maroochydore.
Doesn't matter which one of those 3 teams you put up into the QAFL, you will then create a pseudo rep team for the area and the local derbies lose their lustre.
Put Noosa in...
QAFL and Div 1 are wide open, even for finals places - not just the flag.
Div 2 the final 5 is set already, but who wins it is anyones guess - could come from any of the Top 4 imo. There is a clear best 4 sides, then the rest are pretty average.
Div 3 is a 3 team competition already, but...
the best Div 4 sides would beat half the Div 3 senior sides, not just their reserves.
Huge jump between Div 2 and 3 this year though, all the Div 2 senior teams would smash Div teams
Woodies stacked their team in the QAFL bye by the looks of it, with Alex Dickfos and Riley Easton playing. No wonder they switched to being the Magpies.
Dickfos in particular has kicked 130 odd QAFL goals in the last 2 seasons. I imagine the senior coach isn't impressed with risking him?
Peck and Davidson both played NEAFL Footy, and both changed clubs too often.
Peck played Juniors at Magpies, then went to Vultures to play U/16's and then back to Magpies for U/18's. He spat the dummy he didn't get a senior game for a dominant premiership side, so went back to Mt Gravatt...
There are dozens of ex QAFL/NEAFL footballers from QLD backgrounds playing all over the country in VFL, SANFL, WAFL and even the O&M.
The suggestion that the clubs don't do anything for these kids is laughable. Some of them are just chasing coin, others are trying to play the highest level...
12 goals at the Bears from the coach (who wasn't going to play) and the big forward who leaves in a few weeks.
Fair to say they have some issues kicking a score without these blokes!
this joint is a love in since the Redbacks folded. Are there any rivalries or grudges left in either competition? (Except of course everyone still hating Sandgate)
any goss on what old "Toots' was up to?
Certainly a fairly strongly worded statement from UQ regarding his departure, not much attempt to sugarcoat it as a mutual!
