I've heard Grange are done. They won't win another game based on some of the exits out of the place and the turmoil of the senior group.

the boys from Chelmer would be filthy they lost to them twice early in the year when they were up and going, then get us twice coming home when we're up and going!

When the response from a 10 goal loss to the bottom side is a 100 point loss, then clearly things aren't going great. Don't want to say too much though, we play them in a couple of weeks.

That's why the 5 looks set ( the top 3 up for grabs though) as the bottom couple are too far adrift and 6th place magpies have a tough draw home, and grange in 7th are battling.

Certainly interesting that Ryan Holman was released from Aspley to Morningside this week when Aspley had a bye. Holman has played 14 NEAFL games this year, including the last 4 in a row.

However, the suite of Aspley listed Magpies (including some short of a gallop) weren't allowed to play for us despite being keen to do so. Would have been helpful too given injury/unavailability striking at a bad time the last fortnight.

I'd love to know how this happened?

Aspley would have made this call as will Redlands this week. Which players need more game time, who to rest who to play etc..Only rule would be a NEAFL player who played NEAFL the week before must play QAFL seniors.
Redland predicament this week is Morningside side have a bye.

So the top 5 looks set, it's just a matter of what order the other 4 finish, Labrador will finish on top.

Apparently Maloney has done a runner from Wilston Grange n headed back to his old club in Vic.

How is the Top 5 set?

Broady or Vultures could easily drop out.

Western magpies is the only team who could overtake one of them but won't after losing on Saturday & they will need to improve fast to beat Surfers this week if Surfers field a decent team.

Winner of Mt.Gravatt v Broadbeach this Saturday will keep their chance of finishing 3rd alive.

Has played last 2 game for South Warrnambool. Lost his job in the Simon Black debacle, moving into player management in Melbourne.

If Maggies win this week, they are likely straight back in the 5. the Panthers game the week before was up for grabs, but injury and unavailability hurt them.

Get something remotely close to best 22 to pick from in the weeks to come, and the Maggies are every chance to push straight back in.

Certainly would have preferred to play Grange twice late in the year than early, given what looks like has happened there. Quirk in the draw certainly hurt us there!

Who was missing Thommo? I asked a couple of your supporters Saturday if the magpies were undermanned and they said there were a couple out but not that many

Some blokes won't be back at all due to season enders, but on the weekend they were missing:

Lewis, Ielasi, Hunt, Copland, Maricic, Fletcher who essentially are all automatic best 22. (Or have been, i don't pick the side!) Lewis and Ielasi have been our best this year by a mile. Previous week, Val Pope was out as well.

Then a few others who are fringe players, which pulls guys up from the 2s.

You only have to look at how our ressies have gone the last 2 weeks to see how our depth is being tested. 5 colts backed up for the 2s on the weekend.

The team is extremely young, so when you take that experience out, the impact is magnified.

A few expected back in the last 5 weeks, so anything can happen. We certainly don't see the 5 as 'set'

Magpies more than some other clubs also seem to have a stronger reliance on their NEAFL guys. Seems like there weren't many of those on the weekend either? If any?

Might be a struggle for Broadbeach tommorrow against the Vultures as that have 6 of their top 10 players out. eg, Shreeve,Brewer, Burton, Ellis, Palmer, and Sansbury.

Always find it interesting when teams are quick to highlight who they have out.
Think Maggies just lack depth like most teams and Broady only marginally better - Picked up some handy in-season recruits in Mcmahon, Sansbury and Spackman.
Still maybe a few twist and turns to come in the next few weeks.

One thing we can hang our hats on at Surfers is the consistent effort from the playing group. Have said before but we are well coached and the young guys are having a first class dip each week. Very excited about this weeks game.

Whilst we all agree the NEAFL has some flaws with academies, AFL teams etc - I think it would be ignorant to suggest the QAFL is at an ideal stage as well.
No salary cap and Academy/NEAFL selections affecting a few clubs dramatically.
Have not heard anything about a salary cap to be brought in next year after it was raised earlier in the season.
Points system is mickey mouse - a salary cap is needed in my opinion or a few clubs need to make way possibly.

Speaking of academy's young Max Spencer is making his debut for the Suns tomorow night.

Great effort after playing in he qalf grand final last year to getting rookied and now debuting all within a year.

That's 3 palmy boys to debut for suns in 2 years

would be incredibly frustrating for a footy club to have so many players going in and out irrespective that the players themselves benefit from it. Will be interesting in 2018 when the VFL development comp is removed as to how those top tier suburban / country comps find having their better players being taken away from them every other week potentially. I suppose the only saving grace is that the spread might be thinner across a greater number of teams rather than concentrated across 2-3?
