There's more to it than that. His inconsistency is the reason why people don't rate him. When he does well he looks as good as anyone in the world, but when he doesn't (which is often) he is back in the shed. Test average of 32 and FC average of 38 show his inconsistency over a long period, yet...

I literally don't rate S.Marsh at all, regardless of the fact the Aust selectors keep bringing him back. He is a fine batsman but his inconsistency means he will never succeed long term as a test bat. I love him in T20 and 50 over, hate him in the test team.
