The Smashing Pumpkins: a Top 30

Yeah, Cupid De Locke is a nice little track. Oceania always seemed a little disjointed to me, it's an okay track but it's not one that makes we reach for the repeat button like much of the rest of the album. Glad you love it though!

The Smashing Pumpkins: a Top 30

    1. Galapogos (Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness - 1995) As is often the case my number one song is one of the deeper cuts. This is the song that has kept me going back to Mellon Collie for over two decades, just a beautiful track with powerful lyrics open to interpretation. Well, there...

The Smashing Pumpkins: a Top 30

    2. Mayonaise (Siamese Dream - 1993) My top two are pretty much equal and on any given day either could be number one, so just to be different I'll slot Mayonaise into second spot. The standout track from a truly phenomenal album, a masterpiece on every level. No more promise no more sorrow No...

The Smashing Pumpkins: a Top 30

    3. The Fellowship (Teargarden by Kaleidyscope vol 2 - 2010) My fav Teargarden track is just a glorious layer of sound built on top of an insane synth riff. Pretty catchy chorus too.

    4. One Diamond, One Heart (Oceania - 2012) Oceania just keeps on giving, this track is a masterpiece both musically and lyrically. A pure love song accompanied by some awesome guitar and a killer synth sound. Shame it's only 3:50, lucky I've got a repeat button.

The Smashing Pumpkins: a Top 30

    5. Eye (Lost Highway Soundtrack - 1997) Unfortunately Eye got hidden away on a soundtrack and thus has gone under the radar of many. It sounds bloody awesome whether it's in its recorded electronica influenced version, played with a big guitar sound or just to piano backing. A massively...

    Cold Chisel 30-1

Flame Trees is a clear no.1 for me. It has a timeless quality that not too many songs achieve, IMO one of the best Aussie songs ever written. Bow River, When the war is Over and Khe Sanh are all right up there too. My one fav from left field would be Ita, love the Chisel sense of humour.

The Smashing Pumpkins: a Top 30

    10. Tom Tom (Teargarden by Kaleidyscope Vol 2 - 2010) I really love this track, it's just a beautifully crafted piece of music. As is often the case Billy's lyrics here are more than a little esoteric but, hey, whatever. Sha la la la la. 9. Ava Adore (Adore - 1998) 8. Today (Siamese Dream -...

    15. Neverlost (Zeitgeist - 2007) I'm not a great fan of Zeitgeist but it does contain a hidden gem. 14. Glissandra (Oceania - 2012) I have no idea what this song is about, but damn if it don't sound awesome. 13. Hummer (Siamese Dream - 1993) 12. A Stitch in Time (Teargarden by...

    20. One and All (We Are) - (Monuments to an Elegy - 2014) The standout track from Monuments, this one rocks... 19. Perfect (Adore - 1998) Some great lyrics from Billy here and some pretty handy music to go with it. 18. The Celestials (Oceania- 2012) So many layers to this one, strings...

The Smashing Pumpkins: a Top 30

    25. Panopticon (Oceania 2012) Oceania is just such a great sounding album, the rhythm section really kill it on this one. 24. The Tale of Dusty and Pistol Pete (Adore - 1998) 23. Crestfallen (Adore - 1998) Just a stunningly beautiful track with some pretty amazing lyrics, well, they...

The Smashing Pumpkins: a Top 30

Well thirty-one, if it's good for the goose... I couldn't leave either of these tracks out so in the end why not cheat? ;) Equal 30. Rocket (Siamese Dream - 1993) Whir (Pisces Iscariot - 1994) Whir is the stand out track from Pisces Iscariot for mine. Clearly it didn't fit the tone of Siamese...

The Smashing Pumpkins: a Top 30

Cheers mate, It's fair to say unlike you I'm not much into the heavier, grungier stuff that dominated much of Mellon Collie. That said, I think Siamese dream is an absolute masterpiece, just grungy enough. :) Oceania is a ripper album too, it really reignited my passion for the Pumpkins. Anyway...

The Beatles 20 to 1 (non singles)

Something was a single. I'm sure it would be very high on the list if it wasn't! I often tend to have a couple of the less obvious at the top and that seems to be true on this occasion too. A quick top ten would go something like this: 10. With a Little Help From My Friends 9. Nowhere Man 8...

The Smashing Pumpkins: a Top 30

Man, it's amazing how we can both love a band but have vastly different favs. Three of my top five didn't make your list at all and only thirteen of my top thirty are in yours. Just wondering if you mind me adding my list to this thread or if you'd prefer I opened a new thread. I just think...

The Smashing Pumpkins: a Top 30

Great song, always interesting to see which deep cuts make it to the top of these lists. It comes in at no. 24 for me so plenty of love from over here too. As far as the lyrics are concerned, well, I have no clue either.

The Smashing Pumpkins: a Top 30

Damn, you really do love Mellon Collie! With four to go my top thirty only has ten songs in common with yours but then I was never a massive fan of Mellon Collie so no major surprise. Fascinated by what will make up the top four. Are there any surprises to come?...

    Definitive albums

Haha, yeah some pretty awful tracks in the middle there for sure. Invisible wasn't bad but let's face it they've probably only come up with a handful of songs in the last 15 years that have come even close to what they were doing at their best. Still, the sheer quality of music they did make...

The Smashing Pumpkins: a Top 30

Interesting, I know it's a fav out there but I put together my top thirty over the weekend and it just missed the cut. Music really is so personal. My list is completely different to DIG's thus far so it will be interesting to see how many of the top ten we have in common.

No love for One Angry Dwarf and 200 Solemn Faces? That's the standout track for mine, along with Kate. I suspect they will grow on you over time. Awesome album, happy to see you appreciated it.

The Smashing Pumpkins: a Top 30

Yeah, we all have our favourites, and will defend them to the end of the Earth. A little gentle ribbing is fine though I reckon. At the end of the day music is bloody awesome and that's why we're here, to celebrate it.

The Smashing Pumpkins: a Top 30

Damn, that's about as left field as I could have possibly imagined. If you'd given me a hundred guesses I still wouldn't have come close. That said, I'm sure you'd say the same about some of the tracks I'd have high on my list. Also, we're down to 12 already? I'm thinking this should have been a...

    Grinspoon 20-1

I'm not a big Grinspoon fan by any means, a lot of their stuff is just a tad too heavy for my liking. No surprise that She's Leaving Tuesday is my favourite track then I guess. I'm only really familiar with their early 2000's stuff but your choice for no.1 is a pretty great track. Thanks for the...

Okay, now you're just taking the piss. I managed to just forgive you for leaving When the War is Over out of the top ten but Flame Trees. Wow. Both top five IMHO.
