Cant see why Gold Coast would give up a guaranteed star at pick 2 for two 'maybes' lower in the pecking order unless they were guaranteed Walsh, a walkup starter for them next year, which they desperately need. As such, I reckon any downgrade deal would involve us receiving 3 (not 2) and a 2nd...
Think it a mental thing with JR. He's a big unit, who is a true athlete with good skills...Ratts and co wouldn't persist with him otherwise...they are not stupid. He just needs some confidence.
Add some more kilos over the preseason and he will be a very imposing figure. Already, he showed...
If I was Melbourne, I would run around saying we will give Fremantle pick 17 right up until lodgement time and then loose the paper work before the deadline...ooooppss....so sorry!
Seems like we have Hadley who is a similar player. Would Harris be better? Also have Bentick as back up.
Re: Judd, I actually love the role he is playing now. Sure he's not as flashy and eye grabbing, but he is virtually unstoppable in the middle. The other thing, if he continues to develop...
Fisher's biggest problem this year was that he was pushing too far about the ground, where he has neither the physicality to impose himself on a contest, the speed to run away from players or the kicking skills to do much damage. He should be played out of the goal square, playing a foil to a...
Sorry for slow response...been away.
It will depend on the draft, but pick 6 is not necessarily a Monty to get a star...Russel was pick 7 and wouldn't be better than those two players combined. Whereas trading for Lonergan (a strong tall) and Primsmall for more midfield depth, would make us...
Yeah...we should turn the screws to put some salary cap pressure...should make poaching some of their other players easier :)
Would they give us Prismall and Lonergan for our first pick?
I think we need a stop gap...especially as a Ackland is going. I hope Jacobs get promoted...and maybe recruit another ruckman on the rookie list. But we need a guy ready to compete - like Cloke - in case of injury. If Cloke and one of the other kids get injured next year, we'll be screwed!!!!
Thinks Setanta can still play in important role.
The main role I see him playing is on the gorillas. Unfortunately, due to sickness earlier this year, people forget how strong he can be...and how quick for his size he is.
Another thing, with ruckman increasingly being rested in the...
I like his endeavour and flexibility...can take a grab and exert his presence.
Have to think about what happens if Kreuzer or Hampson get injured too...these young ruckman can do their knees and never come good...I'd be keeping him even if we pick up another ruckman...other teams have the...
Only way I would considering it was if we were getting a very good CHF or ruckman. I think we have several players who should be able to fill out the tall backman roles now - Jamison, Walker, Waite, Bower, Setanta, Bannister, Austin (coming along well). Not saying he is crap...I think he he a...
We are hitting the end of the season with a nearly full list - with the likes of Bower, Houlihan, Hadlee - maybe returning, Judd coming into full form and guys like Walker running into match fitness...anything is possible!
I think he was told to get out of Fev's way...that meant he was floating around in parts of the ground where he is not familiar...and where he's foot speed is a real issue. I would have him leading out of the goal square along with Fev...either leading to the other side...or maybe starting to...
Might also have something to do with our recruiting too...
Seemed there was a definite focus on getting athletic guys with elite repeated sprint scores - and good endurance - in recent drafts. Guys like Russell, Grigg, Anderson, Benjamin, Bower, Walker and a few others were all in the elite...
Not sure if its the best idea...but remember reading some comments at the start of last year about how he is an extremely good lead and pretty straight kick...he is 196cm after all and fully matured physcially...if he's kicking bags of goals in the VFL he might be worth a try at CHF...at long as...
Re: Ackland...give him one more chance.
It all starts in the middle...if the ruckman is half-arsed it affects the morale of the rest of team. For this reason, Cloke is a real loss...plays hard and inspiring football at least...if not always winning the hitout.
So although we are desperate...
Also, I really love Ratten's comment ' anyone looks out of their depth if they don't compete.' Nice way of saying to Russel in front of an audience we think you are good enough if you back yourself and compete.
The coaching staff have a good understanding of each players strengths and weaknesses...so they must think Russell has larger upside than a speedy, tough but unskillful Armfield or all the rest of the younger kids...I think given his game last week, the experiment with Russell deserves a couple...
I think it mainly confidence. Seems to make the mistakes when he is under the least pressure...bit like Bannister used to. However, when he has no time and reacts instinctively, he seems to dispose of it pretty well and make better decisions.
If it is a confidence issue, he has all the tools...
I would include Ohailpin just for the flexibility he provides...can help in the ruck, can man up both talls and smalls in the back half and can even be pushed to FF if a matchup presents itself.
Similar to what other are saying, but with the changing strengths of our team I think we need a slight change of game plan. In the past, we were a little undersized and struggling in the centre square. Added to that, we were generally pretty crap, so we just played attacking football to teach...
