One of the things I look for in a player is the ability to both accumulate possessions and hit the scoreboard. A measure of this is the number of 20-possession, 2-goal games a player can register in a season. I expect Harley Reid to become prolific in this respect.
To put things in perspective...
If Joe Daniher retires, will Brisbane need a new forward/ruck who likes missing set shots? Bailey Williams, come on down…

I went to buy a bar of chocolate for $3 today. But the bar of chocolate insisted that Coles should be adequately compensated, and that a $5 note should be involved.
I'm OK with that, so long as I get a shiny $2 coin as change.
McQualter will know whether Oliver is a fundamentally decent bloke who has some issues, but with support can return to his status as a top-10 player in the competition. My suspicion is that he will actually know that Oliver is poison for a list.
Maybe we'll get Petracca instead.
My preferences for the Baker trade, in order:
1. 3 for 6 and Baker
2. 23 for Baker
3. 13 for 21 and Baker
4. 13 for Baker
I think sliding from 3 to 6 won't cost us a good midfielder, even if we have to pick Murphy Reid against his preferences, but sliding back from 13 will cost us a good player...
Pick 13 is a real sweet spot in this draft. Travaglia, Lindsay, Berry, Tauru. Come to think of it, there’s a lot of value at 23. I’d happily draft Moraes or Gross with that pick. Basically, I want Baker for peanuts only.

This is Jackson's one-wood. Beating up on second rucks who are less athletically gifted, or tiring first rucks. And taking marks inside 50 when defended by rucks who aren't defenders. He's a handy player - provided you already have a first ruck and two key forwards.
I’m pretty confident we melted just as hard last year over hypothetical pick 1 trades, and the year before over pick 2. We’re just really good at it.

Surely his reason for moving can't be for a guarantee of senior games. No club can offer him that. The best he'd get is a 2-year offer to sit on a list as depth, rather than the 1 year he's got left on his contract at Port. I'm happy enough to take him at the Eagles under those conditions, and...
He's quick enough and athletic enough, yet somehow doesn't use those attributes effectively in defensive contests, whether playing on a tall or medium forward. His kicking is fine, in that he makes few mistakes, but that's because he takes decisions that are too safe, and half a second too late...
Well, “shuffle magnets” may have been a bit colloquial. How about “develop a new, innovative game plan to better showcase our players’ skills”? Still Skipworth.

Of the candidates, King strikes me as the one who could best manage a coaching staff. But Skipworth is the one who could move the magnets around and suddenly find a way to turn our list into a football team. Get him some support, and I think he'll do well.
Yeah, JL's always had a bit of white line fever about him, and if you're not his friend you'll end up his enemy. I'm not a fan - his sledging was fairly petty for a supposedly smart bloke.
Travaglia, Lindsay and Berry all seem like very good players in positions of need. I'd love any of them. But I'd also love a genuine difference-making midfielder, and there appear to be several in the draft - Smith, Lalor, Draper, Langford, FOS (I'm not sold on Smillie). Even later, there might...
Ah yes. I missed that, looking on my phone. Anyway, I’d say those two have excellent claims to be the best pure all-rounders. Would definitely have been selected for either discipline. Kallis wouldn’t, and neither would Sobers if the West Indies of his era had a stronger bowling line-up.
On...
Cam Green will definitely average over 40 with the bat if he stays at 4. Not sure his bowling average will improve too much unless he can pry a newer ball out of the hands of the big 3.
