I get that most don’t see Hunter in the starting line up. But at his best , which we haven’t seen a lot of due to lack of continuity, he has shown some nice tricks and is arguably best 23. At worst he is solid depth - and 8 times out of 10 will be better value than the draft pick we would get...
No doubt there is a gap between Steele & Macrae - and the rest.
Still many unanswered questions about the others. Here are just a few for starters.
Can Pou pick up where he left off?, can he go another level and elevate himself to sit alongside Steele & Macrae?
If Windy gets an injury free...
This looks spot on to me.
My only comment is that RTB likes to have a hbf on the bench. Clark could be the hbf option but I suspect they lean towards Trav or Arie based on preseason form. Which probably leaves Windy as the sub.
This is a great topic stavro#4 for discussion that deserves its own thread.
My 2 cents worth I think you nailed the first 3 Cal Twomey style, but I'm in agreeance with other punters that Nas doesn't belong in this top 5. Not saying he doesn't need to continue improving, just there are others...
I’ve not had the luxury of watching under 18 games , so I’m curious why there is no love for Reid when everything I’ve read about his season seems to suggest he knows how to find the ball - a lot - including at the champs.
And what’s your point exactly ?
Somehow that $44m shortens the 1 hour drive and the traffic and parking nightmare that will be there for unsuspecting gather round visitors?
And while you are at , why don’t you tell us how much they spent on the white elephant oval at Mt Barker ? Im glad we...
We were never going to get drawn at Adelaide oval as we aren't going to draw the big crowds based on our 2024 form.
So we basically got what the SANFL consider as their best ground for spectators.
If you actually went to Norwood oval for gather round last year, you would have seen its just...
I have to admit i hadn't heard of him. Interesting and somewhat surprising selection.
Been in the system 4 years already, but being December born, perhaps he's only just hitting physical maturity.
If he has a tank to go with that neat left foot, then he could definitely be in the mix.
Also...
If we get Norths pick [emoji638], there’s every chance we take that to Carlton the day before the draft telling them we are taking FOS (who they are equally keen on) , hoping they will be willing to throw us something useful as a live trade for a slide back [emoji637] position.
It worked last...
it seems like the list management team have set that expectation internally . This looks like the last year we fully invest in the draft and next year we are throwing money at any free agent who will take it.
unless we finish in the 8, he aint coming to us.
He is getting to that age where if he decides to leave, it will be going to a club that looks like playing finals for the next 5 years. We may well have the biggest offer, but plenty of top 8 clubs will throw some big money his way. you dont need...
If nobody takes Elwood, and he plays at Sandy next year , can we still nominate him next year as a Father Son ?
Similarly if one of our NGA’s doesn’t get picked up , can we keep him in our NGA program, send him to Sandy and if he improves enough , can we still bid on him as a NGA next year ?
I hope they do give him a crack at CHB.
I think he is the closest like for like replacement for Battle currently on the list in terms of what he offers. Give Hammer 3 years in the role and it would not surprise me to see his importance surpass what Battle provided this year.
Agree.
Puts pressure on Butler to keep performing. Butler performs best when under pressure to keep his spot.
Plus we don’t have a plug and play forward if either of Butler or Higgins gets injured.
I’d offer up next years first for Houston.
This years draft crop is strong so keep 7&8 and cash in on the draft talent this year.
I’d say pretty well every other club in the league would think we will finish a bottom 6-8 club next year , so offering our first could look an attractive gamble.
Marshall looks the most natural leader out there.
We’ve seen him do the “jump on my shoulders and I’ll carry you” gesture a couple of times this year after kicking a goal. His form has been outstanding, his enthusiasm infectious. Players want to follow him.
Wilkie as his vice. The rock solid...
If
1. we take picks 7&8 to the draft this year
2. Plus the 2nd rounder which originally belonged to the Crows, and
3. this draft is reasonably strong and deep, and
4. Dalrymple is the guru we are led to believe and he nails those 3 picks
Then
5. Why not throw next years first round pick...
It was a disappointing season for me overall given we played finals last year. It’s almost like we got these 2 years back to front - with this year being the year of exploration.
Injuries no doubt didn’t help in the first half of the season - but we also made some poor selection choices in the...
Would not surprise me if any players with niggles are encouraged to book in for surgery and / or start rehabilitation programs to prep for the upcoming preseason.
I’m sure RL still wants to win, but perhaps also wants to have another look at which young players might have the potential to step...
Why is Hawthorn prepared to pay Battle so much is the question people should be asking.
Have a look at Hawthorn. There is a club that is executing a text book perfect list rebuild. Not a lot they have done wrong and a lot they have done right.
And yet they are prepared to pay Battle big bucks...
For those who are arguing to keep Allison, let me ask you this.
Rewind 12 months. If someone had asked you then what a pass mark for 2024 would be to renew Allison’s contract , how many of you would have said “he just needs to show a bit every now and then at Sandy and no need to play a senior...
Everyone agrees we need mids - and good ones , not making up the numbers ones.
Pou looks a likely prospect but probably 2026 before we start seeing what peak Pou looks like. Garcia, Ari, Collard all on similar or later timelines.
Draft a couple first rounders and maybe they come good in 2027...
Richmonds Jack Graham a free agent. I’ve been a fan. Still has a few decent years left in him and I reckon we have never seen the best of him stuck behind a powerful midfield brigade.
Put him on our running program and should be able to play on ball full time. Good coverage for the next 3...
