    Rating our U23 Prospects

Good point, although Brown and Dawes were no more than serviceable players. Reid was a genuine gun though and good Draft selection, unfortunately undone by repeated soft tissue injuries. So over the past 25 years, the only elite tall players that we’ve successfully recruited via the Draft are...

    Rating our U23 Prospects

Thanks for your thoughts and efforts - that was a good, calm, considered analysis. And well done for not falling into the common trap of over-rating our players. The reality is that we have been so starved of early draft picks and late-draft surprise improvers and also so over-reliant on aging...

Thanks Jen for you big efforts. Hope you have a great Christmas. As for training, are you concerned we have so many injured already? Mitchell, DeGoey, Hill, Mihochek, Jaicos, Maynard, Hoskin-Elliott plus a few fringe guys. Seems far from ideal? Also, what are your thoughts on Perryman...

Yes, McStay is terrific but I was specifically talking about players that we have brought into the Club via the Draft. Sent from my iPhone using BigFooty.com

West is the most key forward-looking bloke that we’ve drafted since Travis Cloke. Here’s hoping appearances aren’t deceiving because he really does look the part, doesn’t he? An exciting prospect! Sent from my iPhone using BigFooty.com

And who cares about his field kicking! He’s gonna be banging them through the big sticks, not trying to hit a moving target! 🤣 Tony Lockett probably had lousy field kicking too! Sent from my iPhone using BigFooty.com

The Mitchell situation highlights the big risk we’re taking with such an old list. On paper, if all available, it’s a Premiership worthy side. But old guys get injured far more often than mid-20’s guys. We’re going to need a lot of luck on that front to contend again this year. 🤞 Sent from...

Analysis Derek Hine leaves the Pies

The first half of Hine’s career at Collingwood was much more successful that the second half, so it was probably time for a change. But we wouldn’t have won the...

    Best 23 in 2025

Injuries aside, I reckon Lippa will be lucky to play Seniors next season. All of DeGoey, Mitchell, Mihochek, McStay, Perryman, Houston and Membrey will be INs from our Rd24 side this year. Richards and Noble create two openings but another five will be OUTs to free up the necessary spots. Hard...

I reckon it’s a near certainty that Membrey plays from the start of the season, alongside McStay and Checkers. If everyone is available, I think we’ll go with something like this. FB: Howe, Frampton, Maynard HB: Houston, Moore, Crisp C: J.Daicos, DeGoey, Quaynor HF: Schultz, Mihocek, Hill...

In the VFL? Start with our 2024 final round line-up, then subtract Noble and Richards and add DeGoey, Mitchell, Checkers, McStay, Houston, Perryman and perhaps Membrey. Four or five of this year’s final round team will be pushed out. Lipinski would be near the top of that list. Sent from my...

Opening Round: GWS v Collingwood, Saturday afternoon

Yes….but it wasn’t fair that we had the shortest off-season AND were scheduled to play three matches before most other teams had played two. It really put us on the back foot and I have little doubt that the extra effort needed to lift out win-loss back into positive territory from such a bad...

Last chance saloon for Reef but in his favour, defence is far more structured and requires less natural footy instinct than midfield and (especially) up forward, which was clearly a deficiency for Reef. He has the physical attributes but whether or not Reef has the same manic, fearless...

Anyone else still find it bizarre that the Saints (a) cut Membrey in the first place and (b) didn’t even attempt to get something for him in return? It’s not as though the Saints are over-endowed with reliable medium/tall forwards. At face value it looks like a gift for us but anything that...

And stop playing him on a wing! At both VFL and AFL level, Allan needs to be played in the centre square. Its his best position and we need to fast-track his development there so that he's a real chance to take over once the likes of Pendles, Mitchell and Sidey sail off into retirement.

Yes, he’s no model citizen. We’ve had a few of those over the years who have matured and eventually excelled for us. I watched a lot of Fahey’s junior footy in Canberra (he played for Queanbeyan). He completely dominated - miles better than everyone else in his age group - and was playing Mens...
