Have to say Frampton is the worst, most ineffective defender/player I,ve seen at AFL level in a long time. Puts incredible pressure on every other defender.
I thought Frampton was a liability all night; and needs replacing. How much is Murphy missed from the defence and probably the reason Moore is looking shaky at times. Richards looks a classy player - must be retained.
Plenty of justified criticism in preceding pages of some players performances last night.....Stanley, Kolo, Parfitt, Cameron, even Stewart. Yet not one word of the player who often looks the weakest link in the chain to me...Zac Guthrie. I'd be interested to read people's views of what it...
Are you talking about Kolo or Cam Guthries brother? If Narkle and Sav are Toast - surely Kolo and Z. Guthrie are soggy souffle'. Sav hasn't been too bad tonight.
Parfitt was fantastic and he and Dangerfield, with help from Sellwood settled the contested midfield battle early on paving the way for a comfortable win. Agree that the opportunities given to Higgins, so clearly past his best and for that matter a player like Zuthrie, who was one of the few...
No, not a chance. Cats are a great team to support and watch play. I've also long admired not only the quality of player Geelong have produced but the culture within the Club and with few exceptions the "no dickhead" policy which has delivered players, coaches etc who are decent human beings...
Yes, but Sheedy's record was some time ago. Funny you should mention him; I was an Essendon supporter for many years but became fed up with him remaining so long as Coach when regeneration candidates like Tim Watson or Bomber Thompson should have taken over the role. I became a Cats fan in 2000...
I get the feeling you'll be the one moaning about Scott in three years time. Even if he was a great coach, which I doubt, fourteen years is a ridiculously long tenure - one you won't see repeated in any major sporting code in the future.
Thanks for that - all make sense with that background information. Doesn't happen often, at 21 might be a good replacement for Krueger and put pressure on the likes of Kolo and Zuthrie.
It would be possible (for Scott) to win so many games; go deep into September and still be responsible for too many wrong calls. Especially if you 1) had a list (that for much of the past decade) was packed with very good players, in their prime years. 2) had a decided advantage with a home...
Ok, I've got a "single, sensical argument" as to why Scott should not be the head coach for a "new stage in the team's development". If it was good enough for Hawthorn and Collingwood to decide that their 10 year plus Coaches weren't the right people to do it....why should Scott be launched...
Think Hocking will regret extending Scott. Quite apart from his stubborn game style; recruitment and selection ideas, I don't think decade plus tenure is a good idea and CS is about to start his 12th season.
Hard to argue with the top 10. What an outstanding player Stewart has become. Someone asked me did I think he was the equal of Enright...and he probably is?
He hasn't been working in a voluntary capacity!! Of course whenever he does finish up, he'll go as a Premiership Coach and have that home and away/finals record on his cv. However, he will also be remembered as a Coach who squandered a flag or two along the way; copied a Hawks formula of...
Yes it is difficult to maintain the status of a competitive Club for so long. List management and recruitment in particular are balancing acts, and in that sense the Club has been blessed to have had Stephen Wells pulling the strings for so long. Maybe Scott has another year to roll the dice...
We will have to disagree. I do think the Geelong strategy (under Scott) of topping up with ready made trades and free agents for some time has been a bit lazy; short term and putting off the inevitable hard work which comes with a cyclic need to rebuild in a way which acknowledges the AFL...
Agree with your every word; except the last sentence. I'm convinced that after 11 seasons, Chris Scott is not the right person to rebuild this team, anymore than Clarkson was the right person to rebuild Hawthorn or Buckley...Collingwood. Scott's had ample opportunity to rebuild this list...
Very good news. IF he can work on upping the defensive side of his game, we have a quality midfielder/small forward. Hoping Clark stays as well, and I think Constable will be off.
Insightful post. Even if Scott does have the capacity/will to change a game plan or recruit a different style of player, I think your second point is crucial - 11 seasons as head coach, across a lot of professional sports, not just ours is a long stretch and will become a rarity in the...
He really is. Tonight should be his Coaching epitaph at Geelong. Playing Kolo, Atkins, Zuthrie and Henderson in defence really signed his papers. The Club has to bite the bullet and head in a different direction and strategy....without Chris Scott.
It's another example of why so many of us dislike Scott as a head coach. Zuthrie coming in for an injured midfielder is an insult to objective team selection.
Fair enough, whether 13.7% is an "algorithm" or a nudge nudge, wink wink figure, it supports my contention that Chris Scott has had a very good playing lists during his time as Coach.
