I’m in the don’t play King in ruck camp other than maybe a pinch hit in the forward line - however what I would like to see is him occasionally be let loose to roam up the ground and become an outlet much as Harry McKay does - would get him involved and avoid the wrestling - I presume he has the...
Thank you V66 - absolutely on the money!
We are now professional, driven, have a focus on development, a clear game plan (run & more run) & draft accordingly. Clearly if you are not up to standard as a player or off field and/or haven’t bought in to the plan you are gone.
The plan also...
Spot on - was never a world beater but he could have been a nice player - never reached his potential due to the ordinary coaching and country football club training standards he experienced.
Not exactly sure but just looks athletic & mobile & according to the website 193cm & I’m guessing 90kg (?) - crazy they don’t detail the weight anymore but these are the PC times we now live in
Joffa - great summary.
My 5 cents:
Dodson - showed a bit - very small sample size but liked what I saw
Sharman - good size now & moving well
Hunter - to the naked eye does look fitter and running ok
Pou - in everything and really is an excellent kick
King - definitely filled out - very big man...
Agree with all of that - & has put on a bit of size so should be able to give Marshall a bit of a chop out. Though yesterday it was only Marshall, Dodson & Boyd doing ruck work drills at the end of training (with Lenny & Dodson hammering into each other - Lenny still going alright!)
Hopefully...
Yes they were bombing it in after numerous short kicks as a build up from the back - but the instruction after the bomb to the big guys was knock it down and then the crumbers collected and either a handball or kick and then a shot on goal - it was a crumbing and execute drill
Ps Windy was just doing rehab - boy can he run - just glides over the turf - hopefully he can get a bit more of the pill this season as a midfielder. Great role model as a young guy.
Last time I was at training Owens seemed very fumbly - he was very good today.
Also was impressed with Jones -...
Looks to me they really want Arie to play and using him in the drills wherever possible. His fitness seems much improved - the question marks will be whether his speed and defensive craft can be exposed - hopefully he has some good practice games against real opposition.
One little snippet - NAS got the ball in the back pocket hard against the boundary and was corralled by Pou - went further towards the boundary then like lightning went inboard leaving Pou in his wake (much to the amusement of the bench wondering if he had broken an ankle) - NAS then looked in...
Jones changed his game in the back half - handballed rather than kicked at every opportunity (presumably a coaching instruction as he is not a great kick) - made a big difference
Good question - seems more engaged this year. Absolutely knows where the goals are (can’t train it), great crumber & a great kick & tried to take mark of the year at Monday’s training.
But very slight, fitness (?), defensive mind set (seems better from the couple of trainings I’ve been to) and...
Nothing more true than if you can’t do it at training you sure as hell won’t see it on match day!
Hence I’m a big RTB fan - Training standards are miles ahead of the previous regime - of course all the opposition are improving as well so its incremental and you just got to keep driving excellence.
One was a proven B+ player the other 2 speculative - time will tell.
Battle is a loss but he is gone - he is the enemy now - not worthy of wringing our hands over him!
Great report - a couple of observations:
Macrae knows how to find it & use it (neat right foot when he has to) - will be a big plus in 2025 - reckon he has plenty of good footy left in him.
Hugo - very neat user and has started to bulk up - at one stage he lost Macrae in traffic - Boris -...
I hear you but:
Heath - the jury is out - shown some more promising signs but no way I’d be confident he will be an AFL player - Ro & Campbell both monstered him at training for years - 4th pre season I think (?)
Keeler - will never be a ruckman but hopefully can pinch hit - coming into his...
Hard to know as they didn’t do any centre square work when I was there - what I do know is that he looks very strong (if perhaps a few centimetres short of some of the taller ruckman)
Didn’t get there till 10.30am so here’s my 5 cents worth:
First thing that struck me as soon as I got there was the energy & voice - fantastic!
Bolton and Enright ran the drills - Bolton very vocal and engaged. RTB observing most of the time from the middle
Pou looking to continue where he...
