Yet only one poster here was against that Sheil trade. I don't recall who it was, but I remember there was only one.

If I was in charge Cox & Reid would be on the trade table so fast their heads would spin.

Recruiting AFL Trade & Free Agency XII - 💰💰💰

We need a bunch of genuine smalls to address the imbalance of the list. One backup for McGrath if he's injured. One good small defender who can deliver rebound from half back. One rover to succeed Merrett when he gets older. Three quality small forwards. Plus backups. The club needs to stop...

Recruiting AFL Trade & Free Agency XII - 💰💰💰

I highly doubt that Murphy Reid falls to our pick. He's absolute class. You could plug him straight into half forward and he will make things happen. Would like to see it though.

Opinion 2024 The good, the bad and the ugly

Good, Zach Merrett. Without him Essendon would be bottom 4. Bad, he turns 30 next year and we need to draft his successor.

Recruiting AFL Trade & Free Agency XII - 💰💰💰

The team is loaded with 6 ft 2-3 half backs. Laverde Redman Heppell Martin Kelly. When you have too many of one type a few of them are bound to lose consistency. On any given day you won't find roles for all, or even most of them. I believe Redman suffers as a result.

Recruiting AFL Draft Watch 2024 - What do we do, we have a top 10 pick?

    Yeah I get it. E= mc2. I don't know why I ask

Recruiting AFL Draft Watch 2024 - What do we do, we have a top 10 pick?

Your argument is hardly convincing. What difference does height make for an inside mid? After you explain then we can talk.

Recruiting AFL Draft Watch 2024 - What do we do, we have a top 10 pick?

Well Richmond had Edwards Lambert and Prestia. There's no hard and fast rule really.

Recruiting AFL Draft Watch 2024 - What do we do, we have a top 10 pick?

I think I know what you mean. As a mid he won't jump ahead of Caldwell Tsatas Merrett Parish Durham Hobbs any time soon. He also won't fit in a forward line with Caddy Langford Stringer (and a resting ruck). But as a long-term prospect he's a gamble worth taking. Every draft pick is a gamble so...

Recruiting AFL Draft Watch 2024 - What do we do, we have a top 10 pick?

Call me crazy but I actually think Armstrong and Shanahan could both be gone. Armstrong looks good in NC. He displays agility, good kicking and the ability to keep his nerve in marking contests. Shanahan is not far behind him. His form with Essendon implies that he won't languish for long in the...

Recruiting AFL Draft Watch 2024 - What do we do, we have a top 10 pick?

I don't doubt he can make the grade. But I think he's not top 20. I would probably take him 2nd round.

Recruiting AFL Draft Watch 2024 - What do we do, we have a top 10 pick?

I want r1 Sam Lalor... r2 Tom Gross. Then scrape around for whatever dangerous small forwards we can get our hands on.

    Preview Round 23 - Essendon vs Sydney - Friday 16 August - 7:40 PM - Marvel Stadium

Papley and Warner out makes them about 10 goals worse than full strength. This game is toss of the coin.

Recruiting AFL Trade & Free Agency XII - 💰💰💰

You're saying 5 years but anything can happen in 5 years. It's virtually impossible to plan a team that far ahead. Hawthorn have been pretty ordinary for a while but in one off season Watson Ginnivan and D'ambrosio has given them wheels. I agree that the draft picks can take time but 5 years...

Recruiting AFL Trade & Free Agency XII - 💰💰💰

Hawthorn has 4 quality smalls in their front half. Including D'ambrosio. Essendon has one Merrett. Unless you count Gresham and Menzie. Hawthorn moves the ball with run, carry and link by handball and with speed. They set up easy goals for themselves by opening up space. Just the kind of footy...

Coach Men's Senior Coach: Brad Scott

I was devastated with losing D'Ambrosio. I remember thinking we should bring him in for ANZAC Day when Merrett was out as the best like replacement we had. Alas, Scott didn't see it that way. Only saw him as defender. Also I was disappointed with the lack of support around here. I don't recall...

Team Mgmt. Makeup of our team II - Strengths & deficiencies, player development

Richmond boosted its roving division with Lambert Short & Castagna. In the rookie draft. Followed by Rioli, Bolton, Baker etc and just went to another level. But the Prestia trade was the big one. Before that Martin had to go in and win the ball. Prestia took Martin off the leash.

6 foot 7 winger. You've got to have one of those.

Roast Our general fitness, strength and conditioning.

The premise of this thread is spot on. Fitness is a perennial issue for Essendon. For a long time Essendon has recruited players with chronic injury concerns. Even now we have Baldwin, JDavey & Tex that haven't played regular footy since they were 16. But it goes back a long way. Kavanagh got...

Coach Men's Senior Coach: Brad Scott

Fake news. Nank never designated forward I watched every Richmond game. He may have drifted forward from ruck. You get that luxury if you don't stack the forward line with talls. Then it actually works. I don't recall Geelong ruckman playing up alongside Hawkins and Cameron either...

Coach Men's Senior Coach: Brad Scott

Give me a break. Geelong premiership forward line consisted of Hawkins & Cameron. 3 guys under 6 foot in Miers, Close & Stengle. The 3rd tall was Rohan at 6 ft 2. In Collingwood premiership McStay was out and Cox filled in. None of the other teams you cited have won anything. You overlooked...

Coach Men's Senior Coach: Brad Scott

With forward marking options such as Langford, Caddy, Stringer and Jones somehow we end up with Draper as the spearhead. While the good teams look for an agile dangerous front 6, we still play the "ruck forwards" like it's 1985. Also Zerk Thatcher >>> Laverde D'ambrosio >>> Hind Bryan >>>...

    AFL Player #15: Jayden Laverde

Barrass will turn 30 next year. That's the kind of absurd short term moves Essendon has been making for 20 odd years. Filling gaps with veterans gets you nowhere. It just keeps Essendon awful. But ZReid at 205 cm is no solution either. We need to draft a contest winning chb and keep building.
