Opinion Elite Potential on our List

Too much talk of Reid. More likely to be delisted than reach elite at this stage. Surely you have to do more than be picked high in the draft to have elite potential.

This is a weird post, as this isn't what I said. I am saying that Melbourne's first next year was a risky trade (and I wouldn't have done it). It's written again in the post you quoted. I have no interest in continuing a discussion where someone says "you said this" then goes on to cherry-pick...

Recruiting AFL Draft Watch 2024 - Check out our haul

It is when you are saying we have a first this year, and traded it for a first round next year. Your list should keep going to the high 20s.. .where you see less players make it to 100 games. I'm not saying that there isn't a risk with ANY draft picks. I'm saying that Melbourne could end up...

Realistically Melbourne could go either way... they could implode and finish down the bottom, or with the cleanout they could get their act together and contend again.

The first next year slides back 1 or 2 picks. It is not world ending.

Calling it just a future first is an over simplification. A future first is a pick anywhere from 1 to 27. Yes, we received some second-rounders, but the biggest asset is that first-round pick. There is risk with it, based on how Melbourne are going to perform.

Recruiting AFL Draft Watch 2024 - Check out our haul

Yeah, I was saying before draft night I wouldn't have done the Melbourne trade. But while Melbourne's Future First could blow out to pick 27 next year, I wouldn't be calling it the 'safe' option.

There is still risk tied to Melbourne’s future pick. It could easily end up as a pick in the 20s.

Why does the trade back in need to be after the Kako bid? Surely if they trade it for the next live pick, it's still on. Other clubs can't bid on Kako if you have the next pick.
  28. Duckworth

Recruiting AFL Draft Watch 2024 - Check out our haul

Yeah, I can see that point too. Depending on what happens to Melbourne or how they use the pick, there is still some risk with the trade-back-in strategy.

Thanks for the search, Ant :thumbsu:. I agree that both scenarios carry risk, and they have played it safe. I wonder what their plan is to trade back into the First Round this year. Unravelling these deals in 2030 won't be easy.
