Surely he has to earn his place?
Sure, maybe not VFL but maybe swap Parish in and move Bont to the bench. He’ll have to bide some time forward too, as our centre line is pretty stacked.

I agree bringing in two afl captains would really help our leadership deficiency.

Sack Rosa if he can’t get it done.

Surely we pick up Prior?
not until after the draft.
I think SSP train on chance is a good option if he chooses to do that with us.
lots of decent players were cut. He might not even be on our short list.
and depends who we select at the back end of the draft first before we know how many spots we have available.

Free agents of interest to me;

Oskar Faulkhead averaged 21 possessions a game at VFL level this year. Good sized utility.

Josh Fahey - injury cruelled the former academy player. Averaged 27 at VFL level in 2024 (7 games) and 28 in 2024 (11 games). The kid can play, injury is holding this utility back

Curtis Taylor - marking small forward. Obviously the “he’s shit cause North delisted him” argument will come out. Would he be better in a better team? Who knows. He’s the sort of player I want us to draft

Don’t want any Faulkheads at Essendon

Curtis Taylor one surprised me. I watched a fair bit of North and constantly thought Taylor was on a good trajectory until this year. Would have big moments every game. Problem with him is he's a bit of a nothing position player. Wouldn't be opposed to taking him as rookie and just running him through VFL guts for a year to see if anything is there once settled.

Jai Culley and Jaxon Prior would be good players DFA/SSP wise. Hewago Oea is another I think would be a good pick up across half back, quick and good skills. Dom Bedendo as a half forward.

With the 2024 off season (almost) done, take a look at next year

Draft hand

Essendon 1st, Melbourne 1st, Essendon 2nd, St.Kilda 2nd

4 list changes one would think, these are the current out of contracts;

Nick Bryan (priority but wouldn't surprise to see seek more opportunities)
Alwyn Jnr (pressure building if Kako + others improve)
Sam Draper (should be retained but could seek move back to SA)
** Todd Goldstein (retired, could even be done early if we want a mid season draft pick)
Ben Hobbs (would like to see in the senior side more but was sniffed around by other teams)
Harrison Jones (needs to get more consistency to be a best 23 player imho)
Jayden Laverde (depth who could be overtaken by others)
** Lual Luamon (coming from a long way back)
Zac Reid (injuries need to bugger off)
** Will Setterfield (another coming from a long way back. Injuries and younger guys could go past him)
Dylan Shiel (see Will Setterfield - same applies)

Think we likely see these guys gone next year.

Goldstein, Shiel, Setterfield, Luamon and Laverde.

And if we go backwards by a fair bit I would not be surprised to hear the Merrett/St Kilda drums start beating again.
It's Luamon Lual, not the reverse boys ;)

I agree with your post, however I would like to add Perkins.

I believe he is OOC next season and the past 18 months there was many instances of him not been up to it.
Easy to see others pass him too based on recent form...or lack of.

Goldy 100%

As for the others. We’ve got a lot of spots that need turning over. If Setters and Lav are happy to play mostly VFL and be on a list you’d be mad not to keep them as depth.

We’re going to have a big player turnover in a bunch of other spots. If we can’t replace them with someone better why bother
