Cannot agree on Parish. The last thing we need is another midfielder. Our (very young) midfield is already #1 in AFL for clearance differential and top 3 in contested possessions. They will only get better.
We have no forward line. It’s really bleak down there. Despite the brilliant emergence...
Completely agree Bris. But I think we will reboot our midfield (desperately need to) over summer. It won’t happen overnight, but it will happen.
I’m not a savage ‘trade Mitchell’ proponent, but if we get a top 15 pick, I’d do it.
I loved the aggressive, take-no-prisoners, us-against-the-world...
This.
Wouldn't swap him for Rioli, let's be clear about that, but Selwood's first four years of AFL football are almost unmatched in terms of output.
Judd goes close, but his first two years weren't as good as Selwood's.
If this bloke was in a Hawthorn jumper we'd be praising him as the...
Even at a second club? Does the clock start again?
I thought once you were a free agent you were a free agent for the remainder of your career.
If I'm wrong then we may never see a three-club player again...
Re: Loves how collingwood fans are so dumb.
I love Brad Sewell but Swan has him covered. Swan was in the top 5 players in the comp last year, won numerous awards and touched the footy more than any other player.
Gotta be fair if we are going to play the comparison game...
Re: Hawthorn's verus Geelong 2001 Draft.. who is better?
Well drafted by both clubs.
I'm going to open my other eye and say that the Cats did slightly better. Two Brownlows and a Norm Smith is a very good return.
Re: norm smith
Easy.
Geelong had a number of contributors - Ablett, Bartel, Selwood, Chapman, Taylor. No single outstanding player.
Gram was far and away the Saints best player.
Thanks mate.
I think we got a little screwed there.
Port has done very well and the Dons probably broke even.
And special thanks to Geelong for helping out.
Re: Say No to Mark Williams
He is 26 and as far as I know his knee problems (circa 2007) are behind him.
Plays as a small leading full forward, not a crumber. Is a dead-eye kick for goal.
Kicked 63 goals in 2005 and 60 in 2006.
Damn good player. I really don't want to lose him. But...
Second round picks don't mean much. It barely changes the equation.
Also, Schoenmakers is a first year player - doesn't this mean he cannot be traded? I thought that all new draftees were locked to their first club for a minimum of two years.
Fair point. I do hear you on that one. But Hodge is younger, better, didn't have a knee operation this year and doesn't want to leave.
If Hodge was two years older, not quite as good, with a bad knee and wanted to leave, I reckon we'd accept pick 8 and Pettigrew. Probably just pick 8 would get...
Strengths: Big and strong, very clean hands, covers the ground well, wins own ball, great pedigree.
Weaknesses: Slow-ish, Daniel Cross syndrome (likes to handpass).
Still very young though and looks an excellent prospect. I would hate to lose him.
Re: Luke Hodge and HFC PR Skills
Slight segue, but relevant given that the OP as a Carlton supporter.
Down at Carlton, the bloke that goes over and above to charm the fans, especially the kids, is Brendan Fevola. From all reports he is sensational in this regard.
So despite the fact that...
Gary has just won the Brownlow Medal, Coaches Award and Player's MVP. I could not think of a worse time to start doing comparisons with him.
He is the best... period.
Sandy was rubbish tonight.
Retirement village beckons.
Among his many inappropriate, cringeworthy comments was this doozy: "You have the chance to win a Brownlow and a Norm Smith in the same year."
First - the bloke has just won the Brownlow, how about you just focus on that?
Second...
Re: Port Adelaide have 3 year deal for R Ladson
Agree but I'm not sure that he is good enough, often enough to be completely off the trade table.
I'll listen...
Brilliant for the Hawks and Port. Make it happen.
But seriously, why would North do it?
- Give up Gibson and pick 5.
- Receive pick 24, 25 and Salopek???
I don't think so.
Re: Hawks hit with demand of 750k for Burgoyne
Just a prediction worthy. Three years is a very long time and I think he is on the right trajectory. He has clean hands, good skills, is hard at it and is a footy head.
Let's wait and see...
Re: Hawks hit with demand of 750k for Burgoyne
Lewis must stay. He is only 21 and plays like a modern-day Leigh Matthews. In three years' time he may be in the top five players in the comp, whereas Burgoyne will be eyeing off retirement.
No deal. Not even for a straight swap.
We had a few blokes who had good years and they were (rightly) nominated for the AA squad, but I'm not sure any of them deserved a spot in the final 22.
Other blokes were unluckier than Rioli, Sewell and Franklin. What about the Porpus?
On Reiwoldt - he was the captain of, and best player...
