Second round picks don't mean much. It barely changes the equation. Also, Schoenmakers is a first year player - doesn't this mean he cannot be traded? I thought that all new draftees were locked to their first club for a minimum of two years.

Fair point. I do hear you on that one. But Hodge is younger, better, didn't have a knee operation this year and doesn't want to leave. If Hodge was two years older, not quite as good, with a bad knee and wanted to leave, I reckon we'd accept pick 8 and Pettigrew. Probably just pick 8 would get...

Strengths: Big and strong, very clean hands, covers the ground well, wins own ball, great pedigree. Weaknesses: Slow-ish, Daniel Cross syndrome (likes to handpass). Still very young though and looks an excellent prospect. I would hate to lose him.
