Didn't quite get the point of the Tiger Woods question, but anyways.

Haven't gone through the 6 pages of replies but the first thing I thought of was shameless cross promotion. Isn't Channel 7 broadcasting the tournament Woods will be at?

If not, I retract my statement

If it wasn't crass promotion, was Sandy trying to bring in some comparison of greatness between Ablett and Woods??

If so, that's not going to work. Comparing our domestic league footballers to the giants of world sport is silly. Ablett was embarrassed at the suggestion that Tiger wanted to meet him

I thought Sandy did ok - the guy was thrown into the gig at the last minute, so we can cut him some slack.

Sturck me straight away as promoting the golf for Channel Seven, which is absolutely disgusting, and I hope Channel 7 get pillored for it in the media. To have one of the best moments in a young man's life spoiled by shameless cross-promotion is pathetic, and typical of Channel 7.

The interview, as shocking as it was, kind of epitomised the whole coverage. I tried to be out of the room when they weren't counting votes (and Demetriou even managed to make that cringeful). From what I heard from the other room of Cometti's interview with Skilton and Murray, that was probably the best of the night.

You could see Ablett was bemused and puzzled about the Tiger Woods question - was wondering where Sandy was going with it - and when it appeared he was going nowhere with it, Ablett tried to brush it off by saying, "yeah i guess it'd be good to meet him" when in fact he probably couldn't give a toss whether he did or not!

Umm well Brownlows are around 1 year apart.

So unless she had a 13 month labor???

You still "fairly sure"?

The baby must have been born a couple of months earlier and Bruce traced the birth date back to conception shortly after he won his first brownlow. The point is that tasteless stuff like this and crap comparisons to Tiger Woods shouldn't overshadow the award.

Please forgive my memory, it was 11 years ago.

Sandy was rubbish tonight.

Retirement village beckons.

Among his many inappropriate, cringeworthy comments was this doozy: "You have the chance to win a Brownlow and a Norm Smith in the same year."

First - the bloke has just won the Brownlow, how about you just focus on that?

Second - don't get ahead of yourself Sandy, there will be 44 blokes running around out there on Saturday.

Third - in case you haven't noticed Sandy, it is not all that uncommon for the brownlow winner to be playing in the big dance. It has happened in 8 of the last 10 years in fact. But none of them has won it.

Stupid comment.

Lovely bloke, but time to retire.

Yeah, how bad was that one?!

I mean, as an interviewer you'd have to know that question is going straight through to the keeper. As if Ablett is even going to publicly speculate about being BOG on grand final day

Also his suggestions about being 'devastated' last year were neatly dealt with by Ablett referring to Cooney as a 'deserving winner' and the 'best player last year'

Just poor pre-emptive skills by Sandy. If he wanted to talk about the Norm Smith he could have at least tied it to Gary Snr's Norm Smith performance

Channel 7 fail again

Really capped off a long run of horrible set-pieces on the night. That thing with Curry and that Dave bloke was horrible, and Demetriou was giving me the shits with his incessant pausing. Just say the damn name Andrew, its not freakinwho wants to be a millionaire!!!

What was sad is that the interview just made gaz look nervous and weak becuase he was trying to answer shithouse questions.

Get rid of having the host network to provide the MC for the Brownlow Medal. Have someone like Tony Charlton be the MC for the Brownlow Medal. I still wonder why Sandy Roberts was chosen instead of Dennis Cometti, especially when you consider Roberts hasn't called a game for Seven since 2001 and also wasn't part of the commentary team from 2007 onwards when Seven regained the TV rights.

Why didn't they get that guy with the hugh bags under his eyes (Hamish?) to do the final interview. Would he have still be awake at that stage of the night? Looked like he was barely hanging in there at 7:30.

I'm surprised nobodys mentioned the fact that Gazza was wandering around the stage like a lost dog before receiving his medal because nobody thought it appropriate to usher him to the right place to stand on the stage while Fitzpatrick was gibbering his inanities.

How about if someone told you that Channel 9/FoxSports are televising the Australian Masters (where Tiger will be playing) this year?

I actually thought Sandy was generally excellent - however maybe he just looked good in comparison to all the other embarrassing gimps on show (Demetriou, Steve Currie etc).

Ok, well then you tell me what that question was all about then, i am curious....

Maybe he asked about the golf, just to lighten it up a bit, everyone knows Garry is shy and a nervous wreck when doing stuff like that and talking about himself.

Also about when Sandy asked if he was shattered last year, am I the only one who instantly thought he was talking about the loss to hawthorn???
I actually cringed when Garry automatically answered about the brownlow and Cooney.
Sandy never mention the brownlow, and moments before they were talking about the upcoming GF, and it's not like Sandy can interrupt and say he was referring to the GF loss, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, unless someone knows for sure.

And yes, please 7, get rid of Hamish. He's a shocker.

Horrid interview.. if i saw him after that i would of given him a left hook for ruining the brownlow. Silly old fool.
Good on ya mate, we need more people like you in the world, especially in Melbourne in the CBD on a Saturday night or a train station beating up Indian students.

Seriously Sandy stepped in at the last minute, did a reasonable job and besides the golf question that probably didn't all come from him he was fine.

Tall poppy syndrome having a crack at Sandy and Gazza in this thread.

No, Sandy was most definately referring to the brownlow

You got me thinking maybe Gazza did get the wrong idea of what Sandy was asking..

If so, Sandy did a great job of not showing surprise when Gazza went on a different path to his question.

Interesting...

He wasn't that bad.... til the interview! That was awful! He would regret that later... sure he didn't mean to come across like that. No one could.

Look at it back. Of course he was asking about the Brpwnlow. You idiots could talk yourselves into anything!
