I made a bit of an attempt posting there last pre season but just got zero engagement on any questions or opinions compared to here so then didn’t see the point. Just seemed a bit like the same small-medium group only replying to each other.
The training reports are great so it’s a bit annoying...
How do you know the effort he personally put into the show was akin to a second job vs largely externally managed and he just exhibited a bunch of art he had done over an extended time period? Is he quoted talking about the operational intensity he personally took on?
What do people see in store for Anthony Scott in 2025? Played 22 games in 2023 but then his 2024 was heavily impacted by concussion. Is he just seeing our time on his contract or a chance to force his way back in?
Agree. If he went into the draft this year I’m confident that Richmond would have picked him at #1 over Lalor, and if for whatever reason they didn’t then North definitely at #2 over FOS.
My view is that our KPFs, more specifically Jamarra and Naughton, need to take on this responsibility. They are capable of taking some great grabs but also regularly get worked under the ball allowing their direct opponent to intercept.
The Hawks had Frost (194cm), Scrimshaw (194cm) and Sicily...
But this is what concerns me. What is the value in having Hynes and Davidson playing tall at VFL level but then having a completely different role if lining up at AFL level with Darcy, Naughton and Jamarra?
I hope we can pick up some big lads to plonk up forward in the VFL to allow Croft to develop where we want him (if in fact that is in the backline), not where Footscray needs him, and also so the AFL and VFL team structures can resemble each other as much as possible.
From our website when he nomintated for father-son:
"Son of former Bulldogs tall Matthew, Croft is a 200cm utility playing for the Calder Cannons that has the ability to play at either end of the ground."
I think he played all of his U18 football for the Cannons up forward but had played a lot...
I think its possibly to get a sense for whether Freijah has really improved or is it more that Croft has dropped back a bit which would be entirely reasonable given his injuries and if he's added weight (which I guess we can only guess at these days).
You still hopefully get Freijah for a full year rather than only 12 (H&A) games. In that sense he only contributed 50% of what he can in 2025, and we were 9-0-3 in the H&A season when he played.
I wonder if the thinking is also that it gives you a chance to see how your existing list is developing through preseason. Whether we need or want a stop gap mature ruck could depend on whether Tim is getting headaches and how goos Lachie Smith is looking in February after a big training block.
I'd prefer the small defender path. Don't think a developing ruck makes sense while we have Lachie Smith and are still figuring out where Darcy and Croft develop long-term. A mature ruck I would understand to make sure Lobb can stay CHB and Darcy up forward even with an English injury.
I also find it interesting how little media coverage there is of the soft cap and salaries for coaches these days. Coaching renewals are seemingly only looked at by the media on a binary basis but (for example) there’s an enormous difference between renewing Bevo on his same salary vs on a...
I just don’t like that North is electing to disadvantage themselves, but then get partial protection through the rest of the fixture when we don’t. It’d be like the AFL sparing us having to play in Geelong because we’re voluntarily travelling to Ballarat twice a year.
That we sell 2 games to...
I thought the discussion was more around using our 2nd not 1st pick but maybe got that wrong. For our 1st pick I wouldn’t go there on list need alone.
That JOD was picked up as a Cat B rookie doesn’t mean anything now. My point is that if this kid is the best KPD in the draft and has a less...
Sure, but not sure why they should be exempted in 2025?
Despite North selling 2 home games to WA and a further 2 home games to TAS in 2025, and despite North playing only 13 games in VIC to our 14, we will actually spend 10 additional minutes on airplanes this year compared to them*. Sure they...
Not Dogs related but you just knew when North announced they were selling 2 home games to WA that there was a side deal with the AFL to not also give them an away game against either the Eagles or Freo.
In 2024 every team played an away game in WA, and a couple of teams had away games against...
Doesn’t it depend what the sweetener is? Could work with Essendon doing F1 + pick 28, possibly Sydney doing F1 + pick 22? The idea is also proposed for a world where all of Berry, Horton and Hannaford are already off the table.
If he’s that good but not a fit (no opinion, I don’t draft watch enough) then it is entirely possible we get offered a F1 + sweetener for that pick which could be quite tempting depending on the team.
Yep, its terrible for equity in the competition. Also shit for North fans where a home game against the Eagles would have been one of their best hopes of seeing a win in person but now they've sold that game away. I do really like the idea of playing two interstate teams (from the same state)...
I just don’t think it makes sense for us to have a medium forward with already have the 3 big boys down there. Our KPFs need to be surrounded by genuine smalls or a resting Bont.
