A move I can see us at least discussing is trading 35&48 with either Brisbane at 27 Essendon at 28.

As these are purely bid matching picks for Bris/Ess it increases their points so makes sense their end.

Arguably, moving our 3rd pick up a few spots may be worth dropping the 4th pick lower?

Wanted to mention him because we have taken a few medium forwards really late in the draft so if he is sitting wherever our fifth pick is or at our rookie pick I think he might be a chance.

Hannaford I can see as a genuine AFL mid in a year or two, although someone did question his tank ?
Berry also , certainly looks a bloke that could play wing.
Those 2 blokes would be great for our current list.

And the other 2 I mentioned, best available maybe ?
Davis already a mid at junior level .
Clarke half back or wing , lovely user of the footy.

I would love another gun mid , but I just don’t see any after the top 15 ?
With Kennedy now and Sanders needing to play ,anlso add Garcia , I think we have bought another 12 months.

Will be interesting to see it play out, but I’d say we grab one of the above, and then a prospective mid/fwd type like Hotton or the two you mentioned, with the hope they can eventually develop a strong midfield game.

Might be one at our pick in the 30's. Someone like Boxshall or Ough which would fill our need for younger bigger bodies onball and allow us to target the smaller players upfront.

Though in saying that Ough could be picked in the 20's somewhere as he was building a head of steam late in the year and has a December b'day so that will play in the back of recruiters minds especially with his body size.

Really a lot of what we do is going to be determined by what our strategy is regarding the small forward/half forward types in this pool, what the next draft looks strong in if anything if we keep our first pick there and don't trade it into this draft and if the recruiters believe that we need to rebuild the midfield now.

Charlie Cameron, Patrick Cripps, Zac Merrett, James Sciliy, Blake Acres and Matt Crouch all had poor times at the 2013 combine.

Cam Rayner ran a 7.57 and went at pick 1.

Endurance is one of the easiest things to train.

I get your point of view having said that they do put a lot of work in at U18 level. And if that's the best he can muster it is a concern for the position we would envision that he would play at HF he would need good endurance and that time doesn't engender a lot of confidence.

If we draft him I hope to be very wrong and a lot of his attributes would be a great fit.

I just don’t think it makes sense for us to have a medium forward with already have the 3 big boys down there. Our KPFs need to be surrounded by genuine smalls or a resting Bont.

That, and even though that endurance can be trained, elite endurance can't, and it's part of the value of the player.

Tom Scully would have been a bust pick 1 in the draft for all elements of his game other than his endurance running at its peak for GWS in 2017. Good luck training anyone to get to that Scully 2017 level.

Which is why I feel the club is trying to move our first pick up. Failing that, get another pick inside the top 25. Both scenarios require using future picks.

Looks like we'll probably miss out on guys like Berry and Hannaford.
So who becomes the next best choice out of guys like Hynes and Dattoli for instance? Or is there someone else to consider with our current first pick?

I suspect there’s starting to look like a clear 18-19 picks, it puts us in a range where there’s a lot of key fwds.

If Tigers end up doing 6 & 18 for 2, do you think they’d entertain 17 for 23 & 24?

It’s probably not enough for them(?), but would give us 23, 24, 25, 35 & 48, throughout the draft that hand could end up being something like

28, 29, 30, 35, 38

Lacks the wow factor of other top prospects this year, is more an accumulator rather then damaging wingman and hasn't improved from his underage year (regressed if anything). At the start of the year I had him comfortably top ten but after 12 months he has slipped completely out of the first round.

You would suspect Armstrong at least is gone. Either to Melbourne or Saints.

Hopefully Trainor gets taken before our pick, probably more wishful thinking than reality.

not sure if any others will. Do Port reach for Dodson? Knowing he won’t be there at 29 (their next pick). He could be anything with his profile and only recently converting to footy.
Or do they slide back in order to grab two?
I feel they would really like Berry to fit into their forwardline and add something straight away so its probably unlikely.

GWS double pick means that they might surprise with one of them. Do they go for Trainor maybe? They don’t really have that type on their list

I don't think he will be a complete bust, just someone that'll carve out a workman like 100-200 games. Not someone you'd want to spend a top 25 pick on but I think he is a pretty safe bet beyond that.

I'm wary of highly outside players without x-factor or a major point of difference. Lachie O'Brien, Jimmy Toumpas, etc. Best case scenario James Aish (ie. the workman like 200 gamer you said).

Agreed. Lachie O'Brien is the one that first came to my mind with Moreas and actually think he's less talented then O'Brien or the above players you mentioned.

For an outside player he handballs a lot because he doesn't have the confidence to take the more riskier option by foot and I really don't like that. It can stifle ball movement. I think we need players who are more direct with the footy and are good defensively which Moraes isn't.

I'd rather look at rawer types with untapped potential like we did with Freijah. Angus Clarke is one from this year (although a bit different), where his best and worst can be a fair way apart, but has the high end attributes that you can work with.

Agree with all of this and what goodcop badcop has brought up.
I personally wouldn't want Moraes in the top 30 because of the potential low ceiling.
I think he does go in that 30 range with clubs still interested all be it slightly less then 12 months ago. His endurance and link up play are his two best attributes and clubs are still confident he will be able to play on the inside at afl level after starting HHF, but like GCBC has already covered his kicking can be suspect leading him to choose overly conservative options or handballing and although he has that elite endurance he hasnt shown an intent to use it defensively.
On the above it makes sense that he has dropped so far since last year given his biggest knocks are things that the younger guys usually get more leeway on but can't get away with in their draft year.

O'brien, Toumpas and Aish all had similarities that are of concern but those three were all top 10 picks outside the top 30 though I don't mind having a look especially if the other earlier picks are more boom or bust types.
