The Training the House Down 2017 edition thread (2017 pre-season)

Could well be suited to a possible game plan change that involves a more scrappy Bulldogs style. Still doesn't instill confidence with disposal but at least he can win his own ball and dish it out to those that can have an impact by foot.

The Training the House Down 2017 edition thread (2017 pre-season)

Training well. Solid in running drills. He lost a bet with Smith at the last training session on Monday. Players were completing a few running drills to finish off. Smith finishing each one in front at around 30sec...not sure the distance.. Langers yells out "I'm shouting if you break the 30."...

Ultimate Glory Welcome to Hawthorn, Jaeger O'Meara

Was doing light drills plus semi competitive stuff in patches. Spent most of the time on another oval with rehab group incl. T Mitchell. Some players did leave camp early, Shiels went home Sunday. Photo of JOM in Blue singlet Monday means he was voted best trainer on Sunday. (Gym and beach work)

The Training the House Down 2017 edition thread (2017 pre-season)

JOM is definitely being eased in. Think we'll know more after the New Year. He's definitely moving freely and running at good pace in straight lines. Can anticipate he'll get half a practice game to prove himself in late February/ early March. Get through that and Round 1 is a goer. Just out of...

The Training the House Down 2017 edition thread (2017 pre-season)

JOR running has improved from last year but feel with the new additions he's going to have to pull a rabbit out of the hat to get midfield time. Or at least take his chances while JOM eased in. Pace an issue, doesn't seem to have a second string. Lovell jumped the queue from my observations.

The Training the House Down 2017 edition thread (2017 pre-season)

Had a chance to watch the camp on the Sunny Coast as my young fella was water boy for the week. Have to agree, the grounds are impressive but disagree about your assessment of JOM. Today he was in the blue singlet which is awarded to best trainer from the day before. He and T Mitchell on similar...

Has anyone got a "Hun" subscription? Curious to know where other Hawks fell.

    Autopsy Sheahan's Top 50, 2013

So why did he pick him number one last year? Think Buddy's No1 rating was just an attention grabber, knowing full well the punters would jump in hook line and sinker to debate it.

    Autopsy Sheahan's Top 50, 2013

Buddy drops to 3. Mike claims his poor goal kicking, and over head marking was the catalyst for this. "Drop his bag of 13 last year down to 5 and his average is just 3 goals." Not sure where the rest of the hawks fall as I won't pay the "Hun's Ransom"

    Club statement on Lake infringement

Think the meeting with the leadership group will go something like this. " Okay Brian, you've embarrassed us a little bit here but we need you to do the same to Geelong Rd 1. As you probably don't need to play the whole pre season BS, we'll suspend you for the first 2 rounds of the NAB Cup...

    Hawthorn Training Sunshine Coast 13.12.12

Took some video of the lads doing some marking drills (bit far away). Coaches/ players bombed it up to forwards and backs, one player had to take the grab above his head.(no chest marks allowed) Noticed Woody involved, which may mean something. Spang takes a ripper, Lance, Rough , Ossie and Lake...

Didn't run much yesterday, was a bit sore. Smith winning 1km TT. Hill and Killer close behind Sat session. Yesterday Killer nearly got Smith in the 1kmTT. Coaches yelled out, Smith put on after burners....good night, easy victory. Killer very fit though. Hill sat out TT yesterday.

Burger very light duties with Shiels and Hodge. Burger running laps ok but had his left knee bandaged. (Wasn't limping at all) All 3 will need to step it up if they are going to play Rd1. Doubt we'll see them early in the Pre Season

    Hawthorn Training Sunshine Coast 13.12.12

Ceglar to me has a lot more developing to do. Could be a good player but I'm not confident from what I saw. Lowden by a mile atm. Happy to be proven wrong though.
  16. Hawker08

    Hawthorn Training Sunshine Coast 13.12.12

Hill is a flying machine on the track. Smith winning 1 km TT easily. Hill and Killer coming in second/third, although Hill sat out most of the running stuff yesterday and told the lads he couldn't kick. He wasn't hobbling, so no big deal there. Bruest has a good tank as is definitely bigger.
  17. Hawker08

    Hawthorn Training Sunshine Coast 13.12.12

Birch has a real presence on the track as does Gibbo. Birch looking great (solid) while Suckling seems slimmer for mine. No real defined match practice to indicate they'll be going to a wing.
  18. Hawker08

    Hawthorn Training Sunshine Coast 13.12.12

No specific ruck training, they just had standard match practice (two games at once across the field) They'd throw the ball up and the two rucks would duke it out. Once a goal was scored they'd send the ball back to the middle. Lowden and Max most dominant. Hale and Rough weren't involved in...

    Hawthorn Training Sunshine Coast 13.12.12

Lake is the missing piece of the jigsaw. I can see Shoe growing a leg with the big fella on board. Wood, Hill and Irish are a lock for preseason stuff. They'll play a role this year. Wood seems to have trimmed down but still has the tree trunk legs. Hill is much bigger, I'd be checking the odds...

    Hawthorn Training Sunshine Coast 13.12.12

His skills were solid and held up in match simulation. Snapped a couple of nice goals. He runs to the right spots and appears suited to a running half back role. Killer's fitness was second only to Smith. Bring on the pre season cup so he can show his stuff.
  21. Hawker08

    Hawthorn Training Sunshine Coast 13.12.12

On the track, Grimley kills them for fitness. Skill wise Lowden looks the goods and is clearly tallest of the 3. Ceglar doesn't excite me at all, insurance only. Grimley looks more suited to key defence, where Lowden looked far more capable in ruck drills. They'll all play 2nd and 3rd fiddle to...

    Hawthorn Training Sunshine Coast 13.12.12

Added some pics of last session. www.sunnycoast.shutterfly.com Killkenny flying Smith best of the runners and has bulked up. Woodward looking ready. Doing all drills Hill much bigger. Pulled up sore today, no big deal Spang has a big tank as does Grimmers Shiels being nursed as is Hodge. Lake...

    Hawthorn Training Sunshine Coast 13.12.12

If Simpkin plays we are in deep trouble. Insurance only for mine. Killer and Hill far more versatile and will get chances as outside mids/flankers.

Opinion Which young player are you looking forward to seeing making their debut in 2013?

From what I've seen of the training so far Kaiden will be a work in progress. You can clearly see he needs to bulk up a lot, lacks the fitness and skill of the current players. The recruiting staff have seen a lot more and obviously think he can develop. O'Brien looks very good as does Anderson...

Opinion Which young player are you looking forward to seeing making their debut in 2013?

"Killer" Killkenny for mine. He looks ready to go. Strong, good tank and skills. Think he's a lock for preseason stuff. He's well ahead of Anderson who will be nursed through 2013, as will O'Brien.

www.sunnycoast.shutterfly.com Photos of Dec 15 session added. Check out Gibbo's mohawk. Highlights: Smith running the house down Hill looking like stepping up Killkenny/Irish/Killer continues to look the goods. Impressed today in game play. Grimley can run, now just needs to find...

Ellis quite solid through shoulders but still very skinny. Hill is the one for mine who has filled out nicely. I'll post some more photos soon, so you can do some comparisons.

    Hawthorn Training Sunshine Coast 13.12.12

Spangher's got the long hair. Was impressive in the running drills and is quite tall. International boys there. NZ boys were way of it for mine but are very young and will be groomed for the future. Killkenny was the absolute standout for mine....running ability , skill , size. Looking forward...

    Hawthorn Training Sunshine Coast 13.12.12

From what I saw Anderson is a work in progress. Don't need to rush him and may well be a keeper. Killkenny was the one for mine, fit, strong and skilful. Can't see him on the rookie list for too long. Geez Smith was flying on the track, along with Hill and Spang. Hallahan just seems like the...
