If the Gabba gets an Olympic upgrade then the SCG will be the smallest regular test venue on the mainland. It will be increasingly difficult to justify it getting preferential treatment for big tournaments and in the test calendar.
Home game attendances are where we take in the money and those went up by a bit over 1%, with pre booked tickets in areas like the AFL Members increasing substantially. This would all account for a good part of the revenue increase.
Would it shock you if I said the only other time in recent memory we haven't doubled up against them was 2016, the year they had their entire team suspended and were the competition easybeats?
As always the AFL can change things without any notice but they already tweaked the rule to take into account Gather Round and according to their guidelines for the 2023 fixture it's a maximum of 2 top 6 teams for us next year.
I assume with the vast amount of time between the games it's not an actual double header with the ability to see both games. Because there will be no tickets available if that's the case.
Looks like we have 4 of our 6 travel games by Round 9.
Get ready for the bleating by other teams' supporters.*
* Applies to any Collingwood fixture news
No one has a bye in Round 1 as the AFL want it to be a full round.
The exact rule for sides that finish in the middle 6 like we did is:
2 or 3 against other sides in the middle 6 (Bulldogs, Carlton, Freo, Essendon, St Kilda)
1 or 2 against sides in the top 6 (Brisbane, Sydney, Port, Geelong...
Yep, the answer as always is to have Collingwood play all its home games at the MCG. That means we only need 3 away games to get to our contracted 14 at the G (which we would normally get even if the fixture was random) and frees up another 2 games to be played at Kardinia Park or Docklands or...
I love the new fixture time of year, when fans retroactively decide what constitutes an advantage by looking at whatever Collingwood get.
We’ve already had someone complaining that Collingwood has been given the marquee fixture of GWS on a Sunday. But I’m confident this take will be beaten in...
If we’re playing in Opening Round odds are that it’s Sydney.
It won’t be Brisbane because of the Easter Thursday game, it probably won’t be Gold Coast because they like their home game against us to be in the July holidays and we played GWS last year.
Yes, it was done alphabetically for each season and it carried on all the way through our golden era. Gordon Coventry for example wore 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 & 10 in different seasons.
If anyone's too worried about #9 not being in flags we did have a player wearing it in 6 of the 8 flags prior to...
Perhaps people don't remember #9 as much because a Pies player hasn't worn it in a winning GF since 1953. It's one of only 2 numbers lower than 36 to have only been in one of our flags going back to 1953, the other being #11.
Every number less than 40 has been part of at least one of those...
Remember that Collingwood poster from last week who was adamant that the mooted deal for Houston meant we were in fact giving up 2 first round picks plus Noble & Richards and who could not be convinced otherwise no matter how many people tried to explain that we never had all those assets at the...
Depending on who you believe, Port ended up with Pick 50 in the new deal which they didn't before. Tom Morris insists it was in the original deal as well.
It's possible they got some salary cap relief from GC for Luko.
Honestly good advice not to piss them off. They can threaten to advise all their players not to sign extensions or not to contemplate joining the club or to demand an extra $100k. The damage this can cause is catastrophic.
What happened to the GC poster claiming Collingwood had to sweeten the deal for this to go ahead?
Probably busy drowning his sorrows at losing the coveted pick 50 that Port fought so valiantly for.
Call me a wowser if you like, but I really don't think calling someone a pedophile is a particularly good thing to do on a public forum and should be removed, even if the comment is in jest.
