Well more importantly, who's gonna bail on us?
I'm uneasy about Gaff. Great kid but I get the same sense from him as I always did from Judd - ie. happy to play for WC for a little while and grateful for the opportunity, but never intending to spend 12 years in Perth.
There were rumours linking...
Not sure if this has been posted previously but here's an article on Hill after he won his Rising Star nomination:
http://www.afl.com.au/tabid/208/default.aspx?newsid=57149
Sounds like a good kid - seemed, even then, well aware of his faults and driven to work on them.
Not too keen on...
You can treat this as biased but this is my opinion on Ebert.
He's extremely strong overhead (and tall for a mid), courageous and versatile. These traits will hold him in good stead over the long-term. His kicking has improved this year (and has a lovely set shot action) and he's had a couple...
Yeah there was an article a few weeks back basically making the point that whoever comes 5th (so Carlton) will be the most unlucky team to miss out on the top 4 in history.
In years gone by, a team with the W-L record of Carlton would normally finish top 2.
The top 2 this year is also pretty...
Great call throwing Lycett in, both in the short term and the long term, given the circumstances.
Kennedy AND Naitanui out makes Lycett the obvious choice because he can play both roles. Plant him in the goal-square for most of the match and make him the bail-out long-kicking option that is...
Schofield to Steve Johnson from a purely defensive point of view. He's been awesome lately and will dominate him one-out with his height.
If you want to get under his skin though (is this is actually a good idea with Stevie J?), Adam Selwood is a perfect match up.
Yeah he had a limited preseason so he's been building fitness and form in the WAFL. Definitely among our best and most consistent performers there, especially over the last few weeks.
Spots are obviously much harder to come by this year which makes things hard, but I think at some point he'd...
#1 at the club for kicks
#1 for uncontested possessions
#2 for total disposals
#3 for handballs
#4 for marks
#5 for inside 50s
70% disposal efficiency
Shows how hard this guy is running to link up and always create an option for us - and using the ball well more often than not as well...
Agreed, but was even more WTF-worthy was an excerpt from the match report itself.
In the process of heaping praise on Luke Shuey, Ray Wilson stated the words, " he's not quick but..."
I literally did think 'wtf' the moment I read this.
Yeah Ebert is the only one I would drop after yesterday.
He's alternating a bit between half-forward and midfield, so the most like-for-like replacement I can see is either Andrew Strijk or Koby Stevens. Both would deserve the call-up.
Watch one of our games from the last half of last year. The tackling in our forward half, and the zone set-ups for opposition kick-ins were definitely there. Now they're just executing it better, and our offensive play has improved 200%.
Back to Woosha, I was one of the few who always...
I'm the first to admit I've been a lazy player sponsor this year, but I've simply got to give my boy a mention this week.
Congratulations JK: a career-best haul of 10.3 - just the fourth Eagle to ever reach double figures. 20 kicks, 1 handball, 15 marks (5 contested), 5 inside-50's and 4...
I think we all know the main positives - there was so bloody many! So here are some less mainstream positives that actually stuck out to me during the game:
- Schofield's awareness - he was amazingly composed, even classy in traffic, especially in that first half
- McGinnity's hands - his...
I think we all know some of the players I'm referring to:
Nicoski, Lynch, Ebert, Mackenzie, Adam Selwood, Rosa and McGinnity. Embley at times would have fallen into that group as well.
All of them were fantastic tonight and all of them have played consistently well so far this season...
The big unknown is probably Sheppard. We're yet to see him in the midfield at AFL level and he won't be played there properly for another couple of years yet.
He doesn't appear to have a great deal of X-factor but he possesses pretty much everything an A-grade midfielder needs - skills...
It seems Tim Houlihan has been playing as a tagger-that-can-still-win-possessions for East Freo the last few weeks, and doing it quite well.
Last week he had 28 touches whilst "restricting the impact of his opponents" (WCE website).
What do you think of the move? Personally I like it and...
IMO all he needs is added strength - especially in his legs and through the core.
One big thing that makes Judd and Ablett look so good is that strength they have through the hips - Shuey naturally has that too.
It gives them the licence to be attacking and creative, because when they do...
Seriously can not believe anyone on here is happy to have Lynch in the team.
Yes, he got a bit of it last week, and allowed Cox to survive the game, but he is a massive liability... His football brain is equivalent to that of a caveman.
Everytime he gets the footy forward of centre, he...
Only reason I can see for McGinnity coming is to release Scooter into a more attacking role, which may include rotating through the forward line with Kerr, Shuey and Ebert.
Otherwise, I'm stumped. Don't even get me started on Lynch...
Bump.
Still early says but we've at the very least broken even on this deal. Weedon (pick 22) isn't far off a debut and looks a seriously good prospect. He alone might win us the trade (touchwood). Dalziell is purely depth but did look alright early in the preseason.
Staker found form for...
Agree with the common sentiment that we'll struggle without Lecca, at least initially, but it could definitely improve us long term.
You only have to look at the Saints and Riewoldt last year.. from memory they were terrible the first week or two he was out, and then all of a sudden went on a...
The exciting thing about his debut was that he's never been a linebreaker, any pre-draft analyses on him will confirm that. It's why so many preferred Polec despite Gaff being superior in many other aspects.
But he showed a definite aptitude for a bit of run and carry on Saturday, and...
Would love to ask Gaff whether that kick over Nicoski's lead (which Nico subsequently ran onto to kick the goal) was intended or not. Given our reputation for kicking you'd think it was just a miscue, but watching it I get the feeling he meant to do it, recognizing the space behind and knowing...
