Autopsy AFL 2024 Round 1 - Port v Eagles Sun March 17th 4pm AEDT (AO)

I took some positives out of the game, as there were significant portions of the game where we weren't completely outclassed. But then I remembered that we beat GWS last year and look where we ended up. 2 - 3 wins seems about right

    Jumper clash fails

At least 4or 5 occasions where teams handballed to the wrong player in WC vs Melbourne today. Simply inexcusable in a professional competition. As a spectator in the middle tier it was also hard to watch.

Opinion The Collingwood Versus Port Adelaide Jumper Debate continues...

The article and history were interesting and informative, but anything prior to the AFL is irrelevant. When Port entered, there was already a club with a black and white striped jumper, and they have a right to protect that brand. Wearing the prison bars on the odd special occasion is ok, but...

    Jumper clash fails

You should google the definition of "biased". Richmond fans have the yellow jumper etched in their memory and part of their history now - pretty sure they love it!

Analysis Positives - Season 2021 and looking ahead

I remember saying at the end of last year that we would be one year older and slower in 2021, so 9th is not a massive surprise. One thing you can't ignore though, is that we were absolutely gutted by injuries - there is no doubt in my mind that we were hit hardest of any club with injuries to...

Autopsy AFL 2021 Round 17 - Eagles v North Mon July 12th 7:40pm EST (Optus)

Definitely slow - just lack any drive out of the midfield. Naitanui is the only one able to impose himself at stoppages. I though Yeo was the answer to this problem, but just not there yet, and Shuey still struggling. Other factors - game plan that struggles in the wet, dew or on small...

Can an independent commission investigate the AFL for blatant cheating?

Didn't really think this was a free when I watched it - what I did think was West Coast had a 3 on 1 and should have won possession! There was a worse non-call with about 7 minutes to go in the 3rd quarter where Bailey Smith was tackled by Cripps in the West Coast forward pocket - he had prior...

    West Coast Eagles 2021

On paper we should have been top 2 this year and a genuine flag threat, but we ended up a long way off. In 2021 will be older, slower and not sure how much more Kennedy has to give. Hope I'm wrong.

If 7 straight games at the MCG leading into finals is an advantage....

Yes, thanks for pointing out the relative effect of an obviously unbalanced travel burden on two clubs.

You're right - it will be back to normal where Richmond get the gifted run

Coach Is Hardwick now the second best coach in the league behind Clarkson?

Very hard for me to pick the better out of Clarkson and Hardwick. Clarkson was more the modern day innovator, and has had more influence on the game, but Hardwick has had less to work with. Have to say, did not see it coming with Hardwick - seemed to be a nice friendly guy, plodding along -...

Coach Is Hardwick now the second best coach in the league behind Clarkson?

Adelaide flogged Richmond by 12+ goals at Adelaide oval in 2017. Richmond returned the favour at their home ground in the Grand Final..

Coach Is Hardwick now the second best coach in the league behind Clarkson?

If those games are played at Subiaco and Adelaide Oval etc? Absolutely they win them, its called home ground advantage.....

If 7 straight games at the MCG leading into finals is an advantage....

Agree that the best team won, and overcame bona-fide advantage enjoyed by Brisbane and Port Adelaide Do not agree that extended duration "on the road" was a particular disadvantage - everyone (save Brisbane & PA) had to endure roughly equivalent Also do not agree that it is equivalent of any...

If 7 straight games at the MCG leading into finals is an advantage....

I was impressed by Richmond's win, but not for the reasons you put forward. Had to win a Grand Final on a ground that was not your home deck - oh the hardship!

If 7 straight games at the MCG leading into finals is an advantage....

So what are you saying? That having to to pack and travel every 2nd week is a big deal, or " The point is that the Weagles fan's eternal whinge about having to travel isn't nearly as big a deal as they make it out to be. "

Is the MCG a big advantage on Grand Final Day for Victorians against Interstate Sides? /Are Interstaters advantaged during the home and away season?

I'm ok with all that - no concerns about clubs enjoying genuine home field advantage - my beef is the inequities in travel. Not sure your logic completely holds up - West Coast played the MCG well in 2018 - undefeated as I recall, so playing Hawthorn at the G may not have been a loss. But we...

Is the MCG a big advantage on Grand Final Day for Victorians against Interstate Sides? /Are Interstaters advantaged during the home and away season?

Well it sounds like we have a win win here! WA clubs no longer go to Tassie, and instead play the Hawks and NM at the MCG and Marvel respectively. And we only play Collingwood and other MCG tenants the MCG, not Marvel or TIO.

Is the MCG a big advantage on Grand Final Day for Victorians against Interstate Sides? /Are Interstaters advantaged during the home and away season?

Yes I did call Collingwood hosting a Marvel tenant at Marvel neutral, but I also called Collingwood hosting a Marvel tenant at the MCG neutral. And in 2019 Collingwood played "away" games at Marvel twice, compared to 6 games at the MCG against Marvel tenants - so to the extent there is any...

Is the MCG a big advantage on Grand Final Day for Victorians against Interstate Sides? /Are Interstaters advantaged during the home and away season?

Is that it? Would much rather play Melbourne at the MCG thankyou very much - that is their silly choice

Is the MCG a big advantage on Grand Final Day for Victorians against Interstate Sides? /Are Interstaters advantaged during the home and away season?

Yes - fair enough with Richmond - although, their winning % in Qld (61%) makes their short hall performance look better when averaged. As for short haul not being (less of) a problem for Grand finals the G for non WA teams, you are still ignoring the genuine home ground advantage that MCG...

Is the MCG a big advantage on Grand Final Day for Victorians against Interstate Sides? /Are Interstaters advantaged during the home and away season?

Here's how I calculated it. Freo, for example in Victoria 42 - 0 - 111 for a winning % = 29% In WA 179 - 0 - 135, winning % = 57% In SA 28%, NSW 18% and Qld 42% So the difference for Freo between home and away is 57% subtract the average of all away games (29%) = 28% (must have had rounding...

Is the MCG a big advantage on Grand Final Day for Victorians against Interstate Sides? /Are Interstaters advantaged during the home and away season?

The difference in winning % between playing in home state vs a game that requires long haul travel (coast to coast) is 30% for West Coast, 26% for Freo, 19% for Collingwood and 10% for Richmond. When Collingwood and Richmond travel to SA, NSW and Qld, there is negligible difference in winning %...

Is the MCG a big advantage on Grand Final Day for Victorians against Interstate Sides? /Are Interstaters advantaged during the home and away season?

I'm not crying either mate, just making a reasonable suggestion that the league could and should do more to balance the travel burden. Yes, we do better than others, and if you read my original post you will see I acknowledged that.

Is the MCG a big advantage on Grand Final Day for Victorians against Interstate Sides? /Are Interstaters advantaged during the home and away season?

Can you point to where the data I presented was incorrect? Perhaps you could look at the record of Victorian clubs when they travel interstate and see how much of a disadvantage that is for them? And hence, what an advantage it is to stay home? The spread between a club's home record and...

Toast EF: Collingwood by a point.

Well done Pies - under the circumstances a truly incredible win. Having traveled to Melbourne for the 2018 GF I was impressed with the professionalism of your club and the interactions I had with supporters. The rivalry we have had in recent times, and both being on the losing end of hard...

Is the MCG a big advantage on Grand Final Day for Victorians against Interstate Sides? /Are Interstaters advantaged during the home and away season?

Mostly accurate but you lose me on the "dominance" of West Coast and that West Coast (or at least Al) are seeking "further advantage", implying of course that we already have an advantage. Due to the circumstances of geography and the number of teams in Melbourne, I think it is impossible to...
