I’m just being hopeful because I put a bet on it.
Wilson, Wardlaw and possibly McKercher all ahead of him - although the race is definitely not over now.
*and Darcy was eligible too.
Yeh he’s dropped off a bit since I put my bet on - but Reid and Darcy were way ahead of the pack.
It’s open from here depending on form for the second half of the year.
They’ve suspended the betting market.
Darcy and Reid both likely suspended after this round..
Darcy Wilson maybe favourite for the RS but brings Windsor back into contention if he can have a few more strong games in the back half of the year.
Freo like to chip it around in the back half and use control - they don’t like it if you press up on them.
So yeh hopefully Turner pushes towards Pearce and/or Ryan when they have the ball and our small forwards create a bit of chaos ball.
If we can do that, our only problem will be scoring...
Short of sending him to Casey for a month, I was thinking it might not hurt to throw him into the ruck for 5 minutes a quarter just to get him into some games and having to throw his body around.
Might not actually be the worst thing.
What if nobody would do that deal?
Also, our strategy over the past 5+ years seems to be focused on bringing everything possible forward, and worrying about next year in 12 months time - it’s worked pretty well to be fair.
Anyway, not sure how you can determine that they were pissed away just yet?
Wonder if they prioritised a bit of physicality.. Jefferson can hopefully watch this new kid standing next to him and realise that he needs to harden the **** up.
No disrespect taken MarcMaverick!
And it appears you were correct.
My thoughts were that we’ve lost some midfield depth and mids are easier to pluck out of the lower leagues. Particularly if we could find one with a bit of run/metres gained and score board impact who might play seniors...
Was gonna mention that we were also trying to package up the best offer for Reid that we could.
Anyway, we ended up with Tholstrup and I’m not holding any big concerns about him at this point. Let’s see where he’s at in another year or even 2 years from now.
That move was probably more about knowing that we wouldn’t use our second rounders so there was no point having them.
We possibly thought Windsor could be available with the pick at that time as well - no way we made that move because Tholstrup was the specific target.
I reckon we’ll find that this draft was very, very strong in the top 10 or so then falls away a bit.
We did try to move this pick on to get higher up the board.
I dont think Tholstrup was selected as a match winner. I’m envisaging more of an ANB type role player - which will be fine with me.
Taylor was also helped by the club’s strategy of trading out everything to get as high up the board as possible with the first pick, which other clubs have now caught onto.
Got a bit lucky with Petracca getting past the Saints, but Oliver, Jackson, Pickett and Fritsch are probably the standouts followed by Rivers, McVee and Bowey.
Jury still out on Jefferson unfortunately, but there aren’t exactly a whole heap of guns that went after that pick so you can’t blame...
