Great news. The footy department must obviously like what they see in his development.
Does this also indicate Hawks may be agreeable to a suitable trade for Reeves? Or am I seeing something that is not there .
Low to mid second rounder minimum please.
IF Frosty was to leave for better terms, I very much doubt we would deal on him until after the Barrass deal was finalised. It would be suicidal to lose Frost then not complete the Barrass deal.
I really can't see Frosty wanting out, although I get the added security of a longer contract.
I can't see Butler in our top 22 next year nor on our list in 2026. Perhaps he even goes this year even though he is contracted. He might find an alternate suitor.
Unfortunately, he has not stepped up to be an AFL standard player. His injury really came at a bad time for him.
how he attacks the pre-season will be defining IMO. Does he have the manic desire to make it?
He really needs to improve his defensive side and stamina. If he can, he will be a weapon with his size and kicking range.
Fingers well and truly crossed for the lad.
id argue both Finn and Harry M had better semi-finals than Perryman did. Different game I know, but outsiders are not always better than what we already have...
agree we will get it done. But if WC are unreasonable. we should not be bent over just to do so. We don't need to go back too far to see the outcome of that scenario - vis Omeara and Wingard. Got bent over on both of those deals and it cost us badly down the track.
They can keep him then. I have moved from needing a key back to more needing a key forward and classy mid.
Barrass is OK for the right price, but not overs. Remember, reportedly, we are offering a 4 + 1 contact for him which is highly risky.
We really have only been monstered once this year...
Look, I kind of agree with you maxi, however, neither are going to be better come finals time 2025. They may be liabilities in a final. If the sub rule is changed and they allow 23 on the bench, it definitely helps us in this regard.
They are both premiership legends to be respected and agree...
Morrison should get and extension. Hope he stays. Serong is contracted and can't see us letting him go.
I will upset a few here, but after last night my views have changed a bit.
I am not sure Gunstan and Breust offer a lot outside of leadership now. Both of them playing does restrict how we...
Fin really stood up tonight. He is not the most blessed in terms of skill level, but more than makes up for it in endeavour.
He covered 16.9 klms last night, 1.4 klms more than anyone else. He is also the leading player for average speed @ 9.2 klms. (only behind Lorenze who played a qtr). That...
great game by Harry. Tried his guts out and should be rewarded with an extension. Whether it is a good enough contract to counter offers from others which will surely come, time will tell.
He seems a very loyal Hawk person, so it would need to be a good offer (probably length) to pry him away...
How many clubs are still reliant on the AFL to keep them afloat and how long will it be before a club overextends and gets into serious financial trouble?
The AFL will need to be strategising about what they would do in a serious financial situation. They may not wish OR be able to bail the...
I think everyone has a similar top 4 to 6 players who may not be at Hawks next year.
I also see a lot of people saying Serong should look for opportunities elsewhere as he is too good for VFL.
Serong is only 21 and has several players ahead of him that are heading towards 30 yrs old +. Just...
agree. A few of our key defenders are at the latter stages of their careers. Serong is exactly the right age to step into their shoes over the next few years. He is also the right age for our list profile over the next 10 years.
If we sell him now for a potential late 2nd (at best), we will be...
I feel for DGB and really wanted him to make it at Hawks.
Given we have secured Barrass and Battle AND Serong is looking a very good prospect, there is no way we can keep DGB on the list.
I suspect he will go as well as Philips. We add Battle, Barrass, Serong will step up and McCabe developing...
I probably agree, but CJ hasn't really been fit or in form all year. Apart from a couple of goals he has not set the world on fire when in the AFL side. Sam must reward performance IMO. That means most likely Fin stays, but then Ward or Serong next in line.
If we were to just offload fringe players, it is possible. I easily see 5 or more that could go (not necessarily want them to)
Stephens, Wingard, Phillips, DGB, O'Sullivan, Morrison (DFA for opportunities) perhaps Bennetts (although cat b) & Tucker, Butler as a trade (although is contracted)...
seron
Serong is just about ready now. Will be prime next year. Has been able to develop nicely at BBH without being rushed under unnecessary pressure.
I am all in on Battle, not too sure on Barrass, although would be very handy at the right price and assuming he can pay the majority of games...
doesn't seem to be playing with the same manic dash or excitement since the pies game. Suggests to me he is carrying a niggle and is just not 100%. He does not seem to be covering the same amount of ground. Do his klms per game reflect anything?
Even though he is still contributing, I hope he...
My pessimistic take is this:
my nerves are shot through elevated expectations. Another scenario is Hawks lose to clarko, carlton and freo both win and we are done. We have been up for such a long time, now have several players with soreness, so not all done and dusted yet.
AND, we play first...
not me.
I think Serong will be a very good regular AFL defender. I also believe Ward will make it as much better than average. I'd love Morrison to stay but happy for him if he gets a very good offer elsewhere.
Not too worried about Reeves, but we will need a solid ruck back up plan should...
if Gunston needs a rest (i don't think he does), id bring in Serong who is much deserving of a game.
Serong gives so much flexibility as it allows Sicily or Hardwick to go forward or even Serong himself. Also, all can be thrown back if needed. Rotation flexibility based on matchups.
My fears...
What a great 'mature' game from Weddle this week. He has also shown to be a very quick learner.
He had a few bad defensive moments against GWS last week, particularly being out marked from behind a couple of times.
Notice the highlights from yesterday, he was in similar situations and strongly...
he is an absolute Hawthorn champion.
I am so glad he decided to come home and even more excited to see what he is doing on the development front. Ifs and maybes, but I am strong in my belief that lions would have won the grannie last year had gunners been picked. Isn't that why they got...
yes, it looked like that and I was really hoping for 100 points,
But, even though they were decimated with injury, we had run very hard all day and were a little fatigued as well.
Hopefully no injuries and we fire up again next week.
