I’m one of those who truly didn’t appreciate impacts of free agency etc but probably correct. Those picks are getting ugly compared to where they started.
Imagine if Collingwood finished top 4.
I thought you were unlikely to draft beyond 30 due to picks coming in from GC as well?
Out of contract though. Eagles will be very reluctant to trade that pick.
Like I said WC probably need to give more like an F2 and Richmond F3 coming back or they get 24 and we get 20 instead but to be honest if we could get Bolton and keep a pick in the top 15 and 1 in the top 25 I would be pretty happy.
Wash my eyes out I know but what about:
Freo In: Bolton, 15 and 24
Out: 10 11 18 and 30
Rich In: 10 11 18
Out: Bolton Baker 24 33
Bris In: 30 and 33
Out: 20
WCE In: Baker 20
Out: 15
Richmond will argue that their late picks alone can get 20 from Brisbane...
It really is a very solid looking draft, normally by pick 30 the numbers really start to fall away but not this bunch. I think there will be 10 players go in the actual top 30 not in that list.
I think people are over thinking it with Jagga Smith, the trap of being too good for too long so...
Certainly a very GWS thing to do. Maybe Saints are interested in splitting one of their top 10 picks in which case GWS might be inclined to send 15 and 16 to them.
In 2020 GC drafted 1 player Elijah Hollands and elevated 3 rookies
In 2021 Carlton just took Jesse Motlop and elevated Josh Honey and Matt Kennedy from rookie list.
If Geelong take on that contract in whole then F2 is completely fine. On the flipside Melbourne in no shape or form should de-risk this contract by taking on any salary.
I enjoy the back and forth and understanding what perceived value looks like, fills the gaps waiting for something real. I note the equivalent thread in 2013 lasted 64 pages :), more fun making grand finals obviously. I asked what people would do if North come knocking and I think they will...
What is more than 9? If it is adding 10 then yep 21 coming back at least. I don't think we get anything back with adding 16 maybe 41 or F3 if Richmond are feeling generous. He is contracted.
I feel we need to apply a 2019 draft lens to this draft. Not too many misses in that first 20 picks.
Here are the picks to 19, Warner, Coleman and Rivers picked after that:
1
Matt Rowell
Gold Coast
Oakleigh Chargers
2
Noah Anderson
Gold Coast
Oakleigh Chargers
3
Luke Jackson
Melbourne...
I don’t think Bolton would risk his financial security.
Pick 9 only Freo wins, doubt Richmond do it
Pick 9 and 16 slightly favours Richmond on historical trade value
Pick 9 and 10 Freo loses
I don't think people are saying trade into next year just for Warner. You generally get a premium to offset risk of unknown standing of the future pick.
If that future pick improves our hand for a potential Warner trade how can that be bad. All depends on how you value this year's draft vs next...
Apparently keen to get an extra pick in this draft, get a kid 1 year earlier in a strong draft, possible chance to get to 8 wins next year, has to happen sometime. GC pick reserved for Richmond. Only other realistic pick is Saints if they get the high pick for Battle.
If we did have to give the...
2017 Draft
10
Lochie O'Brien
11
Aiden Bonar
12
Darcy Fogarty
13
Jarrod Brander
14
Matthew Ling
15
Zac Bailey
16
Ed Richards
17
Jack Higgins
18
Brandon Starcevich
I know where I would like my team to be picking.
So Freo can add a top 50 player in the comp and grab two high end kids in a supposed super draft and keep picks in next year's draft.
I'd like to see that.
