He’s already previously been employed by the club

Under the Ross regime
And he left.

His knowledge and analysis from Wed night 6PR radio segments and GF call hints that he could have been extremely useful working with Freo.

It was a genuine question. I was wondering why he wasn't reemployed when he came back to Perth from Brisbane a year ago.

I like the idea of getting Simpson as an assistant. Simmo and Jeremy McGovern are the feature guests at an event at the Bunbury Golf Club this coming Saturday. Same place I watched the Grand Final yesterday. Saw the promos for it. Thought it weird that a current player and sacked coach would still be doing a paid gig together. Guess it was booked before he got sacked. Tickets start at $65ea. $1000 gets you a table with a platter of food and 3 jugs of beer. 😮

People actually pay for that shite? What for?

David Teague is leaving Richmond, can't find anything about him having something else lined up.

Simpson and Teague taking over from Boyd and Murphy is best case scenario, imo.

Am I right in saying Bob Murphy's role wasn't an assistant coach one? I thought he was some sort of player support guy/spiritual leader. If I'm right, shoving an assistant coach into the role could be a mistake. The role needs quite specific skills.

Kinda sorta?

Think he ended up as specialist skills coach and AFLW head?

Yeah Bob spent a fair bit of time with the women, then came back into the men's program but they sort of created a role around him rather than he took an existing role. If you don't have an equivalent character wanting to come in, I don't see the need to keep the role. Really just need to replace Boyd.

What’s Luke Webster’s status at West Coast?

He’s been around a while mostly away from Freo. Not sure if he’s all that good but seems to have the right level of experience for the line coach we’d need and has worked with both JL and Graham in the past.

They moved him to skills coach for the mens team last season.

We want people who have been to the pinnacle, either as players or as part of successful coaching groups.

Ex-players can do their apprenticeship elsewhere

I agree but some would be against even bringing in those that did their apprenticeship elsewhere.

We’re not in Melbourne so it’s harder to recruit assistants. Guys that played for our club would probably be more likely to be open to it. There’s Freo ex-players coaching at other clubs that have had no involvement with Freo for 8-15 years but that won’t be good enough for some people.

More than happy to bring our ex-players back if well qualified. Mundy hasn’t coached in any capacity at AFL level. He starts at the bottom whether that’s with us or someone else - I don’t believe we’re looking for someone at the bottom though.
